Supercharger will be sure be easier to mount to the motor but a little more complex to build, and a turbo would be a lil more difficult to mount but a lil more easier to build.

The centrifugal supercharger was one of my favorites projects and helped me understand many things, but it didn't work.My plan is to make a positive displacement supercharger. I'll have a higher percentage of success.
@Derpynewb3 жыл бұрын
@@johnnyq90 this is just my opinion but I think you should test the fuel system first with compressed air. What I mean by this means is instead of using a turbo, use an air compressor for now to test that your fuel system can even utilise boost in the first place.
@MrAndrius123 жыл бұрын
@@johnnyq90 I assume you have read our input on the supercharger? Honestly I feel like that is a good decision, as centrifugal supercharger boost goes up with RPM so it's not optimal, not to mention the super high rpm required, while with a roots or twin screw it's instantaneous. Though if you ever want to re-visit the centrifugal supercharger and you believe you can make it work reliably with super high rpm, that would be epic.
@jamescampbell42053 жыл бұрын
@@MrAndrius12 however, if my memory serves right, the rotary is going on an aircraft, where high rpm is constant. Id vote turbo or even stick with belt driven centrifugal for that application.

Flat Head 4 stroke engines of this size are perfect for small applications and develop more power per cubic centimeter than a traditional overhead valve design. It can also handle more RPM. The oiling system is its only drawback because it limits continuous operation and ultra high rpm. I remember when several go kart hot rodders in the 1980s modified 400 to 500 cc flathead models solving this problem by using a roller bearing using a custom made 2 piece crankshaft for the traditional babbit connecting rod bearing (most flathead designs today don't even use a bearing because they are low rpm engines) that eliminated the need for adding 2 stroke oil to the fuel while having the added advantage of keeping the oil in the crankcase below maximum temperature at high rpm. These engines could run for as long as fuel was available. Oil "consumption" was astonishingly low at .65 ml per hour. I wonder if a roller bearing could be used in one of these.

Id bet the oil in the fuel makes its way past the piston somehow to lube the bottom end
@andrewsnow73863 жыл бұрын
My guess would be that the crankcase is part of the intake path -- it's the intake manifold if you will. That is, after going through the carburetor, the air goes into the crankcase, and then to the intake valve. But.this is just a guess.
@lorenzov91363 жыл бұрын
It most likely has a single piston ring. The oil leaks past the ring gap into the crankcase. Excess oil is drained to the little container. That's atleast how it works with nitro 4 stroke engines. I assume it's the same here. Bet it's a gas engine because they can't get the compression high enough (yet), it been a side valve and with the glass head.

You need to advance your timing by just a little so the spark comes a split second before intake and that sucker will take off. move the electrodes back about an 8th of an inch and see if that doesn't increase RPM
@alien2000496553 жыл бұрын
I don't know that I like the Nylon insulator on the spark Electrode, looking through the head window, you can clearly see it beginning to melt after just a few seconds of operation. Which means that the nylon will melt to the point where the spark electrode will be blown out of the head by either the compression stroke or the combustion stroke. which means this engine won't run for very long, if you...let's say: decide to power an RC model with it for example. I hope it is possible to get a ceramic insulated spark electrode for long term operation. But Other than the spark insulator issues I see, this engine is still pretty cool. wouldn't mind picking one up.
