Wow. As a professional mechanical engineer I am absolutely impressed with how well put together the build is, and the great attention to detail. I thought my homebuilt 6s car was fast, but your car is a ROCKET. To sort out your driveshaft issue, and FEA software would help, and a CFD software would definitely help sort your high speed lift problem.

@@oldbatwit5102 Interesting. I can be more specific if you like. I'm very familiar with mini-mils and lathes, and their capabilities. Probably spent more than 100h using mine, and accomplished many things with them lesser hobbyists claim to be not possible. Specifically cutting materials such as stainless and titanium, and hitting my targets dimensions within 0.02mm consistently. I think I got that part down. What specifically do I think it would help with for this project? Making stronger axles specifically. How I hear you ask? Put simply, use strong materials such as titanium or tool-steel to make them, and make them a larger dimension then the commercially available ones, along with larger cups to accept them. Why do I think he would like to have this ability? Obviously from the video he has spent a significant amount of time and money trying several different options, all of which failed without being able to extract the potential of the car, which I presume was the purpose of this project.

@@oldbatwit5102 Hero you say? More like wasted way to much of my life wading through "all" the information about the subject, reading mostly about how frustrated people and "know it alls" from industry bash these little machines. It is true that if you try to run them like industrial size machines, and use industrial size tools they don't work well. If however you use the tricks most machinists reserve for very difficult cuts, and get the tools that are designed for the small cuts these machines are capable of, you can get good results. Lots of reading and watching videos, and lots of trail and error to figure it out. If there is anything to learn here it's that if you put in enough effort, sometimes you get good results. :)

Your first big goal? THE SOUND BARRIER. First unmanned wheeled vehicle to go faster than sound. If you heed my idea then you will understand no manned wheeled vehicle will EVER GO FASTER THAN UNMANNED! Hey who knows? You may be trying to catch my cars and have the fastest rc on earth. Great video & sweet car - Its nice to see someone coming at it from an engineering point of view. I've been rebuilding several of my cars to make them bash-proof. I noticed you cut the carbon fiber dry - I've been using a Diamond Ring saw (typically used to cut glass), as it uses water (so no dust) and cuts through the carbon fiber panels like butter. You can cut curves, and with a split ring blade, you can even cut inside features (large hole cutouts)

just a mechanical suggestion, the drive shaft cups should be 90 degrees to each other. when they are both in line, the centrifugal force tries to throw the shaft out of alinement. This is how 1:1 car drive shafts are clocked.

28:21 The idea is that it's easier to heat up the wire by itself and get it tinned, which in turn makes soldering easier because it not only distributes heat better in the wire, but also helps with thermal contact. You don't have to do it, but it does help, especially if you're soldering near heat sensitive parts.

You are right, you can just tin a few seconds ahead of your actual solder, though my best success with this type of connector is to tin the wire, then hold the wire in the cup, heat the side of the cup opposite of that hole then insert my solder through the hole. This way the hottest part of my joint is at the bottom where a cold solder could crack and short leaving a nice solder on top.
