N.Ireland under Billy Bingham were obviously a decent side in early eighties, also with the famous 1-0 defeat of Spain on their own patch in 1982 World Cup.

true, what was not understood eeeez, how on earth they RRR not in the finals 1984 !! aaaaaa mean caaaaaaam on, let's realize this together, gatherin 11 points, best record vs the leaderchair DUETCH !!! yaaaao see, i came from where, if yaaaaaaao win two games vs a team, and both ended with same points, the direct game results should rule in !!! to me, NI wrrrrrrrrr qualified !!!

So unfortunate to not qualify Northern Ireland. Germany must have hated the sight of them. As a Scot I salute them for beating Germany twice in this group. Oh in 1983 I had my first teenage romance and heartbreak with a girl from Karlsruhe, Katherine Enneking. I wonder where she is now. I'd love to back in time to those days. Simpler and better times.

German haircuts all look like they're in various prog rock bands of that era....Blimey !!!! And everyone's shirt was tucked into their shorts... Great old footage.....great era for football.

I really enjoy watching these videos .. I only wish if every video included all matches in the group instead of only 6 or 8 matches for one specific team .. Maybe a separate video for Austria matches can be another option .. During these qualifications campaign Austria did very well in their first 5 matches as they won 4 and drew 1 and topped the group .. then during the fourth quarter of 1983 they lost their last 3 matches against west Germany , Turkey and northern Ireland and finished third in the group .. It was the end of the golden generation of Hanz Krankl , Walter Schachner , Herbert Prohaska , Heribert Weber , Ernst Baumeister and Bruno Pezzey ..

@@philfrank9226 If you think they're not a ( golden generation ) then you can say they're the best generation in Austrian football after WW2 It's a pity that they haven't reached the semi finals in world cup but they were able to perform and win matches and impress the crowd ..

True .. but that's one thing to know about football .. being the better team doesn't necessarily mean winning the match .. that's how Germany beat France twice in world cup semi finals in 1982 and 1986 .. And it's not only about Germany .. It's about international football in general .. it happened and it's still happening until this moment .. teams underperform but still manage to win matches and qualify and even reach the final match .. Argentina in World Cup 1990 .. Spain in Euro 1984 .. Belgium in world Cup 1986 ..

@@jafarthewizard5665 As always in any sports, being the better team doesn't automatically guarantee a victory. However, Germany could've gotten more credit hadn't they got by so many bs moments (Algeria scandal plotted with Austria, Schumacher evading a red after brutal Battiston foul).

Nah……that’s bullshit. They had world class players and were missing that idiot Schuster. Most countries have a bad qualifying now and again.Remember Italy did not qualify in 84 also and they were World Cup champions.

@@jafarthewizard5665 yep, Belgium sucked, they were lucky to be there instead of the Netherlands, and even managed to end in fourth position! Their game against USSR was a shame.

@@frankwells7520 Yes of course .. and Belgium performance in 1990 was way better than in 1986 .. I really enjoyed watching their matches against Uruguay and England .. but they were eliminated by England in round of 16 .. In brief : Poor performance = fourth place Good performance = only round of 16 Unfair ? Doesn't make any sense ? Yes .. But that's football ..
