So weird to see them play with all those cards that are worth big money today without sleeves! Urza block was so ridiculously powerful. Academy blue, Brokenjar, Tinker and Bargain in standard, Trix in extended: those were some crazy powerful decks. .

The more cards because money the worse the game became IMO... I don't mind cards being worth something.. But the amount these pieces of card board go for is just stupid and makes more sense to buy counterfeit cards... Double sleeved u can't even tell the difference. Proxies and counterfeits should be tournament legal... There's no reason they aren't. Or WoTC could easily just reprint everything that is worth alot so players can get the game pieces we need for tournaments.. There's no reason my 6 modern decks and my legacy decks cost more the a damn brand new car smh. Miss this game when others could afford it to play and have fun.

I would have them set to record on VHS and set my alarm for 1:50am sense they only showed Magic at around 2am. So I would watch and record it. I still have the VHS of Long vs ( I can't remember his name now but will change it when I do.) Long was playing Prosperous bloom And his opponent was playing Mono white. Long lost game one and the suddenly games 2 and 3 he somehow ALWAYS drew a Gloom right when needed it.... Because he lapped them and could just go get one as needed.

God, this was truly the last gasp of the "Wild West" Type 2 (what they used to call modern during this time), with gigantic banned/restricted lists cus of Urza's block just being beyond ridiculous. There were still something like what? 4? 5? Viable Combo decks: (Bargain, Time Spiral, Enchantress, technically/arguably Tinker), MONSTER fucking archetypes: Angry Hermit (which became angry blastoderm with no hermits), Sligh, draw go (because fucking MORPHLING)
@FictionExistence
@FictionExistence 3 жыл бұрын
Type 2 was the name for Standard, not Modern, but you're right otherwise. The internet was much different then, netdecking and access to information was much more limited. I think the late 90's, early 2000's era of Magic was, by far, the best era. These old videos got me feeling quite nostalgic.

I realize it's been 4 months since you asked but I'll answer anyway. With crumbling sanctuary in play they can pay 19 life when casting phyrexian processor to make a 19/19 creature every turn, which wins the game on three turns, assuming a 60 card deck.
@GerardoRitchey
@GerardoRitchey 11 жыл бұрын
against the super aggressive decks, it buys the tinker deck a few turns to stabalize the board. After that, you can just tinker it away for a threat to do damage.

And also leave themselves wide open to a cheap burn spell, the sanctuary is honestly one of the most commonly tinkered into cards against any aggro deck.also that 19/19 doesn't have trample and can easily be blocked by any chump. The tinker deck requires patience and time to set up the win. you can't over commit on the processor without something like crumbling sanctuary in play to keep you in the game if they ax your tokens or even lightning bolt to the face.

He's dead on board. Colossus can only be blocked by three or more creatures. Maher has to tap down all his lands to Tangle Wire, Finkel untaps his Colossus with the 2nd key he topdecked on his turn, blocks Masticore, swings back for lethal.

@Darkpawra 6 жыл бұрын
From what I can tell, his deck has a lot of effects that damage him. So you can use Crumbling to mill instead of hurt yourself, and you can also sacrifice the Crumbling to Tinker when you're ready to go in for the kill.
@barrywatson1040

Sanctuary was there initially as an answer to aggro, Tinker it into play when you are short on life to give you time to stabilize. Also worked well with Processor.

Because they are paying 19 life to make the 19/19. Its a 3 turn clock with sanctuary that also means they aren't dead to a random burn spell.
