For context we restored my grandfathers old 500 from 1970 for his 70th birthday, it was imported from Italy to the states and 14 years later it’s still in great condition

My first car...First love (My Grandpa bought her new in 1972) I was six years old but made Grandpa promise that he would have gifted me her when I was 18, and when the moment came he kept the promise. It's like to drive a go kart, so nimble in the city traffic and easy to find parking. The drive experience is so engaging because she doesn't has a synchronized gear shifter, so you have to pass through neutral between every gear and equalize the engine revolutions with a quick gas pump at the right moment (downshifting is even more difficult because passing through neutral you lose the braking effect of the engine so you have to brake and pump gas at the same time...) In Italy we call this mess "doing the doppietta" (the double shot) and you learn the ropes making the gear shifter make horrible scratching noises the first times then you develop the "ear" and you'l l never fail again. Disclaimer no kids beyond here: The incredible thing was at last was that being more than six feet tall I had some confortabile romance inside that little trap. Mine was "convertible" so you could increase the estate opening the roof hatch and the front seats reclined forward so sitting in the back you had leg room, I stop here...Ciao😬

A friend of mine once owned one of those. Given to him by his father when he turned 18. Was a light blue colour with white racing stripes. Amazing little thing. Could do a full u-turn on his narrow driveway. And it was pretty damn fast. Had a lot of fun driving around with him, though also a few hair-raising moments. Luckily he was a good driver. Glad it wasn't jacked up on steroids like the Fiat in this video though.
