@DutchBushcraftKnives
@DutchBushcraftKnives 7 жыл бұрын
they are budget knives made out of 1075 hardened to 50-55 HRC. I haven't tried one for good reason. 1075 @ 55 hrc is ok for a machete but for a knife and maybe even softer at 50 hrc is definitely a no go. they look pretty sweet but A mora will be a thousand times better in terms of steel performance. I don't know if all their knives are 1075 though. Haven;t done much research on them. They do have a nice parang.

Hey guys, maybe worth mentioning that, unlike the smaller Silky's, you can sharpen the Katanaboys (this is the 500, there is a 650 as well) with the optional Silky-file. I've professionally used both Katanaboys extensively in the field instead of a chainsaw and they are just unbeatable! And you get a free workout with it! Keep those vids coming, boys!

I don't cut trees wide enough to need a 19 inch saw blade. My big saw is Silky though. I have Silky BigBoy 360 Pro. It's 14 inch blade. I also have Silky F180 for my smaller saw to do smaller jobs or for hiking trails. It has 7 inch blade. They both cut really good. Alot better than the cheap ones I had before (both small).

It would be WAY faster if you used two hands with a little downwards pressure on the front steel part as you pull and tilt the saw up and down too. I know, I used mine a few days ago going through green pine of about 10" diameter. Not the funnest thing to do because of the way I had the wood resting, but darn effective!

Hey guys, it doesn't have anything to do with this video but, which grit do you use when you wanna change the bevel grind to convex on your 3v knives? 300-400? I want to buy 3 new stones, and I need 3 good stones to do almost everything, from regrind to polish. Good video btw... as always!

Hey Salival, We mostly start off with 400 grit. If I was to recommend a 3-set I would suggest Naniwa Chosera or Naniwa Professional 400, 1000 and 3000 and do a bit of stropping afterwards. thanks a lot! cheers!

I got my Silky 650 last week... and it's fine going through green wood as I topped off my sprawling Lilac tree... but put it nose to nose with smaller "toolbox" style handsaws and try to cut a 6 1/2 inch diameter hardwood log... and the Silky got its butt handed to it by a 20 inch blade / 8 teeth per inch Irwin "marathon" handsaw. It wasn't even close. I'll take the Irwin with me on camping outings every time... as it's lighter weight, easier to fit into backpack, not as dangerous, not as expensive in case it gets lost, broken, or stolen. I'm more interested in efficiency than the "looks badass" factor. I haven't done a comparison test between the Irwin and Silky on a green wood log... yet. So far, about the only advantage the Silky has is it's reach to higher limbs.

You should compare it to a brand new bacho or similiar bow saw instead. They range from €10-20. You'd be surprised how easily they pack with the right bag and how light they are. You might also be surprised at how fast they cut from using folders for so long. Its only a little more bulk but a ton of reliability and performance for your money. The strenght of a folder this big is that there is no theoretical limit to the dimensons of the wood you are cutting. But if you have enough wood to cut to justify this kind of investment you might want to concider other options and its kind of hard to beat a bow saw in that regard.

hehe so funny, you guys crack me up, great review. This saw is a crazy size, not for me as the intended use would be bushcraft where possible long hikes are needed and keeping weights down. That said my carry system and kit already often weighs around 25KG for anything above a three day wildcamp, so if i took this saw i would need to buy a pack horse too ;) . Again its all about intended use-be great if weight and size is not an issue for anyone.

this would be a great saw to keep in the back of your car. Especially when you live on a remote place where trees fall down over the road once in a while. Thanks a lot!

alright lads, I'm looking for a good bushcraft/ backpacking knife and only have room for one. in your opinion what is the best knife at the moment for less than $50 USD?
@DutchBushcraftKnives
@DutchBushcraftKnives 7 жыл бұрын
that's a pretty tough price range. I would say a Mora bushcraft force. It's a good step up from the companion in sturdiness and handle geometry. I love mine a lot!

Dutch Bushcraft Knives would you recommend the force over the robust?
@DutchBushcraftKnives
@DutchBushcraftKnives 7 жыл бұрын
Zesty Boyz I would. I find handle geometry very important. The force definitely is a step up from the cheaper models.

Well I do! Silky saws are unparalleled in their performance if you use them properly. They can be fragile though
