Drops log like a champ. Takes 20 minute coffee break proving why he's paid to cut logs and not teach math. Realizes after break family could have been moving log the whole time. #Classic Also, if I ever had any doubt about my chosen profession of sitting at a desk, this video took care of those issues. :D

If you ever get short on content, take your camera to that saw shop. It would be cool for us non-tree cutters to see the dudes make their improvements on the factory saws. Like take a stock saw and do the power tune and whatever else they do to make them better for commercial use. We’d like to see that. Okay well at least I’d like to see that.

The angle of the face cut sets the momentum and speed of rotation. The wider the face cut, the faster the log will rotate end for end off the stump.

15:00 [Simple remove 2 legs from a 5 legged stool] if there is no wind] Let F = 4 * Radius / (3 * Pi)' Centre of gravity for semicircle in other words your F(acecut/undercut/notch) only needs to pass this point (NOT halfway) for it to commit. If you don't believe me; experiment with a length of log (instead of your sample cookie) or take 2*(5-4.244)≥1.5 legs off a stool with 10 legs. The weight due to height will supply that required "external" force. The greater the height of the cookie, the greater the "external" force.

Part of safety is to keep your chainsaw sharp. Less cutting on the notch also reduces fatigue, allows for angle readjustment, removal of Dutchman & time working at height.

Great video Jacob! Something my friend Paul taught me which helped me fine tune my style. Over 50’ slowing the spin with a hand or notch to achieve 270 degrees and below 50’ speeding up the spin to achieve 270 with wide notches or an influencing hand and a little practice works like a charm. That said Maine and Alaska don’t have quite the trees your locale does, however we have big pines and I’ll land 20” wood when possible. Be well

Around here we are usually taking out logs that are oriented sideways on multi stem deciduous decurrent trees which changes the formula I assume. But I enjoy all the analyzing you do and respect it.
