This is a BTS of our accessible kitchen renovations. Once the kitchen is complete, I plan on making a comprehensive a video showcasing all the accessibility features, and some amazing before and afters.
After suffering my spinal cord injury i have really had to adapt in life. So Im showing you my disability lifestyle to raise disability awareness. As a disabled woman and a woman in a wheelchair who is paralysed, I thought it would be interesting for you to see, and hopefully give you some inspiration and motivation so that you can live more independently. wether you are paraplegic or quadriplegic I hope that I can help you. The wheelsnoheels message is “so no one has to feel alone.”
I have lots of interesting disability videos, a lot of videos on how to cope with a disability and living life in a wheelchair, wether you are a girl boy woman or man. i have some paraplegic exercise videos, and advice. its important to keep your fitness levels up as much as possible as this can when physically and mentally with depression.

An update on the renovations. I hope your enjoying these vlogs. We’ve got lots more to come. The kitchen is looking amazing and I can’t want to show you when its finished. I have some ideas of how to do a friendly kitchen inspired by standing office desks. These desks can move up and down depending wether you stand or sit. So why not have your sink, hob's and work surfaces move up and down so they can works for everyone you could have it low down so you can easily use and Shaun can have it higher up. The pipes, gas line, power can all be flexible to do the movement.

It’s starting to come together and is looking beautiful. I think you made the right decision about the smaller sink, it would have defeated the point of having a lowered worktop if the sink took it all up. Can’t wait to see the finished product. I loved how excited Shaun was about the bins and Daisy very kindly showing the cat around the new kitchen, I hope the dog gets one too!

I have a Neff oven! Technically it’s not mine, as I live with my parents 😂 Daisy is such a good daughter helping to get your chair in and out of the boot 🙂

@@Wheelsnoheels yes, we do. It’s so much easier to get things in and out when you can tuck the door underneath so I can get in closer and lift things in and out far easier, especially if it’s something quite heavy as I have no muscles 😂 so I can’t reach out and lift something heavy at arms length. Lighter things, I can, but heavy things, no. Need to work on my muscles 😂

Wonderful singing and dancing from Mr Shaun. I am sorry to hear you have had falls but am glad you have not hurt yourself. I wasn't using my footplates because the soles of my feet are so painful (waiting for surgery) and I hurt my left foot. Lesson learned. Always use footplates or it will be more painful. I have an oven/microwave combi so not so far to reach inside. When I get my accessible kitchen (I asked my grant officer to find a builder and he found one so quickly) the worktop will be 80cm. I hope your new leak does not impact in the inside and is soon resolved.

I was lucky and had an adjustable sink and worktop put in in my kitchen (housing association)

Hi Gem. I have a lowered bench in the pantry for my food prep. It is 2 cupboards width wide which is just a tiny bit small as I keep banging my elbows on the edge of the raised parts either side...ouch! I would have gone 3 cupboards wide if I had realised. our drama was the Extractor fan in the kitchen had to have 2 outlet pipes and they kept only having one in...took ages to sort out but all is good in the end! Enjoy your new empire!

I just checked my worktop height and it’s 75cm but I have one of my kitchen worktops at standing height just incase family/friends need to use it. If he can building you a sliding ledge you will definitely use it. I got the slide away oven door to, with an induction hob with a heat shield underneath and a wheeled unit that can be moved under different worktops for extra storage. Your kitchen is really coming along and is looking fantastic I bet you both can’t wait to start enjoying it. I hope you’re doing ok and it’s not as stressful as last week. Wow kitchen is looking good. Can you pls tell me more about the little clip and purse you attached to the chair, i finally have my new chair on order and am looking for bag/purse hacks and any tips on cup holder too pls. We're off to disney World in summer so am going back over your vlogs for hacks to get me through my first trip in a chair as this is all still so new. Thanks in advance x💐💐

I love my Neff oven. It saves so much space in my kitchen. I paired it with the slide out mounts for the baking sheets. That way I never have to reach into the oven as well.

I think the bag (purse?) attachment system is rather cool. But does it pose a security risk? How easy would it be for anther person to just grab and go? I freely admit, I am a tad paranoid about this sort of an issue.

I bought the wrong cooker in lockdown in a fit of desperation. Now I can’t fit a kitchen in round it! Hope your kitchen works out better than mine. You’d struggle to make it worse!

Another great vlog Gem, just a little quick question, where did you get your phone case/purse that connects to your chair? I have looked high and low, normally I stick my phone/wallet under my bum but as you can imagine I have dropped a few times, thank you

I realize this is late, but I have my office work table on a hydraulic lift system so the height is adjustable. It’s a similar shape to your kitchen work counter.

total odd question, does really go with the video. Do you drive? I am just about to try and start driving again, I try and work out how are it is to drive with hand controls, do they get in the way when the car is driven "normally"?

Any advice on funding a wheelchair if u aren’t able to get help from nhs As I’ve mentioned before my previous carer stole my wheelchair and because of this I can’t get another one on the nhs A family member helped me fund my current wheelchair but it is causing me a lot of issues and I need a new one Do you know of any other funding options available I can’t work so access to work isn’t an option for me either If anyone has any suggestions please feel free to reply
