OfficeHancho, I'm so impressed by you, as usual. I remember commenting regarding the Cotto-Foreman ref on your original "Outstanding Performances by a Referee." I, very strongly, disagreed with your take on Mercante Jr's account of himself. There have been very few times that I've been so disgusted with a ref while watching a fight. I really admire your work and insight, and I agree with your takes 999 times out of 1000. Publicly owning up to being mistaken shows a lot more wisdom than does being correct 100% of the time. I struggle with it in my personal life, never mind admitting it on youtube. I'm really proud to be one of your fans, man.

It might be an unfair judgment, but I always question the credentials of any sports KZfaq channel due to them often being operated by fans instead of experts. When considering the complex nature of combat sports, it's especially difficult for a casual viewer to figure out if a content creator has the proper expertise to make an accurate analysis or if they're simply more knowledgeable than the viewer but not an actual scholar of the sport. I'm purely an MMA guy and it's especially apparent that due to the rapid rise in MMA's popularity, there's a lot of channels that appear to the casual fan to be ran by experts when they're really just complete shams looking to capitalize off of KZfaq's lack of established MMA breakdown channels

I remember Sven Ottke's reign of terror over the IBF Super Middleweight title. All he had to do was finish the fight standing and he was guaranteed to retain his title. If by chance he'd get ko'd the ref would rule it an accidental slip. A middling fighter wins a title and holds it for a decade enjoying some home cooking from local commissions. Sickening.
@dandelgado11
@dandelgado11 2 жыл бұрын
This was an awful performance from the ref, but to generalize this in the bad blooded fashion you did is just way off....i hate that whiny and unreasonable tone of allegations of being treated unfairly and unfairly by fans who think their boxers can come here and take the title with the american style of judging and counting from the champion in his home country and take it with them. If a European boxer wants to assert himself in the USA, he has to understand that things are judged differently in the USA, how much more value is placed on aggression here and that he has to change his style. EXACTLY vice versa. If a boxer runs after another all the time, hits 20 times more but still has fewer clear hits, he will not win anything here, European judges count points that depends on clear hits only. That has nothing To do with a shiat like "reign of terror" or some kind of nonsensical populist rubbish which is obviously based on complete misunderstanding of the European and especially German boxing school of the 90s... with a slight racist touch against Germans also. With the rating scandals that are common in the USA, one should be very quiet with criticism of Europe and this kind of disgusting insinuation and shut the fuh up. Deal with the German amateur school of the 80s and the resulting professional boxing style of the 90s, as well as the European value system. You Americans always think everything has to go your way and if you didn't you'd be cheated worse. What a load of crap.

YT Flagged me because of the blood on David Diaz when Pacquiao KO him which i had to make an appeal. In this video Did you notice in the Soto fight I not only didnt show all the leaking blood from Lorenzo nor showed his completely mangled nose? Because YT will flag that. The Colon fight was news in boxing that would spread throughout the whole world, i even stated "The events that would take place would shock the boxing world". Its common knowledge what happened and what he looks today. I explain for the most part information that I know the viewer do not know. The refs bad history in big fights and did he get barred from the sport after this fight. This video took a month to make because of work and the script with 3 others had to be rewritten entirely due to the file being lost in a Blue screen of death.

There are many non-top level referees in professional boxing and amature boxing. The referees that ALWAYS comes to mind that are some of the greatest of all times in my book are; Joe Cortez, Mills Lane, Frank Cappuccino, Arthur Mercante, Kenny Bayless, Mickey Vann, Steve Smoger, Tony Weeks and even if some disagree, I also find Richard Steele to be as well a very good referee. As a referee, you always have a lot of important responsibility to uphold the rules, be constant alert for anything, be quick to act and protect the boxers from being seriously hurt in the ring - lives can depend on that. You also have in your hands the possible power to hurt a boxer's career if not making correct calls.

The Reid v Ottke fight actually caused me to stop watching boxing for a few years. It was a disgusting display - both from the "referee" and from Ottke himself. He may have retired with an undefeated record, but seeing as - except for one time - he never fought outside of his native Germany, and was nearly always given the same preferential treatment he received in the Reid fight, Ottke's legacy leaves a hell of a lot to be desired.

yes it really sucks seing sven ottke on wikipedia in a list of undefeated champions and then realizing that he was a fraud really hurt. its the same when looking at german UFC fighters just for them to turn out as n@zis

To be fair, Russell Mora has improved tremendously the past few fights. Sadly though, the Agbeko vs Mares will forever tarnish his legacy as a prizefight referee.

Is it sad though? Agbeko was absolutely robbed. That doesn't just ruin the fight, but to a large extent the mans career.

Idk, I suspect some kind of corruption there or personal favoritism on his part in that fight. He’s shown he’s a good ref and knows how to call fights correctly but watched clear low blows come in and call them legal. It’s hard to believe that was honest so it rightly taints his career, he should have been investigated

The Forman fight was incredible the first video! If I was in the corner I would stopped the fight no matter what! The refere would have to kick me out of because I would have been in the ring making him stop the fight. That refere had money on the fight and lost of it. He probably told a family member or really close friend to put money on the fight saying it would last a particular number of rounds. That the only reason he made him continue and ignored the towel, that’s the only reason, he needed a number of rounds to not loose money

What's really strange is how judges & officials imported into Germany in an effort to curb the questionable officiating & scoring end up doing the opposite. I recall some interviews where fighters said they would never fight in Germany under any circumstances.

I was there for Spence vs Ugas at AT&T stadium and the sheer terrible refereeing done that night by Laurence Cole was nonstop, almost every fight. It amazes me how he still referees these high-profile fights, let alone referee at all. He got booed so many times I'm sure watchers at home heard.
