First boxing event I ever attended was a PBC Christmas event last year, it was a card full of prospects. Unfortunately, I arrived very late to the venue so I could only watch the 2 last fights which were a 6 round fight and a 10 round fight. But the 2nd boxing event I attended was the Beterbiev vs Smith fight at the Hulu theater in NYC. I learned from my first experience I did arrive at the perfect time to watch 5 fights.

I 100% agree with you about your comment on Srisaket Sor Rungvisai. So many of us who live in first world countries act like Marie Antoinette (let them eat cake), as if fighters from the third world could afford to live off 3-4 fights a year in their native countries like Western champions today. So what if a guy pads his record as long as when he has to face the big boys, he can hold his own.

The first pro fight I attended was on the 24th of February 2007 when Fernando "Cochulito" Montiel defeated Z "The Dream" Gorres by Split Decision to retain the WBO Super Flyweight Championship at the Cebu City Sports Center in the Philippines. That night, Gorres was the only Filipino fighter to lose to a foreign opponent, while Bert Batawang, AJ "Bazooka" Banal, Jimrex Jaca, and Rey "Boom-Boom" Bautista knocked theirs out.

That Tommy Morison fight was a gumbo of epic, legendary, sad, unfortunate, incredible, mind blowing, devastating & more simultaneously to me as a lil kid. If I recall, the fight happened either a year or two before or a few yrs after i was born, but my granddad recorded it to add to his great boxing footage & film collection. (He used to be an amateur fighter until he was drafted into WW2. What he saw/experienced over there changed him & he didn't want to box anymore but he grew to love the sport as a fan again. ) Or PopPop would watch those fights with my older brothers. (Quick funny story: my grandfather's friends is why we call him PopPop. Bcz they called him by that, never by his name. We called him PopPop short for grandpop/grandpa. They called him PopPop for the sound his gloves made when he'd his opponent. Left punch instantly followed by the right punch. PopPop. Lol.) But when I started falling in love with "the sweet science" as a kid, PopPop would break down every bit of each fight we watched. Teaching me both fighters flaws & strengths, what specific actions/behavior/reactions meant, & much more. And I'll never forget the day i saw this fight with PopPop, my older brothers, & one of my brothers, my pop & two of my uncles, lmbo. Although I am an (exactly %48) African American, I don't do like a lot of other African Americans. Where they'll pick/bet on a fighter or any other athlete just bcz they're black. So, although i wasn't against Ray, I had my bet on Tommy & I thought that flurry in the corner was about to be the end of Mercer. And the whole script was flipped. I erupted, exploded, & was in utter shock. Again, I wasn't against Ray, so i applauded his victory. It was awesome. But i felt heartbroken for Tommy. To come so close to your goal, your victory, your triumph & just as you're reaching it & are finger tips away & in an instant its snatched from you, the tide turn, & you lose. That was truly saddening to me.

Not all of our boxing memories are pleasant ones. Or they're memorable for the wrong reasons, maybe. Whatever it is, they're stuck in our heads, living rent free. 🤣 It is what it is. Be a boxing fan long enough and you'll have a bunch of moments that make you shake your head just thinking about them. Waddayagonnado? 😂

My first Combat sporting event was UFC on Fox: Lawler vs Dos Anjos. Me and two of my best friends went to this event where we not only saw to former UFC undisputed champions fight in the main event, but we got to watch future champions and title challengers in Jan Błachowicz, Glover Teixeira and Jared Cannonier. We also got the privilege of seeing Santiago Ponzinibbio vs Mike Perry which was a barn burner. Mike Perry was suppose to appear at a local night club called OV but due to the fight being so tough he puked into a bucket right as he stepped out of the cage. Rafael Dos Anjos went to this club and according to a local club promoter that I knew he came in with his crew, got a couple of girls and left lol.
