Companies just DO NOT UNDERSTAND that no one has any money. Peoples wages have been stagnant for decades and its finnaly reached the breaking point. Even hobbies are outside the cost of people who enjoyed them.

Not just that. The value proposition went out the window. Like - you make something, anything and it's magically worth asking price regardless of what it is. AND THAT'S MONEY YOU ARE OWED. Even worse if it's touted as an investment. I quit WH and I wouldn't even be playing MTG if Forge wasn't a thing. It's a fun game and all, but colored pieces of bent cardboard are supposed to be worth pocket change for kids, not entire salaries.

@@lasskinn474 Yeah the new player base has dwindled to non existence in MTG. Only a few hardcord players skimp by spending hundreds on cardboard while the majority of players are bartering and trading for everything. This is why the game is full of Pay to Win whales that go to tournaments and its the same 100players over and over. Because no one else is spending that kind of money. Stagnant wages has affected the amount of cards being bought by casual and new players to a point that many LGS stores have shut down or just hold a few events unlike they use too. Even Troll and Toad called it quits. The economy is a DIRECT cause for this.

I was watching the Simpsons last night and it was the episode where the TV executives think itchy and scratchy is getting boring. So they change and add a bunch of stuff but it doesn't help it at all....I say that to say this...MTG needs to be left alone and go back to the old days we don't need or want all this extra stuff....bring back the classic MTG

I just wanted to mention that I had made the decision back in January to cease purchasing any new WOTC products after the combined messes with D&D and MTG. I did, however opt to continue listening and watching a few shows that seemed to know the goings on. For MTG, it's pretty much been the Magic Historian. Too many others seem more concerned with defending WOTC, or downplaying the negative things that have happened. This show gives the good and the bad. Just thought I'd express my appreciation for your work.

14:20 you can buy your top 5 favorite EDH, Pauper, and Vintage decks for $250. You can't even get a full set on Arena for that. So there's a myth of a higher cost, but it's actually cheaper. Now factor in you can SELL YOUR CARDS! I am technically up $ on MTGO, despite making no effort to do so. Your money isn't set on fire in return for a card now sewn into your arm, you buy a card and can just resell it later lol

Want to really understand how cheap cards are on MTGO? I bought 1/each foil treatment OG duals (so, 10 cards) back in the middle of 2020. Cost me $90; you can't even get a HP Plateau for that! Interface is clunky, yes. But it's proper Magic, not that nonsense you get on Arena (and you can play actual multiplayer Commander).

i feel like Kellen was always supposed to be there, the idea being the Omenpath arc sees him traveling from Eldraine all the way to Thunder Junction to finally meet his dad, but also that he kinda forms like a motley crew of sorts that will have some sort of relevance by the end of Metronome.. i guess it might be like a mini Weatherlight crew thing, which i think would be nice

I stopped playing when it was like 3 sets and a core set. Around Miraris Wake. Didn't pay attention to MTG till recently and it is so crazy how much is pumped out. Collector box and draft box is so alien as a concept. Oh, the Universes Beyond is mostly yucky IMO, The Walking Dead was the first i heard of it and im still shocked it was a thing. LOTR at least feels thematic to an extent.

I just started the video and it seems like I am fortunate to not be putting money back into mtgo when I was feeling an urge to play on my account but a feeling of concern came over me because of the state of magic and I didn't get tickets and rebuild a deck I had before cashing out of the game earlier in the fall. I look forward to the news but I also find it disheartening by the headline.

So, the fatigue thing... is real. It's hard to tell where one set ends and another begins. There's no feel of "OK, we did this arc. Oh, this new one's coming." It's just chukachuckachuckachuckacardcardcardcard. Oh, and over on Tolarian Community College? They pointed out with their *latest* secret lair news that WOTC's released enough secret lairs that they could have released one a week without skipping any weeks. Not necessarily *good* ones (I'm NOT paying $30 for 5 basic lands... not types, just lands) but ... yeah. WOTC needs to slow down.

The wins on Arena feel great but some of the losses feel horrible because it's so obvious you are being cheated. You can for a few in a row be ahead with like a 90% percent chance to win and the opponent has a perfect card with no synergy that counters anything you are doing. I can't believe I'm playing a real person just some AI that knows how to mana or draw screw me into losing

As a heavy MTGO player, I have to say, feels like Daybreak Games is actually doing a better job on MTGO than WOTC previously. Bug hunt got a bit faster, they been working on new features, response to players got faster... I was very sceptic at first, but MTGO is pretty much doing ok.

They're trying to make a new Jace. Storywise at least. They killed off most of the cast in the Phyrexia ark, and with Phyrexia done there really aren't any other large threats. Bolas is gone, so are the Eldrazi. Now what? Btw, I'm not fully against going back to more plane focused stories. The whole planeswalker non-sense kinda devolved into "most of this is unimportant because Ugin, Urza and Teferi are only marginally involved" a la the first Ixalan story. But they NEED to stop abusing some planes. Ravnica and Innistrad mainly. There's no mystery left there. And their writers need to do better. Caverns story had potential, but they completely meh-d the climax.

@@neoneanderthal2658 they really did burn through multiple major threats in 6 years which is crazy considering Yawgmoth alone was the primary antagonist for about 5 years. Side note, it wouldn't surprise me at all if Nicol Bolas escaped his prison realm and became a good guy (and super nerfed of course). Yeah, I agree that they need to stop abusing planes like Ravnica and Innistrad. They should go back to 3 set blocks and have one story (start, middle, and end) within that plane. OG Ravnica and Mirrodin were really good examples of this. In general, I'm not a fan of how story arcs these days need to end with an Avengers Infinity War/Endgame finale. Also not a fan of how everything needs to be multiverse. It's so overdone and boring.

@@Smaul002 That Marvel Cinematic "universe"'s success really f-d everything up didn't it? It's funny because it's encountering the same problems comic books have had for decades(albeit it's more visible in DC than Marvel). Things can't really end. There's always going to be a next issue. So creators end up "eating" their future for their present. The need for more product outpaces new ideas and we end up rehashing the same plots a dozen times over. Every problem solved is a story that is over after all. So you can't solve them permanently. My guess for the future is that Bolas is going to be invoked, by way of an alliance of his former flunkies, or the ones who survived at least. Tezzeret, Sarkkan(I think he was involved, might be remembering someone else) etc. A rehashed Dimir of sorts. Probably won't be that good. Nephelim, horrors or something similar could be cool, but fat chance of that happening.

@@neoneanderthal2658 the problem too is the thought process that every big conflict moving forward has to be bigger and better than the last big conflict. I don't see how you can top a multiverse invasion to compleat everyone (obviously I'm talking about the concept here, the execution was horrendous). I think the best thing is to do a universe reset (like how they did in Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, if you're into anime) and completely start from scratch. Maybe have one character from the old universe, like Teferi, make it to the new one so there's an anchor point character to hold onto while we get to know the new characters.

@@Smaul002 Not big into anime, no. Used to watch it when I was a teenager, but never got to Jojo. Aside from that - Right? That constant one-upmanship is what I was alluding to in my comic-book rant. Every new thing needs to be bigger and better than the last, yet everything needs to reset once it's done. Video-games have the same kind of problem with the "all killer no filler" mentality. Sound good in paper, but what ends up happening is an attempt at an escalating story with gameplay that's good at first, but it gets bland quick. Games need their low points as much as they need their high points. Blighttown wasn't a good experience but DS would be worse without it. Ditto Water Temples and the like. Divine Divinity 1 and 2 were both excellent games, even if the story barely made sense and the gameplay had difficulty spikes the size of mount Fuji. On the other hand The Division 2 was polished, well made, etc. yet I remember Enclave(janky but good) better than any experience I've had with it. March of the Machines kinda felt like a WoW expansion to me. A new thing because we need a new thing. Story-wise specifically and Phyrexians are one of my favorite factions. They deserved better.

Wizards should make it easy for players to sell their MTG Arena accounts. I've got tons of wildcards from drafting that I don't plan on using.

I hope the collapsing online destroys it. If they actually cared about thier player base, they would allow us to upload our real cards and stop nickle and diming everyone. Only the truly dim pay for digital nothing over and over again. Real cards will always be superior.

Not everyone can play paper magic dude. tell that 40 something father of four he needs to keep going to the card store to play mtg. How often will he play? once every 6-8 months? Whos playing with him at home? Digital magic is the only way to get games in on the regular.

@@Minmataro718 you don't need new cards to play with your old cards and if you spend ten minutes on any of the sites that sell cards you can spend 50 bucks and get pleanty of cards for multiple decks. Don't be lazy. But you need computer to play the game for you. That is sad. Edit. That father of four has four children he can teach it to. Making it a family event.

All they would have to do with mtgo is update the interface with higher quality images and functionality and they could keep it the same as now, and maybe people would move to that simply because arena has stupid problems they're unwilling to ever fix and mtgo has all cards and a market, plus any format you feel like playing. It is superior to arena in that it is much closer to the actual card game.

Oh my, again problems with Alayna Danner? She also had that issue with them including the wrong version of her card in "her" artist secret lair. She must feel awkward for that to happen again and again. Bye MTGO, you were a clunky but mostly usable client to play Magic, especially "normal" formats like Modern and Vintage. Nothing crappy like anything Alchemy on Arena.

I bet the art was done by plagiarist David Sondered, who did that Wayfarer's Bauble and they quickly tried to change the art to someone who isn't cancelled
