Social media addicts, gym lovers and even binge drinkers are all being targeted in the British Army's new advertising campaign to boost recruitment.
It centres around building self-confidence in potential recruits, hopes to continue the success of a similar effort 12 months ago - which saw a record number of applications.
But despite that, the size of Britain's armed forces last year continued to fall, for the ninth year in a row.

@@diegocortez270 exactly. Typical dummy question. And the mistreatment of our vets here in the US has been happening way before Biden or Trump. If Trump was so good why didn’t he do something about it by executive order instead of trying to bash Biden? One thing I can’t stand more is someone who supports trump and doesn’t even know why he’s benefiting them other than what fox of OAN tells them. Then they yell tax cuts thinking that free money. Like we still have to pay that back. The sooner the better. Trump was just kicking the can down the line and it failed. So cry harder trump supporters. My jacuzzi ain’t filled yet

I agree that Iraq and Afghanistan were initially invaded illegally but people forget that the UN stepped in very quickly to set up ISAF for the re-establishment and maintenance of peace and security in both countries. When I was 18 I tried to join the U.S. Marine. Corps. To follow in the footsteps of my uncle's who I looked up to, more than my own father. I worked out to be able to pass the physical standards. I ran 3 miles at under 20 minutes I could do the pull ups easy and I was in great shape. I started the process and scored a 99 on the asvab. I was told I could do any job I wanted. Then they found out I stole some beer from a store when I was 15. That was it. All my training for nothing. I tried the other branches and they didn't want me either. I was so bummed I used to sleep under a marine corps flag while I was training. Anyways, after all these years I'm glad it happened that way. I do not respect the woke direction the US military is headed. It looks weak to me. All the vets I know are ashamed of what's happening in the military.

This may be true, but it is beside the point. Sky news is here to shed light and make insightful comments on our society. They need to be explicit with their findings, and in order to do that they need to analyse them. Simply accepting what people say on interview without considering why/ how likely they are to admit something (in this case a lack of self - confidence) isn’t very helpful. To truly find out whether today’s generation lack a level of self confidence possessed by preceding generations, they have to do more research and analysis to come to a quality conclusion. This isn’t to say that everyone doesn’t lack confidence at some point or at some time in their life. It is commentary on whether today’s society lacks a level of confidence which can’t be acquired by quick fixes and instant gratification. A level of confidence that is diminishing in our society, which the Army try to address in their new Recruiting Adverts.

Hiya, While I am not one for singing the army praises and such as after the army it was a "best of luck boyo" sort of deal. One thing I did learn in the army is how to break the chain of being bullied and marginalized. I went through some really hard times in the army but it actually gave me the confidence to look up in the real world and I think this advert resonates with me. However, there is a lot of problems when people leave the army. I am lucky my employer was understanding when I left. Any regs reading this, do not join the TA its bumfluff :D

And now trying to get more soldiers by investing into campaigns, new rooms and a new rifle (things we don’t need) while a lot of our soldiers still get issued webbing gear. „Und diese Verbände kann man mit einem Federstrich auflösen, aber man wird 10 Jahre und mehr brauchen, um sie wieder aufzustellen.” (And these units can be broken up with the stroke of a pen, but it will take 10 years and more to put them back up.) My grandparents both were in the British Army their brothers and sisters as well also in the Royal Navy. It was a different time then and they never talked to me about the war. I think my family saw too much ..would even go as far to say they steered me away from it! The threat of invasion was imminent so I think they just did what they had to do.
