Is ignorance bliss or worth remembering? Sebastian and Lenne talk about Obliviate and the idea of justice in the wizarding world.
Voices:
- Sebastian Sallow: via 11labs and originally Alfie Nugent
- Lenne Serio: Me/Alentia
Music: Menu Music from Hogwarts Legacy
(Note: TikTok has the 'real' music version!)
SPECIAL NOTE: This is fan-made, but captured in Hogwarts Legacy! I used several mods, with the help from my fellow #MDBATH creators. The lips don't move because facial animations aren't easily moddable yet. (Getting there, though!)

I lovew how MC is straight up sel-IDing as a scociopath, _rightfully so in that game, lol._ We've killed more people *firsthand, **_in a year,_* than Voldy ever did in his life.

I love this deep talk rather than the other videos of teenage-ish talk all over the internet. It gives more depth of character to each individual. More than just to hear what you wanted to hear. Seeing their perspective and all.

Sebastian has been through so much that he’s a very alluring character to sympathize. He lost his parents pre-game, his uncle was acting like a karen, he nearly lost “all” of himself to save his sister, and now has emotionally lost her. Lenne is right on magic can’t solve everything. There’s talks about a sequel game. I hope for a number of things and here’s 2. When starting to play, we get to choose rather or not we’ve turned him in, before it begins. We can also choose to pursue a relationship with or the other companions. Natty, Poppy, or Amit (who will officially b the Ravenclaw companion, since he didn’t get enough quests).

I actually enjoy talks like this. Although they're kids, they've had to make severe adult choices throughout the story. So it's fitting to me. Funny enough, I put this game down after doing my first 100%, but I feel like it's time to return to this world again.

We needed MC to have deep conversations with other characters. It’s lovely that you made this. I do wish we could have learned more about Poppy’s childhood. Something about growing up in a poacher camp seems like an intriguing topic of discussion, even if the game downplayed most of the antagonists/villains.

Lenne is right that magic can't solve everything. Obliviate plays with the removes of your memories of events. But that the caster's sense of rules and their justice not yours. It create a loss of possible understanding of what went wrong or healing of what lead you into these events. It's a very uncomfortable spell that is easily abuse. More I heard Lenne , talking about these heavy subjects with Ominis and Sebastion. The more interesting I find her. Good work Alentia.

I really enjoy this immersive style of fanfiction. The music, the voices, the visuals- it's lovely even though it's not perfect. It's about being creative and honing skills in areas of interest and passion. I know there's a lot of ethical debates on the use of AI in voice acting, but I still love seeing this sort of thing. I think the best way for us to figure out the boundaries of AI is to keep asking questions and to keep using it and finding what works for all creatives and talents. I want to see independent and small content creators who can't afford human voice actors but still have lovely imaginations and creative energies be able to thrive. VA's are super skilled, but the industry does have some elitist type issues that make it harder for indie creators to keep up with the big budget studios. For creativity to be able to thrive, we need to have more diversity. I think AI can be a tool for that and come along side VA's. It's not going to totally replace them at all, just create new opportunities for creators and voice actors alike. While I 100% understand their valid fears and concerns, I think there's still a way for AI to benefit both VA's and folks who wanna use AI. In that same spirit, I do urge you to be careful how you word how you write your scripts. AI is a multi-functional tool and there's tons of ways writers can use it as an assistant and tool as well rather than replace those of us who write in our careers. It's a helpmate, not a replacer. So I do think the way you say "NEVER through AI" has a tone that insinuates shame for writers who use AI. While I think it's unethical to have AI write your work and then take credit for it, using AI as a tool is a different story. It can be really great for writers to use for brainstorming or through working writer's block. Real writing is re-writing, so an AI helping you and then you going back and re-writing and adjusting and going into depth and puzzle solving the way writers do anyway is, well, just the natural writing process. AI just helps that be more efficient for writers who understand that process already. However, I think it's fine to admit when you don't use it and ethical to admit when you've used it as a tool. If the AI isn't writing it for you and doing all the work, then I say it's a similar principle to writing a scholarly paper using resources and avoiding plagiarism. Overall, I think it's amazing to see how Ai is being used and you're certainly a pioneer navigating unfamiliar territory and doing so quite marvelously! Your writing skills are incredibly entertaining and seeing it done in such a cinematic format makes your work even more fun and powerful!! You've made the MC your own fleshed-out character and crafted some very thoughtful dialogue. Playing with the visual angles and backgrounds along with music and lighting really helps establish tone as well. I see too thoughts in cinematic angles and how they're changing the way the audience is being sucked into the story. There's honestly a lot of creative thought going into these videos of yours, so I hope people see this and realize AI isn't something for "lazy people" rather it can be a tool for skilled and creative people such as yourself to bring visions to life that otherwise they wouldn't have been able to!! So glad to see such creativity happening with these mediums and tools and I can't wait to see what you do next :))

Thank you for all your thoughts here. Just to address it first, totally understand where you're coming from with the "never through AI" line I have. In truth, I wrote that simply as a boiler plate response when I started creating HL content, since I and other creators in the space have been previously accused of having AI write our scripts for us, when it's not at all the case. Even this video had some Tiktok viewers stating this was purely AI, but at this point I've kind of accepted these false claims will happen because even in my IRL job, we have people assume it's always AI generated when it is 100% human. We live in a strange creative environment where discerning human vs AI gets harder everyday. Anyway it's been a long time since I listed that bio though so I'll revisit it soon, thank you for bringing it up. And as an aside, I agree having it as a reference or "assistant" as you mentioned can be a valid use. (Outside of the privacy, ethical sourcing, and accuracy concerns, of course.) I've only used GPT once as a reference, when double-checking if my France chapter in Sentire was somewhat 1800s-period accurate. The rest is just from my head, but it does help having a reference to assist in writing. Even Google itself is not wholly accurate anymore due to the rise of AI-generated articles and Google's own advertisement-prioritized algorithms; at this point it's all just our best foot forward and best intentions. But yes, we're living in an interesting time right now where AI is questionable and hotly debated. I've personally started using my own voice and phasing out the other characters I've used in the past, outside of a few like Sebastian (his VA Alfie is fine with these videos). Until more regulations on AI come into place, I guess all of us are wild west-ing for now and seeing where the creative limit is. Not sure where it'll take us but enjoying the ride for now. Anyway sorry for rambling haha, but thank you for your kind words on this video. It's something I've always wanted to do and with all the girls from MDBATH helping each other figure out how to mod HL, all of us are really impassioned to keep making content and try new stuff!

I hope you don't mind, but I'm incredibly curious what you would think about the usage of Obliviate in a scenario I wrote, and I'll try to summarise this as much as possible. I sincerely apologise for the wall of text, if you can't be bothered or are too busy to read and reply, please feel free to ignore this- I wrote a side-character in my HL fic, a woman, whose father was framed for the murder of his wife. He sought aid from neighbours and friends to care for his daughter but was turned away by all, so he took his daughter and fled, for he couldn't afford to be sent to Azkaban and leave her alone. She grew up in isolation and as he struggled to care for her alone in the middle of nowhere before dying from overwork, she became a bitter and angry woman, refusing to return to her village like her father wanted her to because, "I owe the world nothing, I care not for the villagers, for no one helped us, the world is cruel, so why should I be kind?". She became a woman who turned away all who sought aid from her, taking advantage of the MC in my story and they're a rather... objective chaotic neutral type character, so they capture the woman and use her to test their defensive traps in repayment, traps built to protect their, Ominis and Sebastian's home (she also presents a security threat because MC had asked the woman for info at a point). When bemoaning her unfair fate, the MC basically says "regardless of your circumstances, the moment you hurt someone innocent, you lose the right to call any retribution you receive as unfair, you will be judged by your actions, not your origins" and the woman reflects and realises that she'd become exactly like the people who turned her father away when he asked for help. So, when Ominis discovers what MC and Sebastian were doing to the woman, he negotiates for her life, suggesting Obliviate as a way to let the woman live without the security threat and MC and Sebastian agree. However, the woman requests to be fully Obliviated and lose all her memories, for it was her father's suffering that made her bitter and reclusive. She requests to be left in a town far away, that she may start anew and the MC agrees, for the person after the charm is not the woman who took advantage of them. She isn't even named in my fic, because as she says when Ominis asks for her name, "What does my given name matter any now?" and the MC replies, "Indeed. Your name will be something you choose for yourself this time." (She ends up being found by a friendly barkeeper who later goes on to marry her despite having some short-term memory issues from the heavy Obliviate.) I'm very curious what your take on this would be. After all, this is a person who specifically hates the person she's become, and feels compelled to continue being so, and whose other option is death. Would you consider Obliviate as acceptable in this scenario? (Also, I actually had Sebastian come to terms with his actions long before this so he wasn't tempted by the spell, though I can see it appealing to him if he hadn't xD) (Aaaaalso, heh heh, I was actually planning in my last arc that involves severe corruption in the Auror office and Ministry involving abuse of the Obliviate charm amongst others, nice to see I'm not the only one who thinks it'd be laughably easy to abuse.)

Thank you for sharing! I like it, interesting story. She was wronged and she did do wrong, which I do think if she harmed others she should be penalized, but in return there was no one who took justice for her and her father either. The chaotic neutral personality of your MC using Obliviate makes sense though in context so I think you using Obliviate makes sense here. To add, I think there was a little bit of a caveat with Obliviate that can work well, which is the rewriting/insertion of memories. As Lenne mentioned in the video, the body sort of keeps score of the trauma, but if the caster is able to "take responsibility" as it were to fully give reason and context to a person post-Obliterate, that person has the ability to overcome their trauma and heal. Get married and live a happy life with a bartender like your story, haha. It's a morally grey area that I think is acceptable, but I don't know if you want to use such a condition at all. But because Obliviate can be a complicated spell that I think narratively you can really roll with anything here. And all the best on your writing 😊
@SwordmaidenGwen
@SwordmaidenGwen 6 ай бұрын
@AlentiaHart Thank you for taking the time to reply! I'm happy to hear your thoughts on this scenario, and I'm grateful for the additional suggestion! I think, theoretically, if the body keeps score of the trauma, it should also keep score of the woman's desire to start anew and the feeling that her past is something she wishes to discard. I feel like it's hard to say the exact depth that the Obliviate goes, since JK wasn't very specific, so I probably won't dip too deep into her recovery. But the insertion of false memories certainly a tantalising idea, and I might include it in the corrupt Aurors arc, imagine them using insertion of fake memories to frame individuals or get family members to stop searching for missing people xD
