My city near Houston has 4 6A school. 3 with football teams. Then a few streets over a 5A team. Too stacked

We are the same way in Dallas too. Desoto and Duncanville are literally 20 miles away from each other. Cedar hill is about 10 miles from desoto. It’s tons of high schools in between.

We all pretty much knew it. SLC really upped their game in the playoffs. The only team that beat them in the regular season got a total beatdown from the Dragons in the playoffs. The SLC/DeSoto game was competitive. It seemed DeSoto was stronger at the end though. Summer Creek had only lost 1 game and that was a 10 point loss to NS. The were not a bad team. The were not ready mentally to play at Jerry World. DeSoto has been there many times. Once the Eagle machine got moving there was no stopping it. The fact that Willis was semi competitive with DeSoto for a half is a testament to just how good of a QB they have. That might be the best QB in the nation. But they had no way of stopping DeSoto either. Eventually it became one sided. DeSoto made a statement just in case the Duncanville fans were ready to say they would win the rematch. For the most part those two have a lot of respect for each other though. They are rivals but pull for each other when they are squaring off.

I saw that too. Probably, the shit talk is strong in SummerCreek. They showed disrespect where it was public noticed.

D1 and D2 in highschool football nothing to with which schools are better. There's just a lot of schools

@QDJW , 6A-D1 is the higher Division, 128 of the biggest schools are 6A-D1, while 6A-D2 is the next 117 biggest. Every state, as well as College Football, has a most ELITE DIVISION. In Texas, the highest division is 6A-D1. The Higher Division is always the more glorious championship. Desoto did beat Duncanville and run the tables to go undefeated, but Ducanville had the tougher road. On the flip side, I myself agree with everyone in that Desoto should be the #1 Ranked Team in the GREAT STATE of TEXAS. Congrats to Desoto for being the BEST in Texas! and props to my Duncanville High on another 6A-D1 Championship. I lived in Duncanville when I was 5-7 years old, 1975-1977. I still do go back to Dallas area to visit friends and family every 3 years or so.

@@ErichVonCartmann I don't think many Texas High School football fans see it this way. They see it as 6A state champs. The fact that two team in their district had larger enrollment changes nothing. There have been many years in which the D2 champ was considered better than the D1 champ. Furthermore there have been years in which the D2 champ had greater enrollment than the D1 champ. The path is often harder for the D2 teams particularly in R1 and often in R2. Duncanville had a cake walk really. DeSoto had to beat one very good opponent to get to state. SLC was better than any team Duncanville beat to get to state. I think Willis was probably better than any of the teams Duncanville beat to get there as well. In R3 and R4 the path was easier for D2 this year. But keep in mind's WL goes D1 as often as D2. Katy also goes back and forth. This year both happened to go D1. Dripping Springs and Steele were the only legitimate contenders out of R4 with WL being D1. Likewise with Katy in D1 Summer Creek was the strongest D2 team. I think they would have beaten Katy regardless. But Steele and Dripping Springs would very likely have lost to WL. A WL/SC game would have been great. Neither team was beating DeSoto though. But neither would have any of the D1 teams like NS. .

I know Duncanville recruits, Desoto is homegrown talent.

I’ve seen a lot of good DeSoto teams. This is not their first time creating a beast team like this. If you would look at 2011, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16.

Desoto is in 6a division 2 and duncanville is in 6a division 1 so they may play each other but they won’t run into each other in playoffs or state do to how the schedule and districts are put together

At the end of the season the top 4 teams from each of the 6A districts make the playoffs. I think there are 30 something 6A districts. Of those 4 teams the two with the largest enrollment are placed in D1. The other 2 are placed in D2. Duncanville has the highest enrollment in their district so they would be D1 no matter who the other 3 were. Likewise DeSoto has the lowest enrollment in that district so they would be D2 no matter who the other two teams were. Waxahachie and Cedar Hill were the other two teams from that district that made the playoffs. I don't know their enrollment but Cedar Hill had less students because they were D2. Thus we have Duncanville and Waxahachie as the D1 reps from that district. Cedar Hill and Desoto were the D2 reps from that district. Contrary to what many seem to think this has nothing to do with how good the teams are. This is just based on enrollment compared to the other 3 teams in your district that made the playoffs. This is the UIL rules and the teams have no say in this. It is a flawed system but every alternative system I have heard proposed has flaws as well. BTW both Duncanville and DeSoto won state last year as well. Two years in a row both 6A state champs came from the same district. Although not as good as they were a few years back, Cedar Hill has won a few championships as well. Let's just say that is a very good district.

@@ak2hotgmc There is a proposal to add another classification. The question then becomes where would be the cutoff and would we have enough teams to make up districts without some crazy traveling. I think there is somewhere around 250 schools that are 6A now. Most are in districts of 6 to 9 teams. So most get a few pre district games before district play. Regular season is 10 games. Texas has grown so much in the last 30 years. New high schools are constantly being built. Sometimes that new school might mean that other schools will drop to 5A , but over time all of the nearby schools will be up to 6A numbers. And then more schools are built. The largest school has an enrollment of over 6000 students. Several other are well over 4000. Most 6A schools are around 3000. The UIL put out it's numbers requirement every two years that determines where enrollment will put each school. I think currently over 2300 forces a school to be 6A. Interestingly a school under this number can opt up and play in the higher classification. But a school can not do the opposite. Obviously the intent is to not have schools playing against schools that are over twice its size but still be able to fill the districts. 3A, 4A and 5A all do the same. 4 teams from each 5A district will make the playoffs. The 2 with the largest enrollment are the D1 teams from that district. Every district will have two D1 reps and two D2 reps. We could instead have classifications going all the way up to 10A but the districts would would require a lot of teams to travel great distances in the regular season. In theory the schools of 4000 plus should dominate over the 2300 schools. In reality that has not been the case. In many years the smaller 6A schools are the best. .The schools in Plano are all in the 4000 range but they are not very good at football. Westlake has around 2800 students and usually has a great team. DeSoto's was barley 6A and yet was taking down giant schools with ease this year.

But D2 is just too easy and not at all challenging from a football standpoint, and its been that way for a longtime. De Soto needs to play in the D1 division all year and every year, not just playing 1 or 2 D1 teams a year. They need that D1 heat every week and 24/7. These D2 teams are ages behind them in all aspects of the game, with the exception of Southlake...but even they're a couple levels behind.

Desoto had already beat Duncanville before the playoffs started, but I'm assuming your question is why didn't Desoto play Duncanville in the playoffs. The reason being is that Desoto has a low enrollment that's expected to decline more over the years.

No they don't sir they just have consistent coaching and people going there because of the wins not recruiting. The Anthony Black situation was because the basketball coach at Duncanville was dating his mom way before he went to Duncanville. UIL thought that the coach dated his Mom just for him to come there. No she was running from an abusive relationship. And Also he didn't sit out for a year because he transferred early. UIL rules were if you transfer within a certain period you have to sit out. Since he didn't they claimed it as recruiting when it really wasn't. I live here too DVille and DeSoto doesn't recruit sir.
