Now about the fact that you wonder what the keepers were doing. There was a reason why they could not predict the trajectory of the ball. At that speed when the ball changes the tajectory several meters in front of the keeper they could not react. I do not think that even himself could explain how he did it. Funny story: Hagi came from a modest family and when he was a kid a scouter from the local club drafted him after hearing that nobody, not even adults could take the ball away from this "Dribbling midget" on the school pitch. His first coach said that as a kid he would stay on the football pitch after training and shoot 2-3 hours a day everyday. Me as a kid i would know that our national team could beat anybody with him on the pitch. And he would often pull some out of his ass and out of the blue when he was needed most. He was a great leader, dribbler, playmaker and long shot scorer. Similar to how Ronaldinho was at Barca.

To me, Hagi was showman. like no one else. If he got for example tackled hard, he was going to make fun of that player that tackled him, by dribble that player, Like the clip where he had tunnel on Patrick Vieira. What happened over the last 15 years is that the overall quality of players has gone down as a tradeoff with the improvement of team cohesion. Free expression in the game is almost extinct now, it's more passing and movement. Hagi is the best shooter of the ball ever, the way he hits the ball makes it nigh on impossible to stop regardless of who the keeper is. The new balls today change trajectory with minimal contact, Hagi was doing this with the older heavier balls, if he played today he'd be even more outrageous. Messi is a better overall player than Hagi, but the Romanian is better at shooting, freekicks, penalties and crossing, and he did it all with both feet.

He had strong stitches and that's why sometimes it was difficult for the goalkeepers to catch them.

goalkeepers were not bad his shots were very powerful precise and he was the first to develop a new technique of shooting making the ball not spinning while in the air which was causing the ball to constantly change the direction from gk perspective. there are many good players but he was definitely the best shooter that was consistently scoring from impossible angles and insane distances even today the best only the best players can manage to score using this technique but not as consistently like him because apart from the difficulty of this technique it needs to be paired with power and precision

Messi is better overall, but Hagi was a better free kick than Messi , by a long way. Messi is good at freekicks, Hagi was amazing at them, Messi is a better dribbler though But the best free kick taker I have seen is Juninho, but I would put Hagi in the top 3 , FOR SURE Messi I dont think is in the top 10 best free kick takers of all time to be honest, not in my opinion
