@@gunnation3497 I have heard this too from my dad who was told by my grandad, that Dobrin was the best. But I think we have to take into account that that these two players are from different eras. Its true that Dobrin was wanted by Real Madrid President, and Ceausescu did not want to let him go as he was a national treasure. That would have been Dobrin's chance to shine in front of the world, unfortunately never happened. Hagi on the other hand has played for both Real and Barcelona, (a rarity only a number of players have experienced) and he took us to 3 back-to-back World Cups, qualifying each time for the Round of 16. We have video of his most spectacular moments. I think there are many moments of Dobrin that were not captured on camera or lost, which is a shame. Dobrin will forever be one of the best, I just can't say he was better than Hagi who led our golden generation.

As for Hagi performances for Romania even Brazilian greats such as Pele and Gerson had Hagi as the outstanding player of USA 94.

Correct! Both Real and Cruiff's Barca had to build a team around him. Both would have had great results. Especially Barca who had a super good team at that time. He didn't have the brain, the spark. This could have been Hagi. I think that Cruiff wanted him at Barca more as a trophy to train him than to make him the exponential player. In my opinion, no one from that team had the value of Hagi. This is a real number 10 with everything in it.

Actually, you're wrong on multiple accounts. There were Romanian players that were allowed to play abroad, usually late in their careers. It wasn't very common, but there's a surprisingly long list. You can search it yourself. Secondly Steaua wasn't "basically the same as the national team". Yes, there were Steaua players in the national team, but if you look up the starting lineups of the national team in the mid/late 80s you'll realise that most national team players were not from Steaua. Again, this is something you can look up yourself. You are, however, correct in saying that Hagi left Steaua after the fall of communism, though some of his (older) team mates were allowed to play abroad starting '88 (Boloni) and '89 (Stoica, Pițurcă, Bălan). You are also corect in that Romania's highest FIFA world ranking was 3rd.

Romania from the 70-90s had many top footballers that the big European teams wanted. Dobrin-Real Madrid, Balaci-AC Milan and others...

Mutu ar fi mai sus ca Cobra după cifre dar și Viorel Moldovan care peste tot unde a jucat jumate din apariții erau goluri și la nantes un gol pe meci chiar...și Răducioiu era bun cu 20 de goluri în 40 de apariții la națională, și Ionel Ganea cu 19 goluri în 45 de apariții la națională, Adi Ilie a reușit doar 13 goluri în 55 de apariții...goluri frumoase ce-i drept, lobul ală ;) și Hagi ar fi putut să dea mai multe goluri la națională dar nu a reușit decât 35 în 125 de apariții. In multe iti dau dreptate, discutia despre problemele mele cu fotbalul e foarte lunga dar in sumar: Am inceput sa ma sictiresc treptat incepand cu World Cup 2002 pe care l-au facut muci conducatorii, organizatorii si arbitri, pana atunci la mone WC era sfand, dupa ala nu m-am mai uitat la nici unul, aproape deloc. Apoi comercializarea agresiva a unui fenomen frumos, un bun al oamenilor, o sursa de bucurie, inspiratie, lectii de viata si emotii unice, incet l-au transformat intr-un club gen Bamboo, marca banu’ sa vezi curu’. Aici intra toate, de la campionatul romanesc luat de televiziuni obscure si transmis prin tigai de 3 lei, cancan-ul vietilor personale dus la extrem (nu ma intereseaza pe mine cui i-o baga noaptea Mutu). Si a 3-a, nivelul de efort pe care am inceput sa il vad prin campionatele mari si CL incepand de prin ultima parte a anilor 2000 este supraomenesc. Refuz sa cred ca au descoperit medicii de alimentatie nush ce ciuperci si radacini prin gradina de alearga aia 100% din primul minut pna in 90 de zici ca le-au pus baterii alkaline. Poate gresesc, dar asa am ramas eu cu impresia si cativa ani din astia au fost de ajuns sa nu ma mai uit deloc la fotbal, n-am mai vazut un meci de peste 10 ani, iar pe vremuri stiam numele oricarui jucator de la oricare echipa din prima linga din majoritatea tarilor si daca ma trezeai la 3 dimineata sa ma intrebi. Mentionez si ca nu am jucat niciodata la pariuri.
