Alright,granmps knows how to use a katana because he clearly was in the Pacific during WWII. he got the sword from a fallen foe. Honoring the owner's traditions, grandpa learned the way of the samurai and obviously incorporated his own knowledge and experience. Heck,in my mind he did a couple tours in Nam too. That's a decent backstory for a zombie slaying Elder.

Regarding Lilith; she's of mixed Indigenous and white ancestry, and is known to the other people of the reserve. So the nurse extends the benefit of the doubt that she'd be immune, and the other punks allow her at the party because she is (however begrudgingly) "one of the group." The fact that she's NOT immune just ends up kicking Lysol's radicalism into overdrive (along with the copious drugs and booze of the night.) After all, here's proof about his point about "impurity" and "contamination." So he uses her to prove his point to everyone else (again, along with the drugs and booze and one might assume blood loss; that thing's got a lot of big blood vessels after all)

So I haven't seen the movie, and haven't finished the video yet, but regarding releasing Lilith into the camp, could it be they wanted a purge of the non-native population and just create an excuse for the rest of their people to kill or exile any survivors and keep the tribe 'pure' of non-natives?

Honestly, Lysol was talking about killing white people ever since they flashed forward to 6 months after the initial outbreak. I think the movie did a terrible job at setting his insanity up, but I think what they were going for is that he's just an angry, violent, hateful mess of a human being. He didn't even plan for it, he essentially just lashed out after having his dick bitten off and eaten by recklessly releasing a zombie into a camp of potentially dozens of people. He was just an angry idiot, and like before the outbreak, he never chose to give any thoughts to his actions and how they'll affect others. I think he tried to justify his actions as removing threats from the camp, but in reality he just wanted "revenge" and was feeling bitter. The movie unfortunately really doesn't do a good job at setting any of this up, and quite frankly nearly every single character is forgettable.
@etienne8110

If that is the case it was both poorly suggested (no foreshadowing) and poorly implemented. We know meat/water is poisoned, why not just feed those to the whites? or give them poisoned blood from an infected? Putting the whole camp at risk on this plan was really dumb.

Funny enough baby's in the apocalypse were a high likely chance the mother will die or the baby will die just from exposure is a grim reality that most movies don't actually touch appon because hey the baby survived cut the movie all is great but the reality is that baby is going to die and if it dosent a crying baby is just as bad as a gun going off. Not saying I hate baby's because I don't but when shit hits the fan unless your absolutely sure that your safe away from any zeds or whatever the child and the mother are likely going to die and thers nothing you can do to prevent that.

Actually there are a few options. First and foremost and by far the best is to find a wet nurse. (unlikely in a zombie post apocalypse but who knows?) Formula could be found in supermarkets or drugstores still not plundered (one can hope) Last option is to make pap: a mixture of bread boiled down to a thin mixture with goat milk added on option. It is unhealthy but it will keep a baby alive (it was used in the 18th) in the first 6 months, allowing to have an early diversification and have the baby survive.
@artemvalkyrie7451
@artemvalkyrie7451 Жыл бұрын
@@etienne8110 Bro, none of those ideas are viable in a post-apocalyptic world; the longer it goes on, the fewer resources there are in stores, even if some group didn't completely plunder them to begin with, and things like vitamin-enriched baby formula would expire quickly if it wasn't already consumed as supplements by some survivors. For wet nursing, you would require just what I have said: a pregnant woman, because there is no way any group would just designate a woman to be a wet nurse if they didn't have a few kids in the group and required other mothers to work. and goats would probably become scarce because, in the absence of farmers, they would have to migrate to more rocky areas to lick salt from stones or die slowly from lack of it in their bodies.
@etienne8110
@etienne8110 Жыл бұрын
@@artemvalkyrie7451 Pap/Panada doesn't *require* goat milk, it is just an addition (cow milk can work too if worked a bit). It was possible in the middle age (check "a history of infant feeding" by Emily Stevens) so it should be doable in post apo. Not easy or ideal, just doable.

Lysol kept the zombie cause he wanted to basically usurp his father as leader, so that under his control he could completely shut down the camp to non-natives and even try to kill any non-native survivors. It's a power play for him. Also from the looks of it, someone who dies turns fairly quickly, so the couple of minutes to turn by the people in the compound really isn't inaccurate

It was pretty kool to see a native american zombie movie lol I kinda feel like they are picking at the idea of the Blood Quantum, it's a very weird concept to "prove" how native you are. I'm fully native american but my daughters blood quantum say they don't have enough of my tribes blood to be enrolled. I'm mixed with a lot of different tribes from my parents and my woman is the same way. The whole idea of the blood quantum thing is designed to fail, as the tribes will "die out" on paper at least. THIS seems like a VERY competent film. Like, it actually makes a LOT of sense what they are doing. A bit of an interesting twist with the immunity, although I have to point out that some of them would go out and just sorta "re-conqesta" lots of territory..well, that would make the most sense. Although, I would be VERY surprised that government on any level would not just try and figure some kind of vaccination method or other treatment.
@k.v.7681
@k.v.7681 Жыл бұрын
A population/ethnicity having immunity to a specific disease is nothing new but that doesn't mean it can be carried over (at least not easily/as of yet) by a vaccine. Central Europeans for instance have a natural immunity to the bacteria responsible for the plague, and by extension, since the receptor on the cells involved is the same when it comes to interaction with AIDS, have a very high resistance to that virus as well. There are studies to try and figure it out (maybe with an m-rna vaccine, like covid, who knows) but it's still VERY complicated.

I honestly think the biggest problem of the film might've been the time skip. It's like the entire film was ramping up during the beginning, finally giving up the rising action of the zombies beginning to turn and assembling the main cast together in one spot, but then all of a sudden it completely sandbags that tension and excitement by flashing forward to when they're already settled down and have a fully defended camp set up. Not only does it screw with the timing and pacing, but it also takes away a couple of mysterious/interesting plot points. We don't really get to witness each character's arc, we just see the final result. I wonder if they had a budget, and this was their way of trying to avoid the major cost of trying to show the outbreak at its most volatile and chaotic.

Likely not immune. Although the writers put in some research into this Blood Quantum thing, they didn't put 100% logic into it and more research. I am a mixed race person; Black mother and Portuguese father. My grandmother (mom's mom) is half-Niitsitapi. Would I have survived this? No. All tribes have their own rules on what is considered a true native or not. Some may go by actual DNA where's others go by other methods aka you could be white and still be a member of a tribe. You could have the DNA but not be seen as a member. Also take into account that natives have cultivated all over the Americas. Many Latinos are technically Native Americans...buuuut a lot of them are also Spanish due to colonization which you could tell by skin or bone structure so... Black people have Native DNA due to Native tribes taking in escaped/freed slaves or just accepting black people because some had no where else to go (this is why my grandma is half) Yeah this theory for a zombie apocalypse may not work but then again this is a shamanic curse not rooted in science so maybe?

Okay, there is a problem with Lysol getting his member dismembered, but it's probably not the fact that he didn't get away. I've heard and seen evidence that getting hit in the groin causes incapacitating pain. It isn't hard to believe that getting one's Willie freed would be much more painful. He may not have recovered enough to do more than flail on the ground pleading for help. That amount of trauma to an area with several important blood vessels would cause massive bleeding. He would have likely bled out either within minutes of the injury or trying to get back to the compound to get medical treatment. If he managed to survive he would have been unable to function due to severe anemia. Rather than being a "why didn't he do the obvious thing" sin, this needed to be a "he survived this" sin.

Genetic predisposition due to ancestry is not unheard of, but wildly more "random" and complex than "I come from X specific tribe of humans". Humans be humans and they do form relationships, mix. Add to that the variability of genetics, and it's pretty complex. Central Europeans for instance have a form of immunity to plague and AIDS. Western Europeans have a lowered immune response thanks to Neanderthalensis mixing tens of thousands of years ago, which provides higher survivability to symptoms (basically it stops your body from freaking out with every bug and killing you from fever or swelling). Not every person carries the gene, but it's more likely to have one. You could be half Chinese and get it from a parent, while it skipped your fully white cousin. I guess a general similar thing could apply here. Natives have a higher chance of having that lucky gene, but it's not an absolute. Some "full-blooded" could be unlucky while that facebook girl that carefully listed her 1/14564481561456 part native in her bio got lucky.
@geoff3610

Is the implication here that native americans specifically have encountered the virus before, in order to gain a natural immunity as descendants of survivors? Perhaps a prequel in which we see the original tribe attacked and only a few bitten people survive for some genetic reason, leading to the high density genepool? It would be a massive oversimplification of genetics but it could work for a movie lmao

I’m very disappointed with how it took a turn for the worst in the second half of the movie; it was going so well 😖😖😖. Again, would highly recommend a Japanese zombie movie called I Am A Hero; guaranteed you would not regret it.

Honestly if the plot didn't demand some stupid shit like not checking for bites,i'd say the native group is possibly one of the best groups i've seen in the zombie genre in terms of covering their bases and being competent.

@@cartoonhistory353 there are no naturally occurring hominids in the Americas, so migration has to have occurred, and I read the story, they still believe these to be from humans migrating from the Siberian region of Asia. Genetic testing has proven that human groups predating Europeans were of Asian ancestry. If these footprints pre-date this group and are not of the same ancestry, that would imply that, upon migrating from Siberia that the migrant humans destroyed the native population.

i was so amazed to see a zombie movie be so smart for once at the first 60% of it, then everyone became stupid and logic was thrown away to include the generic 'we're suddenly overrun and forgot how to fight' cliche thats a shame, i wonder if theres any which people are consistently smart

Hope you’re doing well! I agree it probably should have been for rabies and other stuff, I think the tetanus shot was moreso just an “in general” thing. I dunno what it’s like in other areas, but where I grew up, if we got hurt with deeper punctures, cuts, what have you while outside we usually went to the urgent care for a tetanus shot. It was even part of the safety stuff you learn about in school. Still would have made sense to get more than just that shot though.

This is a very good zombie movie, with Lilith being the start of the typical zombie movie tropes, instead of most movies where they start right after the credits. I loved that they didn't have the First Nations people go right back to bows, arrows, and tomahawks and super cringey "Native Mysticism." Nope, these guys built a good base, set up some good ground rules and were on track to survive the apocalypse. Until Lilith showed up and they forgot their rules.

This kinda answers why the need for dumb chars or decisions or drama in any zombie movie otherwise the movie/show becomes a drag if ppl behaved reasonably & realistically all the time😅 Unless its a Korean/Japanese one where the genres mix with rationality.
@brunoslybruno
@brunoslybruno Жыл бұрын
does not really, the movie was a lot of fun when the characters were smart, imo it only became worse when it followed the 'dumb characters & decisions' after the halfway plus, a smart movie can create good conflict *with* the characters being clever - its just that its much easier to create it by making everyone braindead

Really liked this up until mister Necrophiliac suddenly, out of nowhere, had a sudden urge and capability to kidnap zombies and doom his own people to be exiled out of their safe compound. Would have loved them exploring the idea of say, other survivors attacking the compound maybe led by people who've had bitten family killed, etc, not the forced 28 days later-esque mass infection.
