Always a joy to watch your clean demonstrations! Any tips on how I should hop before the throw?

Thank you! The Wrist Control Arm Throw video is part of an Arm Throw series on kolat.com we don't repeat every step of the move. We add new ties in the series building on techniques already learned. This video may help you understand the positioning of the hop. Same hop with different tie up. kzfaq.infoYa4Yg9pPjzs

Great stuff as always, Coach. Did you ever do any judo? You’re effectively describing a seoi nage throw. A lot of the mechanics are similar, except the sleeve control being replaced with wrist control, but the idea is the same.

Haven't done Judo but I know a few wrestlers who have and those guys are always dangerous with their hips. Wrestling is considered the oldest sport maybe tied with running so not surprised that it crosses over to other martial arts. Thanks for the info!

One of my favorite throws of all time..!! It's a very safe throw with high finish percentage..!! You can also vary it slightly with a strong elbow to arm pit underhook from a more upright position (no drop to knees) while hipping in and catching a leg sweep..!! It pays to have a nice collection of throws..!! Highly recommend wrestlers take some Judo to tighten the throw game..!! It was a complete game changer for me..!! Cary's executions are as good as it gets..!!

Slick! It is similar to drop seoi nage. I prefer to put my right foot outside my opponent's right to try to prevent them from stepping with/around. Also, from the collar tie, pulling their head away from the direction of the throw as most people will automatically try to resist/correct their position thereby shifting their weight in the direction you want them to go, compromising their position and balance . In Judo that is called kuzushi. I used to spar with a guy out of Virginia who won many tournaments with that throw. He would usually set it up with a fake foot sweep to make his opponent step back with one foot, opening the door for him to come through and compromising their balance. There is a variation of this that I like where, instead of an arm drag, you come around the neck with your right arm in this case and take them down directly into the cowboy hold, or kesa gatame in Judo.

Below are links for what we currently have available on KZfaq. For a more in depth study check out our video series at Kolat.com. Squaring and Sprawling on a Sweep Single Leg kzfaq.info/get/bejne/laqXjMuSmby7qZs.html The Sprawl is going to be the best basic defense for all three attacks. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h7OGlNmq3dDQfok.html With the High C and The Double Leg you'll want to hip in and cross face the head circling it from the outside to the inside for the stuff and the sprawl. If you try to sprawl with the head outside you run the risk of being lifted. A more advanced defense for High C and Double Leg is the Body Lock. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/h7p4daSk39bYo3U.html Hope this helps. Please let us know if you have any questions.
