It got sabotaged because Warner Bros. didn't like not having any control over the show, and they were as sick and tired of the Salkinds as everyone else was? Yes, admittedly, the special effects really aged badly, but it was the first live-action Super "man" project that adapted more of Superman's traditional villains and not just Lex Luthor. And I thought the casting was pretty good (though it took me a while to accept Michael J Pollard as Mxyzptlk). Sherman Howard was pretty good as Lex, though nowadays I keep hearing Clancy Brown's voice when I see Lex. I didn't mind John Haymes Newton's take on Superman, even if it didn't exactly fit my view of Superboy - but I agree that Gerald Christopher was better cast since he was a little closer to Christopher Reeve. It always amazed me that he was actually 30 when he took on the role because I never thought he looked it. And Stacy Haiduk was cute enough to keep us watching. Honestly, I preferred Superboy over Smallville, which I found pretentious and repetitive. All and all, Superboy was worth watching for at least a few episodes.
