It boggles my mind that this is a real movie because it genuinely sounds like the love child of a D-tier fanfic and an SNL parody of a CW TV show

Wow! This is an amazingly accurate description of this movie.

I've noticed this unspoken trend in romance stories. Whether it's a movie or a book, the female lead is almost always without guardianship. And it feels to me like the authors of such stories want to have as little accountability for the protagonist as possible so that she can fully indulge in the dangerous and reckless activities and relationships to her heart's content. But what their doing is what abusive relationships do; they isolate one party. That alone needs to be talked about especially here. When I first saw that this movie was coming out, my first thought was, "What is this guy (forgot his name) and Jenna Ortega doing in this kind of movie. Are their families being held hostage?" I thought they were respectable until I saw them in this movie

As different as this actors want to set themselves apart with the projects they do and don’t, they’re employed by Hollywood bull agenda at the end of the day.

Its so wild to me that a woman wrote this because the cartoonishly mean wife, the teenage girls that are horny for average looking middle age men, the "makeout for male attention" scene, the vengeful "woman scorned" false accusation, and the bizarrely sympathetic portrayal Mr. Miller as ultimately innocent, it plays out like Male Fantasy Bingo. I genuinely don't understand what the point of this movie was.

Recently I saw a post about how a script writer said that the majority of scripts included inappropriate relationships and SA scenes (many with more than one scene) which makes me think that a lot of writers use their writing to act out fantasies… and based on what I have seen and heard about this film, this project was approved because of the talent involved.

There was a KZfaqr who mentioned that screenwriters will write these intense sexual scenes and have it with teens in high school instead of writing characters in college. Because they know the characters in college wouldn't make it interesting. They then mentioned how they'll have adults act it out because of the storyline and know that teens couldn't convey the feelings they want due to the subject matter.

I THOUGHT THE KISS WAS A DREAM TOO. I feel so validated cause when I went online after watching and everything said they actually kissed, I was so confused??

It's worse when you realise a woman wrote this. Makes you wonder what the point was. Also makes you wonder if the scenes were written that way or if the director was the one who shot them that way.

This makes perfect sense. I blame the teacher crush community, romanticizing Lolita, and 2010 tumblr
@tagz123452 ай бұрын
I thought the kiss was a fantasy too but it is hard to tell, maybe they left it intentionally ambiguous, I think the fact that they never talk about it means it never really happened.
@may.k_me2 ай бұрын
I assumed they kissed and nothing else But like you said, it was shot like a dream sequence so it's hard to tell

In the rain scene the rain she walked through was meant to be falling off the roof of the house. That’s why it looks like that.
@justaname9992 ай бұрын
This really should have been better. It had all the reasons to be. Like if she wrote out the sex scenes even if nothing happened, this would be such an interesting comment on how his crossing the line even a little should make him feel icky and not just the "fanfiction" she wrote. But it also doesn't work when the relationship is not put in some context of actual school life and how such a relationship actually might develop despite that context. There are students that are great at something like writing and teachers can and should support them. But how a teacher plays the mentor role and how they navigate possible feelings on the student's side is actually interesting but this movie doesn't really do anything about that.

Before I watched this movie I looked at reviews before hand and the ones I saw were surprisingly positive so I decided to watch the movie. I was so uncomfortable and felt like it was a weird indulgence piece rather than an artistic statement on the subject matter.

This is a cringer version of 50 shades of Grey, if that's possible, with Lolita's vibes (the horrible remake because at least Kubrick's has some artistic value). I think your review was very accurate; as you said wtf with the smoke transition? The editor must hate the director. And the set design is terrible. The dark academia aesthetic of the classroom makes not sense at all. I don't even get what's the public target for this movie...

As a girl, I am not judging the movie. I think it is refreshing the movie explored this topic in a different way, without trying to preach to the audience about what is right and wrong.

@kianab6880 the character in question is in high school, due to him being her teacher even if age of consent itself is fine, it’s not allowed Hence the movie I think most parents would have something to say if they’re 18 year old kid slept with their English teacher for special treatment, even if they can’t stop her they’d try, on top of that they probably could get him fired, and he is fired, in the movie….
