I thought the Can I--Bus production was dope. The problem with that album is that Canibus was rhyming off beat. He was a battle rapper trying to do a commercial product but in the end I still liked the album.

All one has to do is look at the popular battle rapper today and then ask yourself how many of them are able to crossover to mainstream?

That might be true because Can-I-Bus came out at time when hip hop changing and placing emphasis on gimmicks like being a thug and popping champagne riding in limos and going platinum so when Bis came out on some pure Emcee shit dropping scientific facts about universes n about his great skills it's like he came out too late. I hear you but don't use that as a safety net Canibus was well aware of what he was doing and what was about to happen and once 2nd Round K.O. released there was no turning back from it. You can't make a lethal diss record and say oh it's not fair because LL was mainstream and Canibus wasn't he was signed to Universal Records had a debut album. Canibus career was buzzing at that point so him being underground yes he was....but once he became famous in 1997 all that underground stuff goes out the window. Especially after his debut album and the uproar 2nd Round K.O. caused you're no longer considered a underground nothing his roots are there but he was famous enough by that point.

Well actually 2nd Round KO was a response to LL's verse on 4321. Far too often the narrative pushed is Canibus started the beef. LL started the beef and Canibus response buried LL. Ripper strikes back still isn't as good as second round KO. LL just used a bunch of corny lines and tried to flip canibus lines but nothing original was in that track.
