In this clip, Wyclef Jean talks about coming into the massive success he witnessed as a member of the Fugees. Coming off a lackluster debut album, the Fugees follow-up project garnered them worldwide acclaim with the album going diamond three times. Wyclef recalled feeling good about the project as they were recording and revealed that the smash single "Fu-Gee-La" was originally for Fat Joe.
Wyclef went into how the group's success and their relative youth played a big part in the tension that was building amongst its members. He points to having money and ego got in the way of their third album. Wyclef also talks about his romantic relationship with Lauryn Hill and how that impacted the group and their eventual disbanding.

He doesn’t seem to know how to bridge the gap of ‘being interviewed in person and trying to generate interest in the book’. It doesn’t work just by appearing on camera and saying “it’s all in the book”, and when celebrities want so badly to define their lives by their ‘book’, sometimes it’s because they don’t really want to be interviewed. He had time to write a book but somehow didn’t figure out how to ‘generate interest’ in the book with a good interview strategy. Vlad doesn’t seem like a good promoter, based on his videos.

I never cared for the fugees tbh, but I always got the sense that Wyclef was envious of Lauryn Hill, and couldn't handle the fact that she was "bigger" than him. A shame she never really did anything much after her first solo album.

A lot of hate and downplay of Wyclef and Pras’s contributions to the fugees. Lauryn is/was the best female emc we all know that but fugees was a collective effort and believe it or not Wyclef and Pras helped Lauryn shine by not being “as good” if that makes sense. I believe it helped to elevate Lauryn. “The Score” is a perfect album front to back. A classic with very little in comparison. When you listen you know there’s magic going on. That said Wyclef is an ass and screwed Haiti over big time. I’ll never get over that and don’t know how he shows his face. Him putting Lauryn’s dirty laundry out there makes me respect him even less.

And she was the best emcee in the group and of that time, her bars hit harder and made more sense then the other two, especially pras with his 8 bar verses... if the group was just clef and pras...
