Very nice. One tip: Store the lose screws on the magnetic camera base.

Fantastic job. I was able to follow this video disassemble my camera with no case damage. Plastic lens inside had a foggy film I cleaned it with some 91% alcohol and piece of cotton t-shirt.

Well thanks a lot for saying so!! Have fun repairing all kinds of things. But why would the camera not open? Definitely V1 or V2? Make sure it is orientated the right direction. Pause my video at the exact moment I show the recessed area of the case. Should just pop open if you know where those spots are. Good luck!!

Hey... my camera works again! Very thorough walkthrough. Easy to follow and the lens cleaned up great! Thanks. 😎 I live in the Philippines, so with our heat & humidity, inside... is pretty much outside. I put mine under cover, but out on the front and back porch (out of the direct weather but outside). So far only one got weird picture, but I got it used (from a friend) over 5 years ago - so not too shabby.

That’s good to hear. Thanks for sharing the feedback. All of my v1 and v2s were outside, but under cover and suffered some humidity damage, so this breakdown helped clean them up. I upgraded the units to v3 and moved the older ones to inside cameras.

Do you have a solar panel and battery for it? I have a setup I am working on that is going to put the Wyze Cam v3 in a wildlife area using a 12v battery and a charging panel.

The camera unit and lens assembly in the Wyze camera looks very much like some miniature cameras I have purchased on Ebay. Specifically, the lens mount appears to be the standard "S-mount" or "M12" which is a thread that's 12m OD x 0.5mm pitch. I've been thinking of getting a Wyze camera for a certain application, but I don't need a wide-angle lens. Can you comment?

As a matter of fact, I have some telephoto lenses in my Amazon cart right now that I a plan to get and swap out the wide angle. As far as I know, it is easily doable. And I agree...will make the Wyze cam much more useful in focused applications. Good luck!!

Greetings Drew. Thanks for this it was/is very helpful. Still struggling to "snap" the speaker assembly back in place. It just does not want to settle in place. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi Bill. Glad it helped. Double check the orientation. Sounds like it is rotated somehow. Or something else is out of place. Send me a picture (my firstlastname at gmail)

Thanks for the video but I now I can't connect to the camera 😅 I deleted it from the app but now the light stays blue and it does not want to reset

That’s is unfortunate. If you are talking about a V1/2, keep the parts in case you have another. Also, it’s modular. I have pulled the antenna for another use. But I would go ahead and upgrade to the new v4 at this point.

QUESTION: do you recall what size nut and bolt are used to connect the gray articulating arm to the white rotating camera base? I’ve lost the nut and can’t find any information. Otherwise, great video and explanation!!

Hi Drew Got the back off my Wyze 02 open thanks to your video. It fell on the floor and now there is only a solid yellow light and does not go to the "Ready to connect" stage. Is it repairable now I have the base off? It worked perfectly before falling on the floor. Appreciate any tips.

Well, having taken apart more than I have put together, I would say you have some spare parts. Fortunately for me, I teach technology so I keep the insides to show students. Good job trying though!

Amazing video! Have you experienced any wifi connecting issues/resolution happening with the v1 or v2?

Thanks. Yes, some wifi issues, but nothing that I didn’t attribute to entirely too many wifi devices…including more than a dozen Wyze cameras. Maybe the V3s are more reliable now that you mention it. I use an Netgear Orbi Mesh router that spreads out from house to barn, so I am pushing the signal pretty far and have been pretty forgiving. The cameras closer to the house do not drop like those in the barn.

Great video . I just can't figure out why the camera doesn't charge anymore . I cleaned the interior carefully , reassembled and still not charging . Any idea what is a common repair for not charging ? Thank you

Thanks for watching and for the feedback. I assume you tried another power cord? Any chance you have more than one of these older versions? I did lose a couple to the elements, but took parts from one and fixed another…including the power board which had gotten water damage. If another power cord does not work, I would say the power port or board is toast.

Well, this video is for the V2. But v2 is not an outdoor camera. V3 is the first outdoor rated version.

How can you tell if there's water damage?

Excessive moisture may show up as haze on the inside of the lens. Which is what I show how to clean in this video. Actual water may short out the board, or charging contacts. I had one with rust in the usb port and it would not power up.

@@DrewLoker Thank you so very much. In this case, there is some rust on the larger USB port but nowhere else. I think I should've capped it off because that looks like what did it.

There is no battery. So, the power to the unit has failed. This is why I had a spare to pull parts from.

I really want to like wyze cameras but my experience is that all cameras develop this image degradation over time. Its like pixelated image and purple color everywhere, not sure if I will ever buy them again.

I can appreciate the challenge. I guess part of the like is the economical solution to have lots of these. Years ago, before Wyze, these would have been $100 each. Wyze helped bring down the price point across the industry. I don’t think Wyze intended for us to put these outdoors, but at $20-25 (initially) it was very tempting. I put them upside down, inside boxes, in the barn, outside and around the house…and most have lasted just fine. And for the v3, they are all holding up nicely.

Nice video, thanks. Love my Wyze cams. The only thing about this video I didn’t care for was the annoying music in the background. I was like, “is the tv in the living room on?” A few times until I figured it out. Great content though.

Thanks for the feedback, especially about the audio. I used an Audio Ducking feature that automatically lowers the audio when I was talking. Not perfect, but given no music vs music, it is a tough choice. I definitely try to avoid too loud of background and frequently get annoyed with audio that is too loud in other videos. But I can see where any audio at all is a challenge. There is a setting that adjust it after the ducking, which I did use, but will review it more on the next video. :-)

Hi Bill, great video. Do you have a way to "reset" the eprom or whatever it might be on the WyzeCam v2 board so it will properly accept new firmware? Many, many people have had instances where the camera is "bricked" with a solid yellow light after doing a firmware update. Although there are instructions on how to re-flash them, when the update doesn't go well, it's not possible to move forward. I'm thinking there MUST be a way to reset or erase the corrupted firmware on the device so a fresh install can be done. Do you have any experience in this area for the V2's?

I do not. At this point, the newer Wyze cams are much better. In only used this repair to mix two broken v2 cams to make one operational…and then put it inside.
