This a full flight tutorial for the Rotate MD-80.
This tutorial has been created from a real Delta FCOM and FCTM and all procedures are as realistic as I could possibly get them.
That said, I am NOT a real pilot so this is in no way "professional" material.

Very useful! Really enjoyed this! I'll watch this again--I fly from KELP (El Paso Intl.) to KABQ (Albuquuerque Sunport). I have, so far, had lots of trouble with the VNAV and so forth. This is my "training" flight. Once I am more proficient and look forward to many flights on the MD-80! Thanks so much for this superb tutorial.

You just blew all of the other tutorials I found out of the water. Definitely, this is the best I've found. You are not only moving switches but explaining the reasoning for doing so. Just great. I will surely watch it many times to digest it and learn as I fly this wonderful plane.

Great job, I use to fly that plane a very long time ago and it’s been one of my favourite. I’m looking forward to seeing it on MSFS soon!

Tx for the videos, Matteo. I flew this plane quite a bit in 2019 and have sort of let it go since. As you said, too many planes! I admit being part of the "minimal setup" MD-88 pilots, but I'm really happy to see that you go into much more detail than all of the other MD-88 tutorials I've watched. It's a wonderful, complex and very immersive aircraft.

Thanks Gilles! I guess eventually I will streamline the cold and dark procedure, and I did manage to get it setup in 15 minutes after the issue with OBS, I just wanted to do this though to be aware of what I was skipping and why, it makes me much more confident with the whole procedure.

The part I liked best is your detailed explanation of the MD-88s autopilot system, which is not at all intuitive! So I think I'll take it out of the hangar and fire up the engines some more! 🤔🙂

Excellent. The only thing you didn't mention, or maybe I miss, is that when you activate the IAS/MACH vertical mode on the FGCP you have to be careful of the throttle because you can manage it manually thus changing the rate of descent/climb

Yes, but this was a good review for us computer pilots. A lot that I did not know and makes the whole thing more interesting - more workload as a lone pilot - which is fun. Good that you go through certain things so you know what is behind it. Just wondering where you can get those schematic pictures that you explain with. Have a good flight day.

Somewhere in the Internet there is a Delta FCOM and FCTM where you can get everything. 😊

It might be different in Europe, but you’re encouraged to leave the landing lights on below 10,000 feet in the US I know. Your tutorial I thought was excellent. Lots of stuff is not in the others, and also I thought the look at the schematics was really helpful to understand why you have to do certain things. What do you use to see PDFs inside of X-Plane?

Thank you very much for your kind comment. I am glad you found the tutorial helpful. In regards to the landing lights, there is indeed no rule for the lights with respects to 10.000 feet, they only need to be on for landing and takeoff. British Airways for example set them off just after flaps retraction and then on when established on LOC or GS, Pilot's choice. The PDF reader is called eBag.

@@matteochewie4373 I did a little bit more reading about this, and apparently it's an encouragement here, but most carriers' SOPs in the USA require it (ultimately at pilot's discretion, if there's a reason to do otherwise). Thanks for the tip on eBag; will make it easier to enter data. It seems the SimBrief format has changed significantly since you did this tutorial. I notice a lot of the information is not in the same place (like cruise wind); unless you choose a different format?

@@rynovoski I definitely used a different format in Simbrief. I sometimes use BAW, sometimes LIDO, or RYR or EZY.
