*This is a semi long post, sorry lol) I cannot tell you HOW incredibly helpful this tutorial has been. It's 3 am and i have been searching for a good tutorial like this for about 2 hours. I finally made ortho for my hometowns airport (CYYC) and i never knew where to add this (as in set up a directory for it to go in) and then i found it. Also the different zoom levels and in the end all the different tiles was so helpful. I've heard about ortho when i started playing XP but was told it takes forever, too complicated, too big etc and always put it off because of that. But recently ive been wanting to fly around and i wanted good scenery but couldn't find any for canada, but I figured might as well try ortho4xp.. whats the worse that can happen. But i'm glad i did, by far the MOST helpful tutorial out there, period. Thank you so much man all the best! Cheers (EDIT) I made a mistake with my hometown and the overlays did not download because when i clicked on the tile i made it didnt show red. it showed dark green and so i just gave up and i still have the ortho, just no overlays. The next city i wont do that mistake!

9:25 Something to note is that you have to select X-Plane 11/Global Scenery/X-Plane 11 Demo Areas for the areas of Seattle, Honolulu and Juneau, I was trying to follow this guide and couldn't make an overlay because of it. Otherwise great video!

You can change: Max_convert_slots to how many cores there is in your CPU. Fx if you have 6 cores in your CPU you can change the value to 6 for faster converts! Btw great video!

This is brilliant, thank you. I have been struggling to figure out custom zoom levels. Your idea of renaming the overlay folder is great too! I am making tiles for XP12 and I think the mesh source is interesting. Initially, I downloaded the HD Mesh commonly used for this and set it as the custom_overlay_src but I couldn't see much difference - perhaps I did it wrong. Then I tried using the XP mesh "...X-Plane 12/Global Scenery/X-Plane 12 Global Scenery" which worked fine and obvs saves the time and disk space used downloading an HD mesh. Finally, I tried leaving that field blank and although an error is shown, the tiles were made and (presumably) wrapped over the default mesh so it still works.

Very nice tuition, thanks you worke hard, however I am confused, Oscar Pilote did emphasise there would be no overlays folder in his binary download or even in ortho4XP V130. so I am amazed to see that you actuall got a folder in the route directory of ortho4XP. well done Charles UK.

This will probably never be replied to based on how old this is, but here goes nothing. I am following this to THE LETTER, exactly as directed, and am now at the same point in the video at 27:17 and i get a seemingly infinite - -> Making a copy of the original overlay DSF in tmp dir -> The original DSF is a 7z archive, uncompressing... And it never uncompresses whatever that is. Can't move forward due to this. Pleeeeeease help. I have had nothing but problems with this since 4 days ago when i started trying. This is the last chance i got. Then im uninstalling and going back to DCS for good. Please help!!!

Ortho4XP is a horrible half-baked unfinished bit of code, so tutorials like this are helpful in overcoming the clunky and old-fashioned experience

At 20:55 the base folder path is using backslashes. At 21:00 the base folder path changes to forward slashes. The backslashes did not work for me (the zOrtho... directory was never created). The log file shows a mix of forward and back slashes when writing the files. Very odd...

what if you dont do any of the extra zoom level stuff and just leave the zoom level in all entirety to 16?

When I search for "Photoscenery Autogen" I only find "Road and Autogen Textures for_Photoscenery 1.0.2" is this the same but maybe newer library?

I only have like 12 files and folders in my ortho for XP folder and when you open yours you have a lot and when I opened binary I don't even have an ortho4xp.exe can you help me clarify what's going on here thank you woody wow i found it

My default scenery gets vanised whilest doing this. i do exact same thing, with overlays above global airports etc. I have no city nothing, just a big freaking picture

Thanks for the video, but Ortho is still really complicated. Why couldn't this come in a prepackaged product you can buy? This makes me really look forward to Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020, where you get the whole planet's scenery included. XPlane should have Ortho in DLCs you can buy and just install ready to use. Austin Meyer dropped the ball on this aspect. Laminar should've built XPlane with Ortho already installed.

Great Video Ec Gadget :) , But When completing all your steps and when reached to the .ini file its didnt show what you had in your .ini file note ofcourse because it is the first time i install Ortho4xp , when i installed the airport and loaded it , it didnt show the images as it its suppose to be , any advices . Hi mate, I have the entire European continent installed in Ortho4xp:)...Had to buy a separate SSD and link it to Xplane 11 which is on a separate SSD. Absolutely love ortho, can't do without it now. What did I screw up? Everything is a 2D picture?

I went through a few tutorials and I always have the same problem. All buildings and other structures are flat, only 2D. An idea about why or what I could be doing wrong?

Not very good its does not work. the program does not create overlay folder and the explanation was terrible. Effectively your asking us to make a copy of the folder and call it what ? Or is just the files in the folder below earth nav data, terrain, textures etc that need to be copied? Very confusing
