Nice to hear, and that is my plan. It's not perfect though, despite the hefty investment. We'll have to see how it goes for a while. I think keeping a camera for that long is commendable, it really points to being grounded in what matters, so good on you!

I bought a D800 the very month they were available. It too was the most expensive camera I purchased. I used it until 2019. At that point I found a factory refurbished D810 and bought it. I was going to keep both cameras, but after a few months I decided I only need one of them. So I sold my D800. I expect tp keep the D810 till I’m pushing up daisies. After all that I do also have a Fujifilm system that includes an X-Pro3 and anX-T3. I also intend to keep these cameras for at least 20 years.

I had been shooting with Fuji X-Pro1. When the X-Pro2 was introduced, I bought one because it had two features that I liked: 1. Improved auto focus 2. Twin memory card slots The X-Pro3 has no additional features that I need. Therefore, I see no reason to “upgrade.”

is there a difference in colour science between 2 and 3? I switched from xpro1 to xt5 and I feel regret every day. Yes, autofocus is superior, yes the EVF is superior, but the magic isn't there. I look at my photos from xpro1 and xt5, especially nature and I pick the xpro1 every time. I was thinking about switching to xpro3 instead, but logic would dictate to wait for xpro4 with improved 'everything'. I wish xpro4 had no back screen at all, no video capabilities at all. I am tired of companies catering to the youtube 'content creators' crowd and shoehorning video functions to all cameras.

I personally love when new flagship models are announced. It is then that I jump on the model being replaced, usually at great savings. I own a Fujifilm X-T2 because the X-T3 was released and nobody (except people that actually do photography) wants last year's models. Same with my X-Pro2, bought new when the specs for the X-Pro3 were being plastered on all the Fuji-centric websites. The jumps in technology use to be epic and stunning, but things are so evolved now that new models are only slightly "better". You just aren't giving up much with last year's version and I saved hundreds on each new-in-the-box purchase.
@alidark3000
@alidark3000 2 жыл бұрын
Absolutely. I love hearing about people happily using older models, it tells me they're focussing on what matters I do feel a bit silly with the newer x-pro, but actually it's not that new right now, so the price difference between it and the 2 is only a couple of hundred. when it was released the difference was much higher. But yes great advice, unless there are very specific reasons to get the latest it makes total sense for most people to get the second or third latest. Those models have been time tested too, so you'll know more about what you're getting. for example my e-pro3 suffers from a well known shutter delay bug that only affects one photo in 30... The xpro3 will go down in history as the camera with the weird shutter. xpro2 won't!

Couldn't agree more! I purchased my X-T2 once they had stopped being stocked, went to my local Jessops at the time the very next day who had 2 left.. paid a grand total of £300 for the camera brand new and a 3 year warranty for £50 really don't see the point in buying the latest gear or even new gear at this point. I felt like I had won the lottery that deal and still do now considering mint examples still go for £400

Your point about deciding *what* you want to take photos of is such a good concept. It did lead me to actually buy a newer more expensive camera (the X100V, over having the X100F and X-Pro2) because of thinking about *what* I wanted to take photos of and how gave me very clear ideas about what goals a camera should fulfill. I came to the conclusion that I wanted to take photos in social situations (the rangefinders of X-Pro and X100 lines are good for that), I needed reasonable autofocus (X100F fails this, I actually tried it and struggled immensly to get shots at a party) but it should be small enough that it would be easy to take with me and be reasonably discreet. The X100V does all this. I sometimes wonder if it would have been cool to have say a a X-Pro3 (a much cooler camera imho!), but then I consider back to my goals for my camera and I see that it actually won't do those things. I've considered changing cameras so often, but now I finally ended up in a pretty stable place. I also have an X-Pro2 from previously which now has the role of being the 50mm f2 fitted tele lens to my X100V normal-wide event photo setup. And in all honesty, while the X100V ”fullfills” it's job as a everyday camera better than the X-Pro2, I have to say, X-Pro2 just feels kinda magical to use. It's easily the best camera Fuji has made in my book and I vastly prefer it to everything else, aside from size.

Ah yeah, autofocus was THE reason I was unhappy with my x100s. It failed me big time at my dad's wedding. the x100v on the other hand has GREATE face detection. I had the x100v and and xPro3 and while the xPro3 is cute as hell, it's not a camera that's easy to take around. I hope you keep your x100v for a long time and disregard the new shiny things that will come along. Jealous of your xPro2! Cameras are cool.

@@shockandrockets I was already bouncing between X100V and X-Pro2… and so… I liked the bigger OVF of the X100V compared to X-Pro2 (X-Pro3 one is bigger than both). I liked using my XF35mm f2 on my X-Pro2. It‘s my favorite lens and focal length. I like the overall handling of the X-Pro2 more than the X100V, except maybe that I liked being able to flip down the screen on the V. The X-Pro3 does that flip down even faster and easier. On both my X100V and X-Pro2 I hated that the LCD is shining brightly into my face (I only use the LCD for down low shots). Turning it off and on by cycling view modes is slow and clunky. The X-Pro3 does *exactly* what I want by default LCD for when I have low shots, but hidden otherwise. I liked how my X100V was shiny (silver in that case). The X-Pro3 had an option for an X-Pro style body that‘s also shiny. While I *love* that the X100V viewfinder is silent (and the flash sync speed is cool I guess), I ultimately hate that it‘s weird interaction with the aperture. Like how when you‘re at f2 you can't even use the full mechanical shutter speed of 1/4000th. With the X-Pro series I can *always* use the full shutter speed (and it goes to 1/8000th!). Just generally speaking the handling of X-Pro series, and espescially X-Pro3 series is just so lovely. The way I can easily rock the exposure compensation dial, how I have a big aperture ring grip compared to the dinky X100V. Very friendly to wearing heavy duty gloves! I also liked the dual card slot of the X-Pro2 and wanted that again. Nice peace of mind for important things, like shooting weddings. As for X-Pro2 only having a single magnification OVF… I think it‘s worth it for the *significantly* improved OVF of the X-Pro3. Also, I rarely shoot wider than 23mm and in those cases I think the OVF introduced too much parallax anyway. And for 50mm I think the X-Pro3 still works well enough for me at least. They‘re all great cameras though. If I had unlimited money I might want to have X100V, X-Pro2 *and* X-Pro3. As it stands I'll probably sell my X-Pro2 as well, and get another X-Pro3 so I have a pair of reliable cameras that I know well how to operate.

Thank you for the video. I had an X-Pro 1 used, which was my first Fujifilm camera. It was a good camera for the money at the time. The sensor was so close to analog film. Images were beautiful. But it was lacking in low light and the focus peaking, even after the additional firmware updates wasn't very good in the EVF. So I was able to get a X-Pro 2 during Covid-19. Paid under $1,400 for a new one. And it's still going strong. I call it blue collar Leica. I just couldn't afford the $2,000 price Tag of the X-Pro 3. Besides, I have my XT-3 that comparable to my Canon EOS 5D mk iii. Very satisfied with my Fujifilm system.

After years of only owning point-and-shoots and iPhones, I decided I wanted a proper camera that I knew I would be able to grow into. A camera beautiful enough that I would feel compelled to use it. I got an X-Pro 3 because of these things and because of the hidden screen! I take photos with a screen on my iPhone regularly, so I wanted my relationship to a camera to be all about the viewfinder. As a hobbyist stills shooter I'm content that the "upgrades" in new models are of little to no importance to my requirements, my only interest in the new releases is gauging how they will negatively impact the price of "older" models. Understanding the historical pricing trend of my favoured brand, Fuji, has allowed me with a little bit of patience to acquire great cameras like the X-Pro 2 & X100F for ridiculous prices compared to launch, ( at launch there was no way I could justify the outlay ). These are my flagships and I'm happy to stop at 24MP and watch these older models further depreciate so that any required future replacement won't break the bank.
