Xabi Alonso is a true maestro of the game.Though his touches may have been fewer, their impact was seismic. Alonso dictated the tempo of the game wherever he went, bending the match to his will and forcing the game to be played at his pace
Because despite being one of the slowest midfielders we’ve ever seen, Xabi Alonso is one of the most unpressable playmakers of all time - standing as a solid rock for his squad as both a shield and a weapon.
Today, we're going to look at Xabi Alonso’s career and remind you all of how great he really was.

The fact that Xabi averaged 0.6 dispossessions a game… on average the guy wouldn’t even lose the ball a single time. Truly unpressable. Leave a like if you enjoyed ❤️🙏 really supports the channel Also to all Bayer supporters, apologies I didn’t mean it that way 😂🙏 I meant more along the lines of they have a long way to go from where they were last season, but Xabi Alonso has what it takes

As a Liverpool fan, I'd like to mention that in his last season we finished 2nd, just a few points off the league title. The next season, without him, we finished 7th, not even that close to the CL places. Nothing else had really changed, we even had Torres fit for more of the season. But Alonso's influence was absolutely staggering. A complete boss in the midfield. We've never had anyone like him since.

Another staggering fact about Xabi Alonso: In his first Bundesliga match for Bayern, just a few days after joining them, he set a new Bundesliga record for the most ball contacts during a single match with 206 contacts. The record was broken a few years later by Julian Weigl but it's astonishing how Alonso was such a fixture in Bayern's game just a few days after joining them with so little time to practice with the team

He played a makelele role, 1000X better than the man himself. Bringing in abit of Beckham, scholes and ineista touches and passes. Massively underated due to who he played alongside. Just looking at the clips used in this video, he made things possible for Gerrard and Torres, then for ozil and Ronaldo. Then allowed ribery and robben to thrive the way they did. So many great players owe this man so much. His natural intelligence in the game means it's not over for him yet. As a manager we're going to hear allot of him, where he might get the credit he deserves. Just please Xabi, never go to Tottenham

He didn't play like Makelele, he didn't have the same defensive empire or the same pace to make sure the rest of the Midfield was offensive. Ps: If you mean that he played between the defense and the midfield line, it would be better to compare with Pirlo, Busquet, even Beckham at Real Madrid. Players similar to Makelele are Kante or Scott Parker

They were hitting 40m volley passes to each other, controlling with their chest, maybe taking a touch with the thigh, then banging a perfectly flighted pass back to the other guy. The ball didn't touch the ground for about 30 passes. It looked like they could've easily kept doing it all day. Absolutely incredible. I've never seen anything like it.

I went back to your vid just to mention, that you've been absolutely right. Look at Bayer leverkusens win streak now. Bundesliga champion, cup final and that's not the end I guess.

WOW! 👏🏾 I know him from Liverpool, I remember when he scored that insane goal from the middle of the pitch. This man was a nightmare when I still rooted for Arsenal, I ain’t gonna lie I was goddamn jealous 😭 I thank him for helping us get the World Cup, the only World Cup to remember 🙏🏾 I hope Mr Alonso sees this video. What a beautiful ode ❤️
