Otakon Finalist 2010 (Romance/Sentimental)
edit - 01.04.2011 I... don't really know what to say. I want to thank everyone for leaving such kind and lovely comments on this video, even after such a long time. It means a lot to me that you are sharing your feelings about this video, or personal experiences you've made. Be sure that I read them all and try to reply to most of them. This video is so important to me, that's why I also value every of the comments i receive even more than usual. Thank you.
---------
Original Description 03.02.2010
First of all I want to thank everyone who congratulated me to my birthday the day before yesterday. I was actually a bit depressed, but your lovely wishes and above all the two amazing gifts I received, cheered me up! Thank you, I love you all so much and I am so happy to have met you guys. Also everyone who didn't congratulate me: Don't worry about it, you couldn't possibly know when my birthday was, so it's alright ^^
This video is probably the most personal amv I will ever make. One of the reasons for me being a bit down is actually related to this video. It is dedicated to a very dear friend of mine, Patty, whose birthday it was yesterday. (yeah, only one day after me :3)
I know that she will never watch this video, nor will I tell her that I made it for her. I don't even know why I am writing this down here, probably it is my way of expressing my feelings, since I know I won't be able to keep it all inside.
When I heard this wonderful song for the first time, it felt like I was listening to our story. I cried countless tears over this song and this video, since it makes me realize how wrong everything went. I met Patty when I spent a school year abroad in Venezuela. We only got to spend some months together, but from the first moment on I felt like we had known each other our whole life, and I knew we shared a certain bond. She is one of the most important persons in my life, and I love her so much. As my best friend, my sister and my 'amiga de alma', my soulmate.
During this time in Venezuela I felt like without her... I would simply disappear and I know she felt the same way about me. I had a really, really hard time there, but she gave me strength. I don't know what would have been if I hadn't met her back then.
But everything comes to an end... The day I had to leave her on the airport... The day I returned to Germany and left her behind... was one of the worst days of my life. I had never cried that much in my whole life and it tore me apart.
Almost three years have passed since this day. She also came to Germany for one year, and we spent our 18th birthday together. It was wonderful, and so good to see her again. But ever since then I have had the feeling that we are chasing each other, unable to let go. But on the other hand I know there's no way it could be like it was before. She lives on the other side of the world, this is not a distance you can cross easily. It hurts so much that I don't know when I will see her again. It hurts so much that I can't be part of her life anymore, at least not how it used to be. In the end... I am bound by the memories I have of the time we spent together. I haven't talked to her in months. I know, I should call her. I know, I should write her and let her know how much she means to me. But I know I can't take it... only writing this description is so hard for me, I probably would burst into tears as soon as I hear her voice, just like on the first day back in Germany.I guess she was able to move on. Even if she still thinks of me as a good friend and someone she cherishes deeply... She probably doesn't feel as desperate as I do when thinking of her.
The concept of this video was nothing more than my feelings, this song, and the title I gave it. I believe 'Chain of Memories' fits very well. Not only to the song or 5 centimeters per second, but also to me. I don't know if I will ever be able to let go, but maybe this video helps me to make up my mind a bit.
Anyway, I don't care wether you read the description or wether you don't. After all it is a very personal matter. Just enjoy the video!

To say the truth this is the best movie I ever watched . The part when the second girl goes to propose to him but could not gather enough courage literally breaks my heart and she just accepts the fact and moves . The most depressing scene of this movie when Takiki and Akari after growing up walk on a street parallel to each other and when they turn a train comes between them and they just move on . If they had seen each other at that moment than this movie would have had a best and happy ending

I'm pretty sure they did see each other. Akari had already long moved on from the relationship they shared during their childhood years. She was engaged and ready to marry her now husband. However, unlike her, Takaki simply could not move on. The movie in general is about the theme of moving on from things, as also shown with Takaki's relationship with the other girl.

But that's how probability in real life works, it won't always end up on how someone expected it. Maybe someone important to you in the past that can maybe be with you just crossed each other's path on a road and barely recognize each other.

Very well written... Sometimes I wonder, Where would we be if I've taken a decision at that moment few years back? What if I've believed myself & had courage to speak? But, does it matter now? It's Past, You can't go back & That moment & Opportunity won't come again in Both of Your lives. So, let's move on. But, On a Lonely Sunday Evening.. that feeling creeps inside mind & feels you miserable.

She came to study abroad. We spent time together for a few months. Soon, she had to go back to Japan. At this time, I spoke no Japanese. I was left behind, here in Europe. I studied, I called her, she called me, we wanted to be together. About two and a half years later, we got married and now I am living together with her in Japan. Don't give up. We were in the same position as you. If you want something, work towards it! Everything may seem impossible, untill you start doing it. I learned this first hand. You can't start soon enough.

Never know why it's coming down, down, down Not ready to let go 'Cause then I'd never know What I could be missing But I'm missing way too much So when do I give up what I've been wishing for? I shot for the sky I'm stuck on the ground So why do I try, I know I'm gonna fall down I thought I could fly, so why did I drown? Never know why it's coming down, down, down Oh I am going down, down, down Can't find another way around And I don't want to hear the sound Of losing what I never found I shot for the sky I'm stuck on the ground So why do I try, I know I'm gonna fall down I thought I could fly, so why did I drown? I never know why it's coming down, down, down I shot for the sky I'm stuck on the ground So why do I try, I know I'm gonna fall down I thought I could fly, so why did I drown? I watched this amv 4 years ago and I remember my bf asked me what I was up to so I showed it to him. we were both teenagers living with abusive families at the time and we were lucky to have each other. I remember he said, "I get a bad feeling that will be us one day, and it's going to be so painful". I tried to encourage him it wouldn't but unfortunately we ended up separated by countries and our family situations just got worse. I wish more than anything to this day I could somehow just give him a hug but I'm scared when I get the chance it'll be too late for either of us.

Dear, thank you for sharing your story and I wish you all the strength in this situation. No matter what the future may bring, I hope you'll never regret your choices. However, also remember that sometimes, there's nothing we can do to change the outcome. Sometimes, we're powerless. And that will hurt and be painful, but it's part of growing up, and while doing so, we learn what is really important in life. We learn to let go and accept new beginnings and changes. That life ultimately is a path that continues on and will take different turns and twists but ultimately is one of infinite experiences. So while I wish all the best to you and your boyfriend, don't be stuck in the past, should it ever come to an end. Embrace the memories and moments you shared together, but don't let them hold you back. Much love to you!

Literally I finish school, then university, then get a job, then finally I had enough money to travel frecuently, and.. We're finally together, 9 years later. I'll never know why Its coming down, down, down. I shot for the sky I'm stuck on the ground So why do I try? I know I'm gonna fall down. I thought I could fly So why did I drown? The story is set in Japan beginning from the 1990s and ending in modern day, with each act centered on a boy named Takaki Tōno. The first act takes place during a time when cell phones are uncommon and email has not yet reached the general population. Act 1: Cherry Blossom Takaki Tōno quickly befriends Akari Shinohara when she transfers to his elementary school. They grow closer to each other due to similar interests and attitudes; for instance, they both prefer to stay inside during recess due to their seasonal allergies. As a result, they form a strong bond; they speak to each other using their given names without any form of honorifics, which is a sign of deep friendship and familiarity in Japan... Act 2: Cosmonaut Takaki is now in the third year of senior high in Tanegashima, where the Tanegashima Space Center is located. Kanae Sumida, a classmate of Takaki, had fallen in love with him ever since meeting him in middle school but does not have the courage to confess her feelings... Act 3: 5 Centimeters Per Second It is 2008. Takaki is now a computer programmer in Tokyo, and Akari is preparing to get married. Kanae is not strongly depicted in this segment. Takaki is still longing for Akari to the detriment of his lifestyle, which is acknowledged by an ex-girlfriend.. edit: thank you for the likes . anime: 5 centimeters per second

TSRsoul Genjitsu not sure im following. i’ll explain briefly my comment: i read the description, and i realized it has been 8 years since then, no update on the story. and wished they had moved on, past heartbreak, and longing. what did you mean exactly by moving up?

@@exoscalmfan191 good question. To move forward rather than to move upwards maybe? Like maybe the difference between someone who can forget there past and someone who is climbing the ranks of some kind of business. In reality I don't really know.

TSRsoul Genjitsu it seems we have different starting points. i get what you mean, and it can be applied to relationships as well. if i’d make an analogy for heartbreak in work-related field, it would probably be getting fired from ur current lovely job, or possibly not getting the job you wanted to badly. and to move from that could be moving upwards. anyways this was a stretch

I never know why it's coming down, down, down Not ready to let go Cause then I'd never know What I could be missing But I'm missing way too much So when do I give up, what I've been wishing for I shot for the sky I'm stuck on the ground So why do I try, I know I'm gonna fall down I thought I could fly, so why did I drown? I never know why it's coming down, down, down Oh I am going down, down, down I can't find another way around And I don't want to hear that sound, of losing what I never found I shot for the sky I'm stuck on the ground So why do I try, I know I'm gonna fall down I thought I could fly, so why did I drown? It took me years and a lot of crushed relationships, torn friendships and a lot more of Makoto Shinkais movies to finally understand the message of it all. HIs stuff rarely has a happy ending but it has nothing to do with a fucked up childhood. He pictures the world like it really is. Hard. Sometimes sweet, sometimes unpleasent. 5cm per second demonstrates how strong feelings are, and how love can put us through a lot of despair. But in the end, the one thing that counts, is living. The last scene shows, how they both were able to move on. Without regrets. And although the will never forget the love, the pain and their time together, it is not what defines them. They can go on. Most romances, especially in anime tend to show us, that the only right thing to do is chasing your feelings, chasing the only person who is the one for you. But this is not how life is. Don't chase after feelings that bring you down all the time, don't give yourself up for what seems to be a deserate attemt on holding on to what you love. Live.

I think you choose the right song and also anime to bring out the feelings you have. I cried even before reading the story. I realize it's been years since all this happend and I really hope you were able to overcome your pain. In my opinion 5cm per second is not a picture of a failed love. It just showes everything around one. When I watched it for the first time I was around 16, a pretty hopless romantic, searching for the one and only person to save me from this cold world. The suspense of the show nearly killed me and at the end I was so frustrated, I cried tears of anger. Why would anyone make a show so cruel? Just a couple of years ago I saw an AMV that contained just the first and the last scene of it. When the first scene came on screen, I got instantly angry again. To the anger of the past there was another frustration mixing in. The one of my own failed love stories, of the failed attempts to keep important people in my life against all odds and failing terribly. I lost so many people I loved, sometimes I lie and bed and have trouble recalling them, because my heart feels so heavy like it could stop beating any second, so I let go. But when the last scene came on, it suddenly hit me. After watching a lot other works of Makoto Shinkai, feeling conflicted about the never too happy endings, I finally understood what all this was about. 5 cm per second is not a show about chasing your love and failing. It's a show that shows you that life is not easy, and sometimes very better, and there always will be occasion where, no matter how hard you try, you can't hold on to the things you love. And it shows, that it is okay, to let go. It's human to feel pain, feel dispare, try your hardest not to lose what's important to you, but it can destroy you altogether. But it is also okay to finally let go and life your own lofe again. I think just like in the show, the girl was able to let go a little earlier. She didn't wait for the train to pass at the intercetion. Because she knew, him or not him, it would change nothing. She moved on. He waited. He was not sure. He wanted to know badly. But once he saw nobody waiting for him, he smiled. Like he was just reminded of a nostalgic happy memory. And then he moved on. The memory in his heart and his life ahead. I hope you found it in your power to move on as well. Wish you all the best from the bottom of my heart.

First of all, thank you for leaving such a long and heartfelt comment. I used to reply to all of the comments, but nowadays I get so many comments on this video that it's hard to keep up. Of course, I still read all of them, and I am thankful for each and every one of my viewers. But I wanted to give you an answer because it really touched me what you said as well. It seems like we do have a lot of things in common. I am a very emotional and sensitive person, and although I have matured and grown and see some things with different eyes, I am still a hopeless romantic at heart, even over 10 years after watching this movie and editing this video to it. As you have, I have lost many important people in my life, or better said, I was unable to find the strength to hold on to them when they pushed me away or we drifted apart. Wounds that I thought would never ever heal have finally started to fade, and even though I still carry some of these scars, I can think back wistfully and happily on the good memories. At least most of the time. So, what you said about viewing the movie with different eyes does make sense to me. However, to me this movie carries three important lessons about life, and they haven't changed to this day. Firstly, and this is reflected in this very video, it is about how we can be chained by our precious memories, and how they're both a blessing and a curse. Secondly, and I also made a video about that aspect of the movie, is that our choices define the future. The characters in this movie weren't brave enough to fight for their love and for their future. Sure, the circumstances were difficult, but they let chances pass by that COULD have made for a different outcome. Five years ago, when I edited 'Stray Tracks', this was what I firmly believed then: That we we don't regret our past mistakes as much as we regret and ponder about the things that we didn't do and thus 'could have been'. The song I used for that Stray Tracks has some beautiful lyrics that perfectly convey those feelings: "The hardest part of letting go Not easy to believe And sometimes you'll just never know Gets harder to perceive Suppose that we got older Suppose that we'd begin Suppose that I stopped running It could begin again Suppose in life we made it I'm never looking back Here's to the good times The bad times The times that could have been…" The third message of the movie is also reflected in the lyrics I just quoted, and is what you mentioned in your comment as well. It's 'letting go'. It is probably the hardest thing to do, at least for me, but I have tried to come to terms with the fact that sometimes it is the better and less painful alternative to being chained down forever. Who knows, maybe at some point I will also make a video about that final and third lesson to learn from the movie.Anyway, I thank you for taking your time to write me, and I would be curious to hear your thoughts about 'Stray Tracks' as well. I likewise wish you all the best!

But even if he call her on the Skype or messenger or anything on the social media, I don't think it's the same feeling when he meet her on reality because it's not the same feeling in reality he can hug her because he miss her or they even cry from their heart

I been in love with someone for over 10 years. Now I'm 19 years old and his 21 going for 22 years old. And I haven't been able to give up on him. and I already lost him and he never onces belong to me. I don't know what hurts more not being able to tell him, or not knowing if I miss the chance to meet someone great because of him. I really want to give up or just have the strength to tell him. This song really means so much to me, Thank you for the animation & it really fits the song perfectly♡

Mello Garcia same with me😢😢.. i love my crush over 9 years. sometime i couldn't let go this feelings. the more i try to forget the more i started to misss him. I wonder where he is now? did he have someone special?. i start realize after i read someone comment said like this "Its better you tell that person how you feel. better to face the hurt being reject than wait for someone too long. when you see back it just empty road." After that i start to regret that i didn't tell him. but i never regret that i love him.. it just i wonder what should i do next. forget him slowly and start new chapter of your life. btw i hope you meet the one you love and have courage to tell that person how you feel. Gud luck sis😊

+Kuchiki Mei dw too much about it , u just have to realise young love doesn't last that long anyways and you shouldn't take love to seriously at that age , and when I was your age I was in love with a girl and when she moved schools I still didn't stop loving her and it made me sad but overtime I forgot about her as I met new people and fell in love with another girl , just think , there are millions of people out there that are perfect for you and maybe someday you will find the right man for you. Try not to get urself down over it as your life aint over yet. :) remember to live your life to the fullest.

The thing I hope doesn’t happen to anyone is when you lose the person you love and you don’t forget them and start falling in love with the memories of the past and the moment you do, you have fully lost yourself and from then forgetting them would be impossible, you would imagine every possible moment and think of countless ways where it would’ve gone well and then ur lost.

This is my favorite amv in KZfaq. Every now and then, when I am feeling down, I return to it and read the description while listening to music. Your story is beautiful, and I feel the emotions through the text. I also have a similar story, I had a friend when I was a child and this year due to some circumstances I moved to Germany and first things first I met with him. How sad I was, when he couldn't even remember me clearly. That was the moment I realized, people come and leave and I should learn how to let go. Thank you once more for the amv and for sharing your story with us
