I had a Series S, and this is my experience. It definitely felt next gen. I came from a standard PS4 Slim. I played it on a 4K TCL 4Series HDR TV. It did a great job upscaling to 4k and the frame rate was a huge difference. For the price it's awesome. However, out of curiosity I upgraded to a Series X and Sony Bravia X85J 4k TV (120FPS). Either way it's a huge upgrade from Xbox One and PS4. You get a lot of machine for 299. Oddly, a used PS4 is basically the same price. It's a no brainer if you don't feel like spending at least 650 on a PS5 or Series X.

This sums it up great. I've just bought a series s as a "chill out" console for the living room. I have game pass on my gaming pc and the S. My pc is in another room with my ps5. But this is great for most casual games while I sit on the sofa or the kids play with it. Plus I can disconnect it and take it places in my backpack cuz it's so small. Love it.

The way the prices are on hardware and chip shortage and the Series S is actually more available, the value and portability makes S one of the best consoles out there

One of the best when there’s only 4 next gen . It’s probably the worst next gen console but it’s still decent if you’re a casual player that don’t care about graphics because it only supports 1440p not even 4k

We're talking about which console has a better performance and the Series S is definitely the worst next gen console out there in terms of performance and graphics. It's not a bad console but It's the worst out of all 4 next gen consoles. The PS5 is probably the best because of the exclusives and all of that. The PS5 is really easy to buy.....just subscribe to Twitter accounts that notify restocks and you'll get it in a month at most. The people who say the PS5 is hard to get just aren't trying to get it or are lazy. I won the argument you can head back to your tiny little white speaker none 4k supportive console...called the Xbox Series S. Goodbye.

I love my Series S. I do not think I will upgrade to the X anytime soon. I also love the portability. I usually play in the garage, but I can easily grab it and go into house if need be. It’s fast and graphics look great.

I set up my series S on my 1080p work monitor and it's a fantastic experience. I have a Samsung 65 inch the frame in the living room (pretty much a Q60) which supports 2.1 hdmi and I occasionally put the series s down there when my kids or wife are away or asleep. Honestly I don't see a huge difference with the 120fps vs the 60 fps (it's definitely nicer but marginally imo) and the 4k looks great but I actually prefer to game on my monitor being close to the screen. I think unless you are super hardcore and must have the absolute best thing, the S is more than worth it and easily the best value proposition. Even if you are picky you'll be getting anywhere from 90-99% the same experience depending on what game you are playing. There is some concern about future games being "too demanding" to play on the S but I honestly think as the base grows devs will have every incentive to optimize and get things running fine on the system. If you have a fast unlmited data connection the limited storage is mostly a non issue.

This is my experience with the XS, it sits along side my PS5 and PC with an RTX 2080ti, yet it doesn’t feel to far off them both. Yes the resolution is lower and you can notice it and the detail is definitely toned down and you can see that, but what it looses out in those areas it makes up for in the sense it can handle 120hz like the PS5 which depending on the game is far more important. For the price it’s amazing, and if you’re without a 4K TV it’s perfect. If this is your main console, I’d definitely say save up the extra £200 to get the Series X but to supplement a PC or PS5 it’s amazing.

I ended up buying a Series S from Game (UK) when they had a promotion on. You could get a Series S for £99 when trading in an old Xbox one /S, ended up trading in some old games and controllers as well and ended up paying £29 brilliant value

I have the PS5 digital the Xbox series X & S & i spend most time on the Series S, in my opinion its a great looking machine & suitable for most prospective buyers as most folk don't have the monitor\Tv to show the benefit of the more expensive more powerfull machines. In essence the Series S is fantastic value for money & a total game changing console.. I totally believe the S is best value for money love it. Xbox series S.

As someone who owns this console, its great, however I couldn't get rid of my gaming pc for this, I'm too big a fan of certain PC exclusives, but thats my personal thing. Only thing that annoys me is the small storage space. But I do have an external hard drive. Which mitigates most of that grievance

Good detailed review, and good job showing the differences in the consoles. I'm still using my XBox One, but when I can afford it, I'm probably going to go the XBox Series X route. I'm old school, and I like having a disk drive and purchasing physical copies of games. I just don't completely trust going all digital. Plus it does seem like there are serious storage limitations to the XBox Series S. I hate having to constantly uninstall and remove games. It is interesting that the you lose some functionality by playing games off of an external hard drive. Right now, most of my XBox One games are run off of a portable external hard disk drive. I also find it interesting that the XBox Series S has HDMI 2.1 ports but only comes with an HDMI 2.0 cable. Good review with a lot of good information. - XBox Series S

It makes sense to save a few cents by only giving the S a 2.0 cable, because while it is capable of 2.1 output, the weak GPU virtually guarantees no game will ever run at both 4k and 120fps on the S. At best, we've only seen 4k60 from some non-demanding indie titles. So there's no point in bundling a 2.1 cable. All Xbox One and older games can still be played off an external hard drive with no problems. It's only S/X-optimized titles that absolutely require the internal storage or the official expansion card, because they're written in a way that takes advantage of SSDs.

Brought a Series S because I was struggling to find a PS5 (always been PlayStation except for when I also had a X360) and just wanted to experience next gen albeit with a rival console. Decided I’d only use it for gamepass and save multi plats for when I eventually get a PS5 but after owning it for a few months I’ve actually brought at least 15 games and a few of those are games I already own on PS4 Pro due to the fps boost and auto HDR on some of them. Gotta say I absolutely love my little Series S, looks beautiful on my 55” C1 OLED and fully intend to upgrade to a Series X as well as a PS5. Microsoft did some real genius squeezing so much performance from such a little and relatively inexpensive box and is a great introduction to next gen (now current gen). Side note: you don’t need hdmi 2.1 for Series S, hdmi 2.1 is required for 120hz @ 4K (2160p) but the Series S can only do upto 120hz @ 2K (1440p).

I'm doing something similar. I'm using a small 65% keyboard (royal kludge G68) and Logitech G305 mouse. I use the Series S for productivity when I'm travelling by using the UpSpec gaming monitor which basically makes this console a laptop (flattop?). It's just a brilliant setup.

I love my series s because i had not a powerfull enough gaming device since ps2 and my school laptop and it also gave me oppertinuty to play games that are released recently flawlessly to my standards. When it comes to browsing experience 3 things annoy me most is whenevr i write something with my physical keyboard and mouse the onscreen keyboard automatically pop up and all i can do is press the B button on my controller to disable the onscreen keyboard, second thing is there is no support for browser extensions which includes all kinds of ad-blocking extensions and thirdly only one tab works at the time and whenever i switch tab it refreshes the tab which is so frustrating and i know that series s is powerfull enough to run multiple tabs at once.

I have a Series S that I got a few days ago and it’s great. I previously had an Xbox One S and I used it to play Xbox One games and digital Series S|X games. I never got anymore than 30fps on any of the games on the One S. It said my gaming monitors don’t support 4K or HDR but they do support native 1080P at 120fps when playing games and I can tell a huge difference even on digital Xbox One games. I remember being so excited because Far Cry 6 ran at 30fps and looked so bad on the One S. I could look at enemies spawning in through a sniper scope from far away the vehicles one second and then they’d instantly teleport inside and start driving when I got closer lol but it runs like an absolute champ on the Series S and looks so amazing. All games look better but the Series S|X games look the best.

Bought used series s from a friend for 165$ with 2 gamepads. I play more on xbox than my ps5. Small console with big possibilities game pass is nice and good tv will upscale every game to 4k.

Does quick resume only works with all digital + 1 disk game? Coz I think you can't quick resume if you played previously on disk and currently playing on disk as well. I presume you gonna insert back the previously played disk game to resume playing.

I got a 2 terabyte storage drive for Xmas so that solved all storage issues but you can only play series X/S games if it’s installed on the console not the hard drive

I got the series s on marketplace for $200 CDN, set it up with cheap lg 24” 144hz 1080p monitor with 1ms response time and it works well with warzone. You can tell the graphics aren’t as good as the series x but it is good enough for portable use for when I’m travelling.

If you can, buy a ps5 and dont sell your series s just have both, it is going to be enough to enjoy all the next gen without any problem.

For the controller the share button is not the only difference the d-pad and the joysticks are different than the Xbox One controller and the grip from the trigger feels a lot better than the Xbox One controller.

This console is perfect for the most of us imo...Is "cheap" and offer next gen performance with 120 fps in some games. Besides that, you can play at 60 fps almost every game and, trust me, i upgraded from the OG Xbox one to this and is like having a rocket compared to what I had. Plus, my favourite game is at 110/120 fps (is not fortnite, apex, warzone) so for me is just the best choice. Regarding the video quality, I have a 4k TV and i love It. I mostly play on 1440p 120hz because I need fps in my game but I tried the 4k and is really good😁

I am lucky to have an PS4 Pro, PS5 and a Switch. I play on the PS5 mainly. The Series S is so cheap so i have put an order on one to have something in my bedroom. It is crazy how cheap it is!

Xbox S looks so amazing and simple to me that I'm currently in process of selling my quite powerfull gaming laptop just to replace it with it. Long time since I've own a console so I've kinda miss that whole experience. Hope Xbox S will be good for many years to come.

I'm predominantly a PS gamer and that won't change. But the Series S seems like a great way to get access to game pass and play those Microsoft exclusives I'm missing without having to fork out for another full price next gen console!

I recently bought one myself, even the SSD is worth it. I came from an Xbox One 500gb so space management doesn't bother me. I don't care about resolutions much, 1080 downstairs, 720 upstairs. The S can knock that out at 60 fps with minimal issues on most games (well, 900p in a lot of cases). It's great value for what it is but in a year or two it'll start to really lag behind. However I do travel around a lot, so this thing will be sticking around.

You can emulate PS2 and any other retro games through the Xbox series S and X.

I had the Xbox X One , then the Series S, as i couldn't get the X, now i have the Series X and couldn't be happier...The S was ok, but the lack of CD-drawer on the S really pissed me off, as i buy 2nd hand games alot...I still use Game Pass too, but really only for Sniper Elite 5, Forza 5 and Microsoft Flight Simulator :-) Not really any other games on Game Pass i like :-(

Series X definitely is the preferred option, but this is a good budget alternative. I like the fact it can play the same games as the X so no restrictions.

You forgot to mention that a small but growing number of games actually support true 4k on the Series S. The Touryst, Mass Effect Legendary, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Crysis Remastered, etc are examples of this. I expect to see more less-demanding indie games fall into this category over time. 1440p is merely a recommended target from Microsoft and not the "maximum". In fact, the majority of AAA games actually don't even hit 1440p and are capped at 1080p with dynamic resolution scaling often causing drops below 1080.

La tuve más de 1 año, hasta que me hice de la Series X, la recomiendo muchisimo, es *rapida* , *confiable* (la tenia encendida 3 o 4 horas diarias), *barata* comparada con las otras consolas de nueva generacion, con muchas promociones para comprarla a meses sin intereses en fin que mas se le puede pedir.

I'm gaming with my PS4 and Xbox Series S But more with my Series S now since games peform and run far more better than the PS4. Also I got tons of games on my PS4 from over the years I first bought it as my first console going back into the gaming world since I took a lot of years off growing up as a kid. (bought my PS4 in 2019 it's still holding up well it now being 4 years old!)

I’ve been a PlayStation guy all my life but was fielding for a next gen console-and couldn’t find a PS5 anywhere for a reasonable price. Low and behold I see the Series S being sold at my local GameStop for $250. I bought it-and fuck man, I love it. The only things I don’t like as a PlayStation guy is the recording feature kinda sucks. You can only quick record minute long clips after the fact-and deleting them takes a lot more time than it should. Plus the fact that you can’t download certain games to your external drive is a bummer, you really have to bargain your internal storage. However, it’s…I mean it’s a next gen console. It’s quiet as hell, it feels good to play, games look so good, backwards compatability, gamepass ultimate is the well, ultimate feature for a new player, even in the store-and quick resume which is completely awesome to just jump from game to game in 3 seconds. I never would’ve touched it if not for the lack of availability with the PS5 but I’m really glad I did try it.

You always forget that the majority of PC gamers play on machines that don't have better hardware either. So I wouldn't take the whining of some game developers too seriously. It's all about avoiding tweaks and saving money. Ask those same developers why you've never heard these arguments about low-level PC hardware.

I've been watching a lot of Series S vs Series X videos lately while I tried to make up my mind on which to purchase. I eventually went with the Series X, because I have a 4K TV in my living room, but I'm still curious what others have to say, and continue watching the review videos. This is the first Series S video I've seen where the reviewer was honest about "If you have a 4K TV already, go with the Series X." Every other video on KZfaq says the Series S is still the better option.

Most AAA titles on Series X and PS5 are dynamic 4k/60 that hang around 1440p for the most part in performance modes and 4k/30 in quality modes. Series S is usually 1080p/60 performance - 1440p/30 in quality. It’s not a massive difference on a good 4k TV. Budget TVs Series X resolution will matter more but doesn’t look as good as a Series S on a good TV if that makes any sense. The TV is important is what I’m trying to say I guess lol

Hey I'm using also xbox series s i bought it almost 1 and half month I'm happy with it just i had problem with forza horizon 4 when i was playing the game started lagging so after i tried another games they were normal just forza horizon 4 was lagging and i don't know why🤷🤷 So i deleted 😅, but still i want to know why the game was lagging?

Series S video captures are never in sync with audio. Every video ive taken of a cool moment has 3 second delay sound and is a laggy mess

It’s a good machine they just need to lose the GREED factor on the storage that’s the only thing keeping me from calling this a slam dunk I play on a 4k tv on most games your hard pressed to see much of a difference

Here’s me little review of my Xbox Series S: It was a fun little console with a lot of power! But the lack of storage and lack of enticing Xbox exclusives made me bored of the console. I don’t think buying an Xbox Series X would have made a difference. But that’s just my opinion. I think you’ll love this console if you love Xbox Game Pass! 😁

Unless you have a tv or monitor that has 120hz, then it's the best all round. You won't even notice the difference in graphics unless you zoom in like comparison videos.

I know the series s has VERY VERY little storage but if you're going to be buying it with a little bit more extra spending money, you can get a 1TB ssd chip For "Extra Storage" they run around 100-200$ and they're well worth it. Just be sure where you get your Ssd's, Sometimes they can be a rip off. That solves the Storage issue

Actually its better to buy a series x instead of s if you're a hardcore gamer and storage is an issue. Because you get better specs for the same price that you spend for a series s + SSD expansion. Series s is much more suited for casual gamers since they can just install 2 or 3 games at a time and just uninstall and move on to the next once they're done.
