The way the kids in the harem were treated breaks my heart. They hardly ever got the opportunity to just be kids, and enjoy their childhoods to the fullest. I understand the need for lessons on their culture, history, and manners… but we hardly ever saw them being silly or even smiling from the bottom of their heart. 😭 Not to mention the way GROWN women (for the most part) targeted them for personal greed/selfish gains. Y’all can be cutthroat to each other but leave the kids and babies out of it.

What I dislike about this drama is that Ruyi has been unfairly treated, and nothing happens to the Empress when she has done evil things including the killing of royal babies.

It's even worst, she is rewarded with glory after death while Ruyi doesn't even have her own tomb.

@@maxr7527 true but ruyi did express freedom which is why the emperor left her with nothing in the world. She didn’t want this life

@@onceyouwheeinyoucantwheeout Yes I agree, but I can't help but feel that is still hypocrisy from the palace. Even though the Emperor and the dowager know it is poetic to "free" ruyi by not burying her as her rank; they still let the world outside the palace think she was a bad empress/person by not giving the proper funeral. As a viewer I feel, the 'generosity" of letting her go is too little, too late, it is unjust. But I know Ruyi wouldn't care and that is why she is better than me, such a beautiful character

They got to match it to history somehow. And also, in the show, Ruyi's family does not have a big backing in government while Fuca's family have many high ranking officials. This is also one of the reason Qianlong picked Ruyi to be his empress. He hates been used or forced to turn a blind eye. Ruyi does not have a strong family backing and she does not have any children she can use against him.

She lost all her male children and died painfully and hated by her husband. And that doesn't include the fact that she was never happy as an empress, always craintive and stressed, and didn't get the chance to see her daugther before dying. That sounds like a punition to me.

How can Langhua be an Empress and she is always stressed about everything ? Like ma'am you're the empress. Ruyi cannot and doesn't want to do anything to you. If she wanted, she could've killed you since the days you were in the prince manor together

Could happen like with Empress Xiaojingxian (Ruyi’s aunt). Empress does her job, Emperor favors consort more, Empress gets confined to her palace after she angers the emperor (somehow?) and Emperor makes the favored consort the manager of the harem and essentially the de facto empress, and in the end the favored consort’s son becomes emperor. And with Ruyi adopting the eldest son and Langhua running herself and her son ragged trying to be perfect, I wouldn’t be surprised if a repeat of history happened.

Well the emperor was not that bad after all.. He gave Ruyi yikun palace.. He also made her the empress.. Gave her high titles even though she didn't had a child.. Yet there was more that ruyi was compromised .. Doesn't seems a good idea when all she wanted was to live a happy life with her yonglian.. Also xianxian got away from all the miseries she caused . But ruyi was blamed again n again by the emperor for each n every fault for her.. I find that xiaxian was a better queen.. Cause she knew how to use her power.. She knew who to backbite n who to support. . She was more elegant ..

The Emperor made a mistake by favoring Ruyi too much. He already let her adopt Yong Huang. He didn't have to let her take care of Lady Yi. He should have let the Empress of Gui Fei be responsible. They wouldn't have dared to kill the baby under their own watch. There needs to be a balance of power.

Emperor never force Ruyi to raise Yong Huang, the boy was allowed to make a choice among the three women who will be his foster mother and the boy chose Ruyi and that was how he was adopted and he now approved it so there was no favoritism
