[XP11 60FPS] I lost 300lbs (136kg) & now I'm learning to fly! Road to PPL, Ep. 1 - Sim vs Real Life.

So, after 10 years of being unable to fly due to my weight issues, I've now lost over 300lbs and have started to learn to fly for real! In this video I explain exactly the process I am going to take and also how I plan to integrate the sim videos with the real life videos.
I am training at Liverpool (EGGP/LPL) at a flying school called Merseyflight. I fly a PA28 Cherokee, G-ASSW and G-BSLU

Good stuff and best wishes, I also learned to fly on the PA28 140,albeit in the 70s, didn't think there would be any still around. Make sure you get an endorsemment on the Arrow at some stage -constant speed prop/retracts, good for touring. FYI I was taught to taxi with mixture full rich (Australia)

Congrats Matt! Welcome back to the air. I really hope you enjoy your lessons and don't worry too much about the recording thing. Just focus on learning and safety, everything else is secondary. You were asking about why it says mixture lean for taxi. Well, it has to do with the engine spark plugs mostly. When your taxing with low rpm's and your mixture is rich you may end up with unburned fuel gunking up your spark plugs, leaning the mixture helps to prevent this phenomenon. If during your run up one of your magnetos dropped too many rpm's or the difference between the two was too high, you may have done an "engine cleaning" (Don't know how it's really called in English, basically you throttle up to 2000 rpm or more, lean the mixture and keep it running in this configuration for about 1min). If after that your magneto check was ok, then you should lean your mixture more during taxing.

You'll definetely love learning to fly. I took my ultralight license at the age of 47, and it was one of my dreams come true since I was a kid. About filming & instructors, I understand they don't want you distracted from flying. My advice: get a kind of camera you can put and turn on even before starting the walkaround so you can forget about it until you finish your flight. If you got it recorded, hurra! if not, don't worry, it will get recorded another day. You will do a lot, maybe hundreds, of touch & goes before you're ready for your checkride.
