Come and join Cubbee and CK on our everyday real life ATV Moto Vlogging X'LeNt Adventures.
Our regular quad rides are a 2011 Yamaha Grizzly 700 EPS and a 2011 Yamaha Kodiak 450 SE EPS. On weekends, we usually can be found exploring the back woods of North Western Ontario on wheels or tracks.
I suppose this is more like a mini-movie, a little longer, but we had lots to cram in there!
Off for a road trip! About an hour and a half ride to where we unloaded the Yamaha's. We were planning on going for a visit up on top of Sioux Mountain. To our surprise, we found out that Pete McLeod of the Red Bull Aeronautic team was going to be putting on a show with his plane, over the beach in Sioux Lookout. Just so happens, that would be right across the bay from where we would be!
Just start in on our adventure when we come across approximately 25 young girls walking down the trail in the middle of nowhere! I kid you not! lol They stopped us and warned that the road was washed out pretty bad up ahead. Sounded like a challenge for us so we soldiered on!
Where we parked our truck was near where Sam Lake NORAD base, CFS Sioux Lookout was located. It was in use from about 1953 to 1987. Apparently it was quite the place, I will put links below to a story about this place and about the legend of Sioux Mountain. Also a link to Pete McLeod.
Hope you enjoy the ride and the awesome scenery!

Dude, I think you had the PERFECT DAY! Sunny, quad-ing with a lovely female companion on her own machine. Meeting up with a bevy of babes, catching a private air show, and watching a train go by. Finding a scary place, no accidents, everyone safe. I could not imagine a better day!!!! Thanks for sharing.

Great video thanks for sharing it. I am 76 now, retired from the RCAF living just north of toronto. Sioux Lookout was my home from 1946 to 1962 . We lived on the Forestry base just out of town as Dad was a radio technician and kept the main transmitter going plus the forestry aircraft radios working. I could write a book on my experiences growing up there. Dad and I always played duets on the piano when the town had its yearly get together and every one put on a little performance. I pitched hard ball for the Blues baseball team. Went to the public school down town and then to the new high school from grade 9 to 12. Fought forest fire in the summer months to make a little cash. Had a little orchestra in my teen age years and one new years eve gave my dad Ross Keenan and the rest of the guys in the town dance band a break when we played for the new years eve dance at the new hall, forgot the name of it. Moved from Sioux to Sault (ste Marie) in 1962 where I joined the RCAF and that was the beginning of another career for 21 years. Then on retirement opened up a music store in Barrie for another 19 years. You video from sioux mountain brought back a lot of memories. Used to play for dances at the radar base too. Loved to fish at a little unnamed lake just below the base I guess. From the forestry base used to take my little boat and motor or sometimes a canoe and head west and under the Frog Rapids bridge, (another story there when we flipped the canoe over in the middle of it ) across pelican lake to the west side where we would go thru the weeded entrance into the little lake (think we called it raft lake) and catch some of the biggest northern pike I ever saw. Once out fighting forest fire, i caught a huge northern pike. I was the radio man at that fire and found out that dad was coming out to our base camp to bring some radios for communications, and said he could take my fish back and have it weighed at Atwoods comsumers grocery store so I could enter it in the winnipeg free press fishing contest. That did come about, and I won the fishing derby for the largest pike. lol. It weighed in at 32 pounds i think. Maybe some day might get back to see how the old town looks. Thanks again for the view of the town from the mountain. Oh darn, one more story if I may. At one forest fire i was on, they told me to go to town and go with Gordy Norel a norseman pilot and help him to take the stuff to the fire. He picked me up at the beach in town. The norseman was loaded. As he taxied to the far end of the lake, that bridge as you drove into town, forgot the name, he told me to get to the back of the aircraft and hang on. If we dont make it over the iron bridge, we might have to fly under it!! I watched as the bridge approached, and we were hardly off the water. By some miracle we cleared the bridge by about 10 feet, and i crawled up to the front of the plane and sat in the next to Gordy. We laughed, hey we made it! Bye for now. Ken Keenan

Canadian here, from B.C., and have ridden for many years, where initially it was for hunting purposes, and then hunting and exploring the mountain areas here in our wonderful Province! Have ridden Utah 3 times, and will be going again this spring, as the Moab region is stunning, with far more trails to ride than you can get to in a week. We've ridden other areas of Utah as well, as it has a lot of history, and we've seen some beautiful areas. Rode in about 50 miles west off the Alaska highway a few years back, and spent two weeks in the wilderness riding the many old trap lines into some stunning regions. One lake is a turquoise color, but it's many hours of riding to get there. Crows nest area of Alberta has some beautiful rides, as do some of the areas of the coastline out of Vancouver. Since it's time for something new, we've decided after getting back from two weeks in Utah again this spring, this summer we're heading to the Yukon and Alaska....so that should be stunning as well I'm sure!

You had a group of friendly walkers there. sometimes we come across so called "Nature Freaks" who if it where up to them, everyone would live off pine needles and wear leaves for clothes. they get so uptight about motorized vehicles that the one or two complaints they call in, end up shutting riding areas down. All i have to say is, lets see them walk to some of the beautiful spots you've shown here. Looks like i'm going to have to make a trip to Ontario next summer!

***** hehe... if you don't mind fast running currents and worrying about a train coming then it's fine... I crossed the bridge when I was 11 and my daughter did it when she was 10. There's a little story to that building you guys found. Don't think you'd like to hear it, but the building itself was a generator room from what I been told when I was a kid. It housed controls and generated some power for the base. I will look into it more.
