Yamaha Stryker Ride & Review... Beginners Can't Handle The Power?

There aren't tons of options when it comes to factory custom choppers. Luckily, for those chopper fans out there, Yamaha offered the 1300 Stryker for a few years and plenty can still be found on the used market. Today I'm taking the 2013 Yamaha Stryker 1300 for a test ride to see what the bike is all about. In addition to covering some of the basic specs and details, we'll also discuss how it stacks up to its counter parts and whether or not it's a good option for beginner riders. Enjoy!

Hi Jon, I just got this bike YESTERDAY ! I went for a ride on my new to me 2001 Honda Shadow Spirit 750 with windshield, and bags that I bought three weeks ago as my first bike (in 25 years). It felt FAST at 40 mph, and I am NOT used to leaning into the wind, but I bought the Honda because it sits SO LOW to the ground and I have knee arthritis. Also, I saw it on Cycle Trader and the seller was on the other side of town. He had also invested $2,000 in safety, tires, etc. It was as new as a used bike can be from a super responsible seller who is retiring from riding. He delivered the bike to my house which was a HUGE deal because I was terrified to ride. It was meant to be than it worked out like that and the seller was so receptive and calm with me. I also looked at the Yamaha Stryker which sat just as low, but I was too intimidated by it. It was WAY to big for me as a newbie. I am SO grateful I went the route I did and learned on the 750. I had it in the back of my mind, "WHAT IF..." Yesterday I had the nerve to ride the 30 miles or so to the dealership on the Honda to see the Stryker as I had it set in my mind that the next morning I would take the venture and ride there. I sat on it and it felt great. I was not allowed to test ride it, but I was allowed to fire it up and I did test the friction zone which was right there when you ease a little tension. I told the salesman you only live once and let's run the numbers with no cash, just the bike as trade. I did NOT think I would be approved, but 15 minutes later he said I was approved. I said, "Let's Do It." I am SO grateful I took my time as a TERRIFIED newby for the first two weeks on the Honda. I absolutely LOVE the Yamaha Stryker. It is hands down the best bike I've ever owned. I've owned all the Interceptors, a Sportster, CB750, and so on. The Stryker sticks like glue to the road no matter how windy it is, there is SO much power that a former sports bike rider will approve, and it's comfy. Not to mention in the first five minutes some kid on a BMX bike said he LOVES my bike. I love my Hondas, and I own a Kawasaki Vulcan Classic 1500 that's in the shop. That bike RULES, but so does the Stryker. I LOVE the Stryker. Sorry about the word diareha and good luck with you new less bike future. - Mike in CA

Bro, just picked up one of these as a first bike and it's all thanks to you. Thank you for letting me know this is ok for a beginner and your videos do inspire me....best tip I've got from you is never get cocky, did my first ride on first and second gear today and felt a little intimated but ill run back to your channel as needed to keep rolling. This was my first motorcycle and can confirm the 1st to 2nd gear was annoying at first but you get use to it. Overall it's a beautiful bike and can be intimidating for newer riders. Just have to take it easy and practice.

This was my first motorcycle. I had mine hypercharged. They sound great with a cobra two in exhaust. It was all around fun bike.

@sam.abadyah No I don't have it. I get rid of it only because I have limited storage space. It was my first motorcycle. I moved up to my dream bike. So I had to sell it to make space.

Love my Stryker, every Stryker needs the Ivan flash done to the ECU. Really opens it up and fixes low end chugging

@@eliterolo Flash the ecu. Ivans is a performance company where you send the ecu to have it remapped. It fixes a lot of the issue the factory engineers are forced to put into the bike for emissions sake.

I was looking at one of theses when I first wanted to start riding ended up with a 83 honda v45 magna and then the Victory Gunner came out that was my first new purchase of a any vehicle ugh I miss( totalled it 😢) gonna start looking again great video

Love my Stryker- Full stage 1 (intake, exhaust, custom tune) as well as a 30 tooth pulley. I walk away from 114 Harleys (stock) no problem. Wish it had a 6th gear, but otherwise no complaints. Put a 240 rear on it, and it handles like a dream... can really flick it for a cruiser. I scrape all day long on mine, but I ride very aggressive. Ivan's custom tune completely fixes all the 1st and 2nd gear issues, and just makes it so much better in every way (the performance gain is pretty damn substantial).

@@TheDankh yeah and I have a warrior with a 31t sprocket. Big air kit. 2 into 1 pipe with a tune. Still gonna buy a Harley. Can work them way more. Our bikes are limited.

Get a Raider. You won't regret it. I have a 2011 and it was the only bike out there that made me walk away from sportbikes/ naked bikes. The Raider has everything that makes me smile. Comfort, sound, torque and it looks amazing. And they're reliable. Watched a video where a guy has 113,000 miles on his Raider.

Same here. Rode a vstar 650 and 1100 for years, wanted a Stryker until Jon's Raider videos and found a nice one. I throw that bastard around like it's a 650, hasn't bitten me in the ass yet.

Dude gotta disagree. Like your vids but unless your a huge dude and a fast leaner this is not a Beginner bike. I had this and my neighbor had the fury. Unless you just wanted the looks of the Honda....the Yamaha killed it in every way. Fury is limited electronically top speed and first gear crap. My stryker would drag pegs and do sweet smoking launches.

After growing up on the old RD series bikes, and then growing into the XS1100 and V-Max, I just find the newer V twins just horribly disappointing. Yamaha owned Daytona for 14 years till Honda cried to much. This just sucks!
