Nothing beats Japanese bikes in terms of reliability.

I went to a dealer looking to trade my Panigale on a GS. Then I found a super ten brand new for less than 1/2 the price. Insurance was also cheaper. With the cost savings I managed to keep both bikes!I left the dealer straight to a mountain pass where I had seen only dirt and dual sport bikes before. I love my superten, it takes me everywhere with confidence, speed, comfort and never broke on me. Sure its big and heavy, but thats what makes it good on road. After I put shinko 805 tires I take it to places even the dual sporters hesitate. Don't overthink, just get one and go have fun!

I bought one in 2011. One of the very first in the market. I did everything with it, off road, on road turning all over Europe in every corner. Raced it against any on off bike on the road today. I put a power commander V, a racing filter and a Yoshimura exhaust. This bike is going like new! Unbelievable! It is a tank on 2 wheels. No issues at all. Only one battery changed so far (I am using an Optimate III battery conditioner) oil motorex 10-50W, oil filters Yamaha original every 6k kilometers.

I live on a farm in South Africa. I ride about 80 % of the time off road. Hand guards help keep the branches off the hands in thick bush. Nothing on the Supe10 is purely for looks. It has been designed as an all rounder. Most of the guys I ride with also ride in the dirt. Dont knock it till you try it.

I think it is a much better buy then the GS. In Edmonton Canada the BMW GS adventure is $31,000 out the door with panniers while I just bought a 2019 Yamaha Super Tenere ES for $18,000 out the door price. I can get 500 km or 310 miles out of a tank on the highway. I'm 6ft with a 34' inseam and I can flat foot the bike no problem. My previous bike was a 2014 Vstrom 1000. The Tenere is very comfortable, the electronics work great and are easy to use (I love the Electronic Suspension), you get Yamaha reliability and it's a great value for the money. Ride safe

Man, ANYTHING is better than BMWs. I am 65 and since I was 17, rode Yamahas or Hondas. In 2004 I bought a R1150RT brand new. At the moment it is doing 68,000kms. Oh ! All kinds of things went bad. Fuel pump, ABS module, water in headlight from day 1, twice broken muffler bracket, crumbling wire looms, fell out taillight ending crushed by the rear wheel, very clunky gearbox (tractor-trailer drivers hear when you change gears !) and more. I hardly ride it anymore. POS as far as I am concerned. In my experience with bikes and cars..............There is NOTHING comparable with the Japanese machine ! Trinidad & Tobago.

I own both a 2018 R1200 GSA and a 2015 S10 ES. I love both bikes. Hard for me to say which one I'd rather keep if I could only have one. The BMW has more features but on an adventure bike all I care about is ABS, cruise control, and EFI. If I was doing a world-wide adventure tour, the S10 would be the one I'd use. There's another video of an S10 owner that gave up his R1200 GSA for the S10. He has no regrets so far and don't think I would either.

I live on a farm with a gravel road to town for 10kms. In 3 years of ownership I've never had a an issue with my Super 10, they breeze over the dirt with Shinko 705 tyres.

Yes, we ride this bike in the woods, on trails, gravel, sand, rocks - you name it))) With stock handguards. And it's actually Super tenere 1200 and not a simple tenere. The old generation has some little flows but in general it's a very capable and reliable.

Tenere is one of the best motorcycle that Yamaha has ever built. Not great at anything but good at everything !

I get around 250 miles, and sometimes more if I ride well on the open road, on a tank of gas. It does have ABS. Adjust your lights. They are actually very effective. You get around 40 miles on reserve

I don't think your battery is shot- that is the way they start, though I understand a larger battery will fit. You should have mentioned the model year- you are reviewing an older version of the bike. And your math is off about the range. But you are right about the value and reliability.

I'm about to own a new one from the dealer, I was comparing all out the market and after too much research even with its gaps the super tenere still is the most reliable bike, I don't mind about fancy electronics rather I prefer reliability and simplicity, also I have been Yamaha guy so maybe I'm falling into confirmation bias but yes I feel confident about my buy instead of the GS which is great but I don't trust them as much as yamaha

I have one of these and I can tell you, if you install an ABS killswitch, it is a very capable off road bike...yes I have dropped it as well and although it is heavy, it has surprisingly good leverage when picking up. To the critique points you mention in the video about cable lengths and dash buttons. You have the DP01 pre 2014...DP04 post 2014 have a different dash and the menu buttons are on the left handle...not to the cable lengths...Yamaha did this so you can install risers without having to extend cables - at least from DP04 onwards. It is a very very reliable and capable bike. 👍🏼 I love it!

Take Yamaha XT1200 Super Tenére over any other brand for: 1) Proven reliability. 2) Plenty of power. Economic @ 45mpg. 3) Great range for the back country. 4) Well priced. 5) Loaded with great features like speed control & other electronic features.. 6) Tubeless.. Puncture... Plug & inflate.. Off you go. 7) Awesome adjustable suspension. 8) Easy to accessorize. 9) Shaft drive! No pain in the ass chain. 10) Most comfortable bike I've owned. You cannot make a mistake buying this bike, albeit that BMW & KTM are the darlings of the media.

I love the analog tach. If I cant get a large uncluttered color TFT then analog dials work great because you can read them at a glance through your peripheral vision. The Ten is one of the few bikes I can deal with since I'm older and my knees cant tolerate much bending over long periods and it's not too tall.

I take my S10 off-road. Not single track, but fire roads and sometimes even more aggressive mountains and it kicks ass.

I've see people taking this bike on dirtbike tougher tracks or trails it do good but big adventure bikes aren't for trails because they are heavy which makes it hard to control but if the trail comes it can do good

The hand guards are not meant to be Bark Busters, but they do provide protection from the wind and rain. IMO, a 19" wheel is the perfect compromise for an ADV bike. 21" is better suited for dual purpose, and a 17" is not very capable off-road. 19" is the perfect balance.

Fabulous bike i owned 1 for 4 yrs and miss it i got over 200miles to the tank no bother sometimes 240 that was cruising around smaller roads like any bike if you hit the highway or motorway and sit at 90mph your gonna drink fuel big time.

Handguards are great in rain... And suck on the hottest day of summer. Apart from any crash protection etc.

How deep in water it can travel if we need to cross any water streem or flooded road not to dangerous life threatening in pakstan northrn areas their is most of time we need to go throug water streems clear water but cant imagine how deep it is

In September 2011 I bought "Fat Bastard II" brand new and I still have it. It has covered 70 000 problem-free km and is good for much, much more. Ave fuel consumption varies between 18 - 20 km/ l, with a caring right wrist. But I have experienced 13.5 km/l, sitting at 5 500 rpm in top, into a head wind, for a distance of 400 km (with panniers fitted). Tank holds 23 litres - you do the sums. The ST was the first adventure bike, fitted with ABS that actually WORKS ON OFF-ROAD SURFACES. This system has saved my ass on a few occasions already. No, with "only" 112 bhp and a lack of modern instrumentation (tft screen), the ST falls short against more modern competition. However, on the gravel, all have the same power and in this aspect the ST does not stand back for anything else. In nearly 10 years of ownership I have come to experience absolute reliability, economical maintainance costs, superb comfort over long distances (even with two up) and superb off-road capabilities. What more do I need? Oh, and the battery is still the original one that the bike came with. And so are the brake pads, front and rear.

I have owned my Super Tenere since 2013 new. . I have had to do a couple of repairs. Reply to me if your bike turns over and doesn't start. I can save you hours of trouble shooting.

I turned mine into a dirtbike and take it offroad regularly. I trashed the rear final drive on it, rebuilt it and bought a used spare on ebay for $200. Try that with a BMW.

More failures on gs? Ofcause there are sooooo many more of them around the world rolling!

I'm :58 seconds into your video and I'm already wondering why... I have a 2016 Tenere and have dropped it, off road, in CO, UT, SD, AL, and NC without damaging the handguards. I've smashed trees and dropped it on rock without issue. It's not predominantly a touring bike! The Tenere is very capable and it's Caveman simple. 7:19 "I think it's traction control"... You're reviewing a motorcycle and haven't even taken the time to learn the bike???!!! At least you're wearing gear... 10:38 "Does this have ABS?" You don't know?.... Groan... The headlights can be adjusted.... You know that; right? Why am I subjecting myself to watching this whole video? Suspension... Do you know how to set sag and adjust properly? 33 mpg! yikes, not good

GS is a road bike on weekend only...but Harley does that far better. Never take GS to full adventure trip...NEVER! You will be stranded in the middle of nowhere. Ducati...even worse (My business partner's Multistrada gave up in the middle of Death Valley trip...he was lucky that other members of group pulled him out). KTM is getting a bit better. But none comes even close to Yamaha, Honda, and Suzuki's adventure bike reliability (I'm talking about above 1000CC).

Its the most reliable and to my eyes 10 times better than a GS since its a yamaha and not a unreliable with no repair center bmw. You can find a yamaha repair center in the middle of the jungle. Oh wow. Why all the whining. It's not in the shop like a BMW, HARLEY, KTM (KEEP THE MECHANIC).. Also 55.5 mpg and you aren't getting 200 miles. That's because you sit and start and stop start and stop sitting and whine about an amazing bike. I have an 06 Venture and it get 34 mpg and I'm happy. So stop sitting and whining about your bike that won't break down, carries anything anywhere and just stop go ride and enjoy it.
