As Doug Black said you are awesome. I have watched 3 of your videos so far. The way you talk,work and use the graphics it's as if you spent years on the Yamaha production floor in Japan. Wondering if this is your video personality of you yell and curse when things don't work..? You are a pro that's for sure.Your videos make all of us better mechanics. Thanks

My T7 should be here in the next few weeks. Heated grips are on my modification list. I’m told these Yamaha grips are no longer available so I’ll need to find another supplier.

Hello, thank you for the video. Do you have the link for the grip extensions?

I’ve read several comments from people saying that the Yamaha factory heated grips are near as powerful and warm as the Oxford heated grips or ODI. Do you think this is because they don’t know you can program them with higher settings? I like the tractor Yamaha switch because it’s integrated into the handlebars instead of an aftermarket one that sits up high that’s prone to damage.

Think you are correct regarding the programming of the Yamaha heated grips. I have my grips set to the middle of the three programable heat settings, and in cold weather I only have two green LEDs lit - medium setting there too - while riding in 5 °C/40 °F. In other words - the grips are in my case warm enough! 🙂 Also love that the grips have an integrated design!

Thank you. Can you confirm that under the left side panel there is one 3 pin aux connector and under the right side panel there is both a 3 pin and a 2 pin, is this correct?
@orbsurfer81953 жыл бұрын
Yes, that is correct. I am using all three connectors! :-)

Hi Orbsurfer, first thanks for the useful info. I have a little problem on my X-Max 400 with the same grip heater. After pressing the button after a few seconds all three led are flashing five times. Do you know what this mean?
@orbsurfer81953 жыл бұрын
I do not know, but it might be low voltage or that the alternator is not able to supply enough amps. When I turn on my heated grips, they turn on at max power; i.e. three lights on. When you turn on the heated grips, put them in the lowest setting, then try with two lights on; i.e. the middle setting. If no flashing leds, you might just have to program the grips for a lower output. There are three different output modes, that mainly changes the max output. On some of the forums people who have measured the actual amperage draw on the Yamaha heated grips, states that the wattage used for both heated grips is much higher than the wattage stated in the manual. More like 6 amps. 6 amps x 12 volt = 72 watts..., the instructions states 22 watts, but that might be 22 watts per grip = 44 watts for two grips? Who knows? Good Luck!

@@orbsurfer8195 That's exactly what i was thinking. But i'm not able to change the settings, the Led's on the heater only flashing after pressing the button and nothing more ... I need to find a way to reset it to default or something like that.

I would like to know your opinion on the perfomance of the Yamaha OEM heated grips.
@orbsurfer81953 жыл бұрын
I love the grips! No problem riding in 40 degrees F/ 5 degrees C with these grips. When buying the Yamaha OEM Heated Grips, also buy the Heated Grip Connector Cable, Yamaha part number: BC6-H253L-00. It makes installation easier, and the heated grips can be connected to one of the two electrical auxiliary connections (one connector per side) located under the painted panels up front.

What kind of glue did you use?
@orbsurfer81953 жыл бұрын
3M Rubber and Vinyl 80 Spray Adhesive. The glue has held up well and the grips have never slipped.

Would have been nice to see how you connected the wires. 😄

I will connect the wires to the original connector located under the left side panel and make a video.

@@orbsurfer8195 hi there just a quick question should there be any play on the accelerator grip once installed
@orbsurfer81953 жыл бұрын
According to the Service Manual there should be 3-5 mm of free play on the throttle grip when you twist the grip; i.e. a little slack on the cables. There is an adjustment screw and nut on the engine side of the throttle cable.

What is the benefit of programming it to the lowest? My partner has these on her MT-07 and complains they are barely warm on the highest setting. I'm thinking maybe it's on the wrong mode, I think it's currently on mode 3.
@orbsurfer81952 жыл бұрын
The grips comes with three different programmable heat settings - different from the three green leds on the grip itself - the benefit is that the lower settings use less power - the settings is really meant for different displacement bikes, because a small cc bike has a smaller alternator than a large cc bike - I think I am using the middle setting and never have had any issues with driving in 5 degree Celsius/40 degree Fahrenheit with only two leds lit up + winter gloves. I will take the bike to Norway - there I will need all three leds (highest setting) lit up in addition to winter gloves and will probably reprogram it to the highest setting! :-)

@@orbsurfer8195 really not sure why hers don't get that hot on mode 3 and setting 3... Maybe we got a dud pair?
@Millermk4 Жыл бұрын
Mine do the same, on the highest program setting as shown in the video and barely get hot enough to cope with 10 degrees Celsius in the UK. Strange!
