Riksfjord Racing - The Yamaha TZ 250 T is a full factory racing bike used in GP year 1987. Aluminum deltabox frame with monoshock suspension. Parallel twin, two stroke engine.Two 35mm flat slide Mikuni rejetted carburators, rearward facing. Reed valves with 6 petals. Electrically driven power valves. Exhaust leaving through the front of the cylinder bank. Assembly is done after a total overhaul. Replaced bearings, crankshaft, clutch and piston. Made with sound of Yamaha racing. Motorcycle build. This is a rebuild after teardown video, not a how to.

Back in the 80s I ran a TZ350 G top end, carbs, expansions, grafted on an RD350 bottom end on the road, the whole lot new including carbs was bought for £200! Yes it had a kick start and a wet clutch. The clutch had beefy springs and a very hard life, the engine actually kicked up and often would tickover. I monoshocked the frame made my own electronic ignition and water pump and fitted TZ body work in Kenny Roberts Yellow and Black....... Fast? urm yea nuts would pass almost anything and on any twisty road it was mental, it ran Castrol R, well had to be done ......this sound track ......memories.........made the commute to work truly epic, sold it to a guy in Madley. If your out there and still alive lol message me.

Awesome...brings back so many memories...I grew up on two wheelers and earned two AMA Expert Licenses in the early 70's in 125cc and 250cc Motocross and was about to hang up my racing boots in '75 when I was a Sr. in H.S. and prepare for Engineering College when my sponsor (Island Yamaha in Merritt Island, Fl.) asked me if I'd like to do some practice laps on a TZ-250 (B) and depending on how it went possibly campaign it for half a season in '75. We went to Sebring and I was one of two other riders to run practice laps and I had the fastest laps (the other riders had road race experience and I did not) so I got a free ride for several races in '75...including Daytona, where I ran in 3 different prelim races and placed 5th in the amateur 250cc final...and had the distinct privilege of being passed by a certain Mr. Roberts on his TZ-700/750 during open practice.

your right on with engines like these with only 3 moving parts they become quite complicated an extremely high technical Marvels that are internally supercharged making boost when they come on the pipe but it wasn't until Kenny Roberts riding for Yamaha showed up with two crankshaft geared together was not one not two not three but four individual YZ125 cylinders and heads loaded on top of those two crankshaft gear together for a full displacement at 500cc was making 400 horsepower per liter

Love those two strokes. Lots of folks don't realize how much horsepower they produce. Ok, they're down on torque, so what. When you're on the back straight in top gear pushing past 12,000 r.p.m. at 150 m.p.h.+ with only 250 c.c., that's really something!😎

I attended MMI in Phoenix back in 2001-02 and the Yamaha class had a TZ250 that Yamaha had given the school. It was a complete and running bike.....well, until one of the Yamaha instructors kept ripping it up and down deer valley road on the back wheel!! So the bike was retired to just being on display in. The classroom and to make sure no one would be tempted to take it for a ride again, administration made him take off the carbs and let admin have them. So the carbs were kept locked up in an office! LoL! It was a cool bike though!

I remember back when the water cooled 250’s first came out I was at Barney’s Cycle Sales in St Petersburg Fla getting some parts for a Yamaha R5 I had and one of the sales guys that worked there had dropped his 350 racer and needed a new radiator. He showed me the radiator,and the box it came in weighed more than the radiator did. It must have been magnesium because it weighed nothing! These bikes are amazing. Too bad Yamaha doesn’t make them any more.

This is amazing good work. wish i had a garage like that and bikes like that. Loved the video, especially when i saw the Norwegian flag :) Helt fantastisk bra jobbet med den yamahaen.

I really couldve used you guys around when I was replacing the eccentric bolt on my banshee 350 shifter...had a hard time figuring out the correct reassembly and proper adjustment for the clutch rod and had to take it apart multiple times to re-adjust, breaking the tab off on the clutch basket lock washers and idler gear sir clip in the process..was a pure headache but great learning experience for a non-mechanic like myself and she's now ripping through the trails again..2 stroke twins are mythical beasts but I sure dont know why they didnt put a powervalve on the 350 banshee because I'm pretty sure the rd350 has one
@linus2910
@linus2910 5 жыл бұрын
No powervalve, possibly less power on low rew. Quite a few racers prefer powervalve fully open.
@dr.hugog.hackenbush9443
@dr.hugog.hackenbush9443 5 жыл бұрын
Plus it would be more expensive to make. This basic engine configuration has been around since '67 or so, so falling back on their 30+ years of experience when making the Banshee engine, they has to please the bean counters. Besides, how often do you lug around on a Banshee? They arent even awake untill 5,000 rpm, so a powervalve would be useless.
