I couldn't find a single video on this fake Vance & Hines Short Shots knockoff exhaust, so I decided to buy it, give it a shot and post it online. This also doubles as a tutorial to taking off your stock exhaust on the Yamaha XV535 and XV400.
I am enjoying the sound, but I can definitely feel a bit of a loss of power. Since it's a cruiser bike, I really don't care about that at all, but I thought I'd mention it. Perhaps with a re-tune of the carbs, some of that could be recovered.

Thanks! In person, after riding it around for about two weeks, I'd say it sounds a bit too... sharp, perhaps? Like it lacks a bit of bass. Sounds a bit too treble-y or hollow. I can't find the right words. But basically it's a straight pipe and I feel like it would benefit from some subtle baffling to bring some bass into the mix. The volume is fine though, it's really not bad!

@@ViragoRob what do you think of these ones ? i like the thickness of the pipe walls, and how they look like a balanced set. Not a fan of staggered.

Nice video. I like the sound you got with them. I have virago xvs 535 from 2002, and sounds quite weak in my opinion. Cheers!

Have you tried adjusting the Fuel jets on the Carburettors first, before you change the jets, sometimes you can get away with just adjusting one screw on each Carb - which allows more or less petrol into each of the Carbs, Tuning of the Carbs will finish the job off nicely There is plenty of youtube videos out there on Carb Tuning of the XV 535 and you can do it yourself, That is what I did !! Thanks for the advice! I didn't want to tinker with it myself, honestly, because I don't have any experience with them. I was planning on taking it to a professional, but then ended up having a minor accident that damaged the exhaust (among other things). I ended up fixing the bike and now I have Black Widow exhausts on it. I have to say, the Black Widows are worth the money! They sound a lot better than the Amazon exhaust! The Amazon exhaust only had treble, the Black Widow has the BASS! Definitely recommend those! And the best thing is, with the Black Widow, you don't need to adjust your carbs! So in the end I was happy that I didn't touch the carbs because with the new exhaust it runs like factory new 🎉🎉

== 4 month exhaust update == - I thought the exhaust had baffles but the silver end pieces are just decorations, I don't think they do any kind of baffling. Also, they don't stay silver for long, they got coated black by my exhaust pretty quickly, and scrubbing them back to silver doesn't last very long at all before they turn black again - At low revs it sounds great in my opinion, but when you get into the higher revs (5th gear above 90-100kph) it sounds like it has a bit of an extra resonance to it which isn't too apparent at first but if you ride on the highway at the same speeds / RPM for a while, it can get a bit buzzy and annoying - For being a straight pipe, it's really not that loud at all. My friends with sportbikes are way waaay louder even with a sports muffler on - The paint on the exhaust isn't great quality. The front side of the front exhaust pipe, where it gets the hottest, has a large brown spot where the paint has evaporated (?) and surface rust has formed. If you get this exhaust, make sure to spray an extra few layers of heat resistant paint on before installing it - The bike will need a re-tune for sure, 100%. I lost a bunch of power after installing the exhaust, the fueling needs to be adjusted (carbs need rejetting)

Mooie nieuwe uitlaat, past goed bij de set-up van je Virago! Mooi geluid ook! Je hebt toevallig geen video of tips voor het verwijderen van de dempers op de originele uitlaat? Of je doet die van jou toevallig niet weg voor een goed bod? Veel plezier! Grt Daan

Dank je wel Daan! Helaas heb ik daar geen tips voor, ik heb de motor gekocht met de originele uitlaat al debaffled. Er zijn wel videos van op YT, ik heb al een paar gevonden, deze lijkt een goeie te zijn: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/jZmHfJRjv9rSemg.html Ik moet wel zeggen, met deze uitlaat is het half en half genieten; af en toe ben ik echt een fan en af en toe stoor ik me eraan. Op lage toeren klinkt het heel rowdy en lekker, op hogere toeren klinkt het wat hol en die holle resonantie kan wat vermoeiend zijn op de snelweg... gelukkig doe ik er niet veel langer km's mee. In elk geval, ben ik wel aan het overwegen om de stock uitlaat nog een kans te geven dus ik wil het nog niet verkopen. Ik wens je verder nog heel veel succes toe met je bike!

Hey sorry for the late reply, those were just standard handlebars that were on there when I bought the bike, nothing special! No idea what it is brand-wise...

Yeah it definitely felt like the bike lost a bit of power but I never ended up radjusting the carburetors. I had a little accident in which the exhaust got damaged so I ended up going for Black Widow exhausts instead and the bike sounded better and regained the lost power. I don't recommend this exhaust, get the Black Widow instead!
