first of all great video and good description of the bike. after an extensive research, after numerous hours of watching videos and trying out different bikes i decided to buy the Diversion without even testing it. last week i tried a TDM, Hornet and a Bandit, having in mind that i am on the tall side, 192 cm to be precise, i realized that non of these suites me. TDM is like a horse, hornets and fazers are too agressive for riding around town and the bandits sitting position is kind of off balance. i bought a 2009 1 owner bike with 30k kilometers, without a single scratch, perfect service history and tons of extras. i sat on the bike and fell in love with it. its such an easy rider, comfortable, strong but still the mechanics are set up so well that you can be driving 50 km/h in all gears and the bike behaves the same. it is just amazing. i was scared that it would be too small but in my opinion its perfect for riders of all hights. it is a well tuned machine that puts a smile on my face regardless of how and where i am riding it. i would suggest this bike to anyone who wants something enjoyable without the fear of ripping your face off when you squees the throtle, still the acceleration is superb, very smooth with more than enough power for anything. all in all thanks for a good review and this is my honest opinion about this bike. begining thoughts were that its going to be a season bike that i would flip soon but now i am thinking that its a family member thats not going anywhere.

Really old video, but I just bought an XJ6N 2013. And while watching the video i noticed that I used to ride that road with rental 125cc's when in my apartment in Fuengirola :) Nice video! You should start vlogging again :D

Had one of these for 2 years. 100% agree with everything you've said, somewhat miss it as I had zero fear riding the bike, just so easy to ride and get familiar with but then I love the extra oomph and toys that have come with my VFR 800 VTEC that I replaced it with.

I've doubt I'll feel the same when I upgrade, it's served me brilliantly this bike.

Great road test. I hope you are enjoying your Tracer as much as you appeared to enjoy this bike. Ride safe.

Thanks for the review. I just got my license and test rode a 2010 yesterday. I liked it but felt a bit hot at a stoplight even though I was out only for half an hour maybe? Also felt like it missed a top gear, but as you explained the ratio is short. I still want to try an Mt and tracer even though I kind of decided that those are over budget for a first bike when I don't even know what I want to use it for :)

I found the fairing does kind of chuck some of the radiator’s heat back at you, and the saddle gets a little warm when it’s a hot day. You are sat on an engine though ultimately, hard to avoid in the summer, but welcome in the winter! Absolutely needs longer overdrive gear, if sixth stepped things down 1-2k revs it’d be ideal.

Low gearing seems to be a characteristic of 600s, my Hornet does about 6000RPM at 70MPH. It's quite a peaky engine, though, so higher RPM is better for overtaking :p

Mine runs out of revs though, I can hit the redline in top so it could definitely do with some much longer gearing!

Very good reviews on this bike mate. I've been looking at one of these for my first 'big' bike. I'm around your height 6'1ish and figure I should be reasonably comfortable. Gorgeous road btw. Must visit Spain. I'm also (originally) from Somerset, was cool to see the Gorge in your other review. Cheers, hope you enjoy your new bike.

Thanks for sharing. One question - what you use to clean it and for chain maintenance? Thanks.
@Chrus600
@Chrus600 4 жыл бұрын
I've tended to use just a normal car detergent (TurtleWax or something similar) with a rinse before and after. I've cleaned the chain precisely once and I can't remember what with. I use Silkolene chain lube, the white anti-fling stuff. I use WD-40 to clean off the wheels.

Was considering a Tracer myself, but upon looking into it a bit more, the Z1000SX makes more sense. It's better than the Tracer in almost every way. Having traction control as standard, only 4mpg less than the tracer but almost 30bhp more, and the throttle is incredibly smooth, whereas the Tracer is still touted as having a snatchy throttle even after they remapped the bike. This is of course all my own opinion, but for just another grand, you get a lot more bike I think.
@Chrus600

I didn't really like the Z1000SX when I sat on it, I think it looks gorgeous though. The Tracer does have traction control as standard though, plus I really want a triple. They're both excellent bikes in their own right, so obviously opinions will differ!
@IGCNightmare
@IGCNightmare 9 жыл бұрын
Ah didn't know the Tracer had traction as standard. Still yet to test ride one so could only go on reviews and they didn't mention that. Can't find any Tracers to test ride as they're selling out as soon as the dealerships get them in. ¬¬ That's where we differ, I prefer the front end of the tracer, I think the front end of the Z1000SX is ugly lol But the rear looks gorgeous. If you put the screen of the Z1000SX down to it's lowest setting it takes on the look of a proper sports bike which makes it look better but the indicators I'm not particularly a fan of.

IGCNightmare Tell me about it, I'm getting the first Tracer to be registered in Gibraltar though! :D Yeah I'm not a fan of those indicators either, I'm all for flush mounts but they stick out weirdly.

Chrus600 Yea I'm the same. I love the look of the GSXR for it's built in rear indicators and the integrated mirror indicators on the front. I think it just makes it look a lot cleaner and smoother. Also the Kawasaki indicators, even on the ZXR models, just wobble around. Makes the bike look cheap and tacky in my opnion.

Just bought one of these, and now am pleased I have, would like that rack, did you get it direct from Yamaha ?
@Chrus600
@Chrus600 3 жыл бұрын
Yeah, any Yamaha dealer should be able to get it - it comes in silver as well as black. Word of caution, the anodised black paint came away underneath and since has been flaking on the upper side. Don't know if it's from chips from road muck, but not ideal!

Fuck! 60mpg...my 690 got just over 50mpg. The SDR is whole different ballgame, 35mpg if I'm bloody lucky. Took off half the rubber on the rear tyre last weekend in Wales :/ You'll need to get used inhaling consumables with the Tracer xD LOL on spanking an R1 on the Cat xD Nice review dude!

I've heard of some people getting much less though, seems my riding style suits my XJ6! Yeah, that's the one thing I'm not looking forward to; shredded rear tyres and more fuel...but fuel costs 76p a litre here atm ;D

What luggage rack is that ?
@Chrus600
@Chrus600 2 жыл бұрын
It’s the official Yamaha top box rack, with the Givi V35 pannier racks. I wouldn’t recommend the Yamaha rack as its anodised paint flaked off in a bad way from underneath to the upper, visible side.

Chrus600, your reviews were a reason I bought a XJ6. I agree about the gearing and vibey past 6k revs. reassuring its common & not a fault with my bike, thanks for making that point.

So how is the bike ? Good for 6 footer ? Handling well? Maxspeed?
@Chrus600
@Chrus600 5 жыл бұрын
@@bawangbikers6962 Will be personal opinion size-wise. I find it just about okay, but I think you have to be content with a relatively bent knee, but it makes it very easy to push about while in the saddle. As for speed, you'll get about 120mph out of it before hitting redline, so longer ratios will help there. It handles as well as any middleweight; neutral, unthreatening but able to turn quite well. Main limiting factor is the footpeg position, they drag fairly easily.
