As with all of our products, we are extremely thorough with our development and testing. In this video, we dial in the final jetting settings for different exhaust combinations. We did this so we could confidently sell the kit with the correct jets to those of you who have different exhaust set-ups.
The kit can be purchased here: www.jadusmotorcycleparts.com/...
If you have any questions about the testing or the kit, hit us up in the comments!
Cheers,
Jake @ Jadus
*Edit: I said SAE HP is 4% more than DIN HP (PS). This is incorrect, it is actually 1.4% more. Still, the point is not to get caught up in numbers! Improvements in percentages from a baseline is what we want!

Thank you, this was really helpful. I've got debaffled stock exhaust right now, and I've ordered a set of drag pipes. It does pop a lot and jerks (especially when cold) when cruising on low rpm at steady throttle. And that's already with the stock exhaust. I better get ordering some new jets.

Maaaate thanks so much for doing all this testing work and putting such a great vid together , you've just saved me £100 which I can now get your kit with. I was going to get the BW full system but looking at those improvements it's the drag pipes all the way now. Massive thumbs up to you guys 👍👍 Thanks again 🤙

Thanks mate! Yeah, the drag pipes together with our intake kit really surprised us! Nice to see how the power lifted everywhere without inducing too much of a low rpm torque dip!

Those BW drag pipes sound great too, I was expecting them to be much louder, which had put me off them, but I reckon they'll be perfect for the custom build I'm having done on my '98 535. I'll send you some pics and a link to Dale's website when the bike's finished; if you wouldn't mind putting them up on your site for him? Thanks again 👍🤙

You guys are legends. I haven't been able to find anyone who has dyno'd BW drag pipes and I looked for a while before giving up. Looks like I'm gonna have to grab that performance kit. Me and a bud are gonna drag to see who wins verses a ace shadow 750!

Too bad I haven't heard about this while it was in development. I do the same mod on all my carburated bikes. One thing I would also try is to slot the pickup coil to advance the timing 2°/3° or maybe 4°. That should complement these mods pretty nicely and I think a significant increase can be found once again for free.

Great video! If I want to debaffle mine, do I need to modify anything else on the bike besides just removing the baffles? Like is there a risk of anything breaking with this mod?

Is there any easy and practical way to make the gearing taller on these? Some owners say there's plenty of low torque to support interstate speeds but it revs high above 60 mph.
@JadusMotorcycleParts
@JadusMotorcycleParts 3 жыл бұрын
Another good question! Short answer: no, there is no simple way. Not that we are aware of at least. Although there are certainly people who have managed to swap out the internal rear shaft gearing from another bike but we can't find any good documentation on this. There is one other trick though... If you can find a tyre that has a larger diameter than stock, you will effectively increase your gearing. We have actually laced up an 18'' rear rim with a 130-90 tyre and will be testing that soon. Hopefully, top speed will increase and therefor, cruising speed rpms will be reduced.

I was close to buying an '82 Vision which had over 60 (claimed) horsepower with a very similar v-twin engine size. I wonder how they squeezed out so much more power? (like 50% more)
@JadusMotorcycleParts
@JadusMotorcycleParts 3 жыл бұрын
Good question! Two things right away... Liquid cooling and higher revving - those are recipes for a higher engine output. If you look at the torque figures, they perform very similarly and the XV535's torque peak is 2500rpm lower than the Vision. So the engine designers have tried to achieve quite different goals with the bikes :)

@JadusMotorcycleParts

Hi Ashely, yepp, kit is still available on our webshop and we ship globally. We recommend either debaffled stock exhaust or the Black Widow drag pipes - that is because we have tested those on the dyno and they gave a nice power increase!

How can the performance be so much worse by changing from a standard steel exhaust with collector box to an exhaust that has no collector box and is made of stainless steel? Both of those things should make it better, or at worst just not improve by much you would think?
@JadusMotorcycleParts
@JadusMotorcycleParts Жыл бұрын
Yamaha engineers spent a lot of time optimising the original system, so the flow of the primary pipes to the collector is not very restricted. Then the silencer has a lot of volume, so there is not a huge restriction there either. This aftermarket system may have better flow in the primary pipes, but the silencers are a terrible 'interference' design which reduces noise yes, but also kills gas flow. As mentioned in the video, the aftermarket system is nice from a cosmetic standpoint (yes, stainless, very nice) but not from a performance standpoint.
@brian100pd
@brian100pd Жыл бұрын
@@JadusMotorcycleParts I see. What are your views on the new improved version which they specify has been "Upgraded in 2022 to unleash your Virago to its highest potential" and have "Improved gas flow with deeper tone." Quotes taken from their website. The silencers are removable in the new version, but I suppose they used similar marketing for the version you tested which showed it in fact did not improve gas flow or unleash your Virago to its highest potential. If the silencers are the problem and they are removable on the new version do you think there is hope for it?

@@brian100pd Good question. I could speculate here but I won't because I see no reason why they could not just do a dyno test and back their statements up with numbers. You could reach out to them and ask them!
@brian100pd
@brian100pd Жыл бұрын
@@JadusMotorcycleParts I have actually contacted them already with a much more simple query and they weren't able to give any useful information, so as much as id like some information on their exhaust systems and not just empty statements saying "its great", i'm certain there's no point in asking them for it. If the development of the system involved anything more than "make a pipe that fits the bike" then like you, I cant see why they wouldn't share some of that info in their advertising to boost sales. Maybe the fact that your dyno testing showed it to be worse than the original answers that.
@JadusMotorcycleParts
@JadusMotorcycleParts Жыл бұрын
@@brian100pd Most likely! Dyno testing is time consuming and expensive, and doesn't always show the results you want/were hoping for! On another note, their drag pipes work quite well, but maybe that was a fluke ;) At least we at Jadus did some testing with it!

Is not the carb venturi size the most significant restriction on power increase?
@JadusMotorcycleParts
@JadusMotorcycleParts 3 жыл бұрын
In some cases with some engines yes. But in most cases, a performance intake system and exhaust system is enough to yield very significant power gains. When increasing carb venturi size you you increase flow potential at high rpm yes, but you also loose air velocity at low rpm and therefore have a weaker vacuum signal through the carb over the jets (meaning less than optimal fuelling in the lower rpm range). So it is a question of compromise in that case ;)
