Where the fuel screw is on theses engines, and how it works. Also here is a brief description in text.
When the engine is not under load, the governor (or throttle when under 3600rpm) keeps engine speed constant. When the engine is put under load, the governor compensates to get RPM back up by increasing the throttle. It usually, when under load, will immediately put the throttle to max fueling setting (where the fuel screw is set) until engine speed gets gets back to normal. Screwing out the fuel screw will allow the injection pump to pump out more fuel when under load. Screwing it in will do the exact opposite.

@rccrawlerfan11 Yes, if you set them to high, the egt's will become to high, and overheat, or cause a meltdown(If it can put out enough fuel to do so)

backing off the screw just gives it more fuel if it needs it, in a go kart application under suck load it will allow the engine to take as much fuel as it wants untill it gets up to 3600 rpm

Any idea what the factory setting is? I took mine out thinking it was useless. I havent ran it much without it, but even when i have it doesnt roll coal a lot

My engine is on a generator and has a long tamper proof cylinder on the adjustment screw. How'd you get yours off?

i just wanna ask why my yamma air cooled diesel engine 12hp the governor doesn't have normal speed, when i slow it , it will automatically off half way ... what will i adjust there? thanks for help

Thank you very much for the vid. is there a way to put an external oil filter on these engines ? i know the small air cooled lombardinis can but not sure about the yanmars. an external oil filter would considerably extend the time you have to change the oil

no, but there is an internal oil filter

I have a yanmar l48 with 3/4 keyed shaft in mine but has the generator fuel supply I found the engine adapter for the fuel supply. Is it possible to put these on go kart..btw turboing a single cylinder is pretty pointless cause the intake port is closed when the exhaust is open.. super charger maybe.. the turbo would make some boost make sure to add a blow off valve

Its actually called an excess fuel screw,the idea of this screw and the spring inside it is to help the engine bring itself off excess fuel after starting,it has noting to do with the engines max rpm,the engine along with the governor spring does that job.excess fuel is only used to help start the engine.also when you turbo charge a diesel you need less fuel with increased boost or youll get engine knock.turning the excess fuel screw out will help on starting a worn pump or injector,nothing else

+albertonex19, diesel engines need and will use extra fuel over a n/a engine to make and sustain boost. As well diesel engines cannot knock based on fuel quantity. You can burn them as rich as you want, they will only burn rich, smoke black and create excess heat/egt's.

DieselMudBoggin I'm sorry but I do not know what the factory setting is for these motors. I wouldn't be surprised if they just screwed them in roughly until they didn't smoke under load, being they were built in China. Also, I am pretty sure the max rate that the injection pumps put out is just over what the engine is capable of burning in n/a form, so I am not surprised that it doesn't smoke tons of black under load, which is definitely a good thing, as black smoke means wasted fuel/ excess heat in the cylinder! Would be nice if the pumps put out more though, cause then a turbo could take advantage of it. (Not that the motor would probably last.haha)

I know this is replying to an old comment but yes you are correct you put the engine under max full load you wind the fuel limit screw out till it smokes then back the screw back in until the smoke just clears. The head gaskets dont go on these engines as they are made of a thick copper washer. Timing is done via the copper shims under the injector pump. The killer of these engines is lack of servicing IE not cleaning the mesh oil filter plus poor quality engine oil and fuel.

If you run these on waste oil there’s more energy in the fuel so you get more power, without more fuel to wash the cylinder, so you get more black smoke. My 7.3 idi likes it & it has more power at stock N/A, & not beyond stock. If you are thinking about going it to your $600 motor go ahead, it took many paint fuel hours of searching over a few years to find mine for my sears & she’ll get motor oil for more power, but that’s about it, if I did she’s get a turbo before more fuel pump, you can remove the IP shims for more fuel, but I’d just leave em be unless you absolutely need to.
