You are comparing a Chinese word with an English word. The Chinese word referring to broadsword or sabre is called Dao, there are different shapes but a Dao is a single edge sword with curved blade,. So a sabre would also be called dao in Chinese as well as the wider willow leaf broadsword. The term dao is not limited to a just a wide blade broadsword. Yes I am Chinese. Wikipedia Dao are single-edged Chinese swords, primarily used for slashing and chopping. Unfortunately here in Brazil there are a large number of people who do not know the Beijing Style, thinking it is the Yang Style. And myself, until recently, thought that I knew Yang Style Forms. :-D So I started researching the Traditional Yang Style.
