I’m so sorry Yasmin 😢 I don’t want to be one of those people giving advice online and I know it’s easier said than done but this is something I have to say. You and your grandma need to develop extremely strong and firm boundaries with your mom including no contact and legal eviction. She is a toxic narcissistic abuser and the girls should not have any contact with her period despite how painful that may be for them to lose their mom. You are enabling her behavior. You are not responsible for her. You owe her nothing. I know you love her but you need to take care of yourself and your daughters and sisters and brother FIRST.

Yasmyn, you are literally the gold standard of breaking the cycle. I am a school counselor and I hope and pray that my kiddos in hard situations find the strength and resiliency that you’ve demonstrated throughout all of this. It’s not fair that you were dealt these cards, but you are handling them SO well. ❤

I genuinely say this with love: from a newly graduated nurse, please please wear life jackets on boats and around water. Especially for the littles. Drowning is a huge risk. It's just not worth it when something can happen in a split second.

You and your grandma need to attend AlAnon meetings. You can attend through zoom as well. Venice can attend AlA teen. It’s free. Your grandma could have called the local sheriff and have Ellie removed. I can’t believe how much your mother gets away with. Uncanny. Shame on her. You’re a saint Yasmyn. Breaks my heart and makes me so angry for you to being going through these experiences. Focus on your kids. I would also recommend going to CODA meetings for family members who take care of others to their detriment. Please talk to your therapist about co-dependent behavior. Your babies pick up on your stress as well. I’m so happy you’re in therapy.

I want give some perspective here as someone who has been professionally involved in child safety. EVERY SINGLE TIME your grandmother is allowing your sister to be unsupervised with your mom right now, she is putting her in a dangerous situation. Dangerous to the point where if DCYS knew, your grandmother could easily be founded for child abuse as she is the one legally responsible for protecting your sister. It sounds like your grandmother has to be in agreement with visitation, so she is complicit in allowing this. I say this only because the reality of it cannot be understated. This is no reflection of you. You should not have to be responsible for your mom or grandma’s choices. And you have been. You carry the weight of the world in your family it seems like. You also aren’t responsible for your sister’s care unless she’s in your care. I’m so sorry you’ve been put into this situation time and time again. I’m also not saying that your grandmother or mom are bad people. Addiction is an awful disease that can happen to the best of people. Your grandma likely wants to be able to trust your mom for who she knows your mom is when she’s not using and to make your sister happy. But she simply can’t do that. I would encourage you to report your mother to DCYS for what you saw. Your grandmother would likely get in some trouble too, but perhaps the reality is needed in order for her to understand the seriousness of her actions. Some people need that reality check unfortunately in order to see clarity about safety. All the best to your family.

The situation you’re in is honestly not uncommon for a lot of people with family members that are addicts and while I don’t think running away to hawaii will solve your problems you do at least need to distance yourself from your family. there is no way that these negatives are not also negatively affecting your kids and as heartbreaking as it is with your grandma and siblings you need to start putting your kids first and have a safe situation for you. Your grandma should absolutely never allow them to stay with your mom who she knows is doing drUgS with them there and she doesn’t have custody. and honestly not that Logan is that kind of person but the way your grandma allows your mom around and with you living with her now could jeopardize the custody you have of your children. Please be safe and I hope you find peace and calm within your family soon..

If you want to go to Hawaii that should be a summer vacation trip not pulling them from school. You have kids and their education should be a priority

I’m sorry for everything your family is going through, however, your sisters never should have been able to go to your moms knowing what is going on there. If your grandma has full custody, she needs to make sure they are safe.

I'm sorry but this has been a problem with your mom for YEARS and you and your grandma are allowing it. I get you have familial relations but your mother is doing all of this at the exact same time as the custody issue with your brother why on earth would you think she had changed when that is literally happening RIGHT NOW. As well as if anything illegal is happening in that house while your mother owns it she is liable. You did all this work to get her away from you and to turn your own life into what it is to allow her to do this to your siblings. Your priorities need to change and so do your grandmothers you can't escape everytime something bad happens. Your child's educations are important, your siblings need therapy and so so much help, your mom needs to be away from all of you. This is insanity to me.
