Year Round Homeschool Schedule || How to Plan A Homeschool Year
If you want to start more of a year-round homeschool schedule but aren't sure how, check out how I do it easily! This method gives me a game plan for the entire year but leaves enough room for flexibility when we need it. I hope you find it helpful!
This was part of a homeschool scheduling collaboration hosted by my friend, Wendy at Plan, Prep, Pray:

Love the flexibility of being able to add in breaks when you see the need in the kids for a refresher!

A break is definitely needed, and I like that you have a bigger picture in place.

Great, helpful video! We keep going in reading, some math, and music ( piano) year round here. The load is SO much lighter, and yet I still find that consistency helps them stay on track and not feel overwhelm when it is time to start those new curriculum books in the “new school year”.🤓📚 It gives them confidence!

We also year round homeschool. Days and hours don’t matter. Learning matters for us. We have to submit work, they are understanding of where kids struggle as well!!! We normally take a lot of travel breaks. We sometimes leave somethings out and come back to it. We can log experiences that are learning based for our portfolio.

That's cool that you don't have to log days and hours!

I’d say we’re hybrid year rounders. I definitely like a good chunk of time not “teaching” new material, but I have my daughter do a Summer work book and we do read alouds and Bible time most days of the week. This helps us keep some routine so it’s not as hard to start back up in the fall. I really like easing back in slowly as well. ❤️

We are 1.5 weeks away from finishing our first year of homeschool! We did a year round schedule and I just make sure we take the last full week of every month off. That lands on every important holiday and every birthday in our family. Then the additional weeks we can take off, I don’t schedule. They are backups for sickness or pop up vacations (we don’t vacation much so we don’t plan ahead either). If we have anything left over, then we will end up taking a longer summer but that’s not likely to happen.

I definitely believe in year round schooling; however, my guiding principle for what year round schooling looks like is that ‘we’re always learning’ not necessarily ‘we’re always doing book work.’ I’m on my first year of homeschooling with my oldest, who is 6. Because it’s just kinder, and because I’m not yet educating multiple children, I don’t have a ‘master schedule plan.’ But I do keep certain things in mind. For example, we sit down together Monday-Thursday, right after breakfast/hygiene. Then, we know we’re taking off around garden planting time, Passover, and Feast of Weeks in Spring/early summer, and then again for God’s Autumn appointed times. While we have had to ‘skip school’ here or there due to illness or other happenings, it’s been very rare, and we just keep going the next time we’re able to. It hasn’t set us back whatsoever and has given us a lot of flexibility! 😊 Thanks for sharing what you do!!

This helps so much! I'm using a 6 week "break" for summer to renew us so that we can go about the fall season of learning differently. Had major burn out as a mom. I'm adopting a "homeschool by the 4 seasons" philosophy. It's a process of letting go and studying my children all over again. And myself and our family's culture...letting each season (starting with summer) unfold and see what feels right. So hearing your thought processes is invaluable. Thank you! Sometimes it's the quiet, gentle learning seasons that teach the most because momma isn't as spread thin and the kids feel more "freedom" to connect new information to their existing interests. I'm enjoying your channel content. :) Have a lovely summer!

So cool! I've never heard of that method before but it sounds so nice! I agree, an overloaded schedule tends to actually have the adverse effect!
