Wishwell Farms Produce

2 ай бұрын

Filmed on April 29, 2024. With favorable weather I decide to go ahead and plant our first greenbean planting of 2024. I will share what my favorite varieties are and what population we set our John Deere 7000 at when using the edible bean cups. After planting, I help my younger brother Joel prep the Kinzie 3600 for our 900 acres of soybeans. Joel had great weather for a solid week to finish up our 415 acres of field corn before the end of April.

Thanks Harold...seems like the work never ends this time of year, desperately needing a backpacking/kayak campging trip 😁

Nice setup and farm you have there and I love green beans (of course depending how someone cooks them). Thanks for the video I just just found your channel

I have no idea, but my guess is a soil deficiency or some sort of environmental stress.

All am seeing is how annoying the grass is to me, am guessing no matter how much you disc the soil it will not be enough. All the best to your growing season

We are no-till farmers, so we don't disk or cultivate unless there are rain washouts or ruts that need repaired and smoothed out. The grass and other weeds you see is just the way no-till fields look until the weeds die and the crop comes up...in a few weeks you won't even see a weed out there, only green beans and sweet corn. Thanks

@@wishwellfarms Thanks for the explaining, is the no-till farm is your way of planting is there a benefit from it? Am guessing you spray the grass if it gets out of hand. Wish you show a video on harvesting watermelons, and show us a really mature one hopefully.

@@marzouqhumoud2616 Yes, many benefits to notill. We live in a very hilly area and if we tilled all of our ground, we would loose all of our precious top soil to erosion. Tilling actually increases compaction over time as well, by not tilling the soil structure becomes less compacted with more structure, earthworms and the overall biodiversity of the soil health increases, not to mention less labor, fuel and machinery wear and tear and less passes across the fields...these are just a few of the benefits. Many notill farmers also use cover crops to help improve the soil even more and control weeds better. Yes, the spray will eventually kill all the weeds and the field wil be clean in a few weeks. Yes, we will be planting and harvesting big juicy sweet watermelon!

@@wishwellfarms Thanks for answering my curious questions, i really understand what your doing now especially for your hilly area. Really hoping you make watermelon videos this time around, are you planting alfalfa by any chance ?
@wishwellfarms
@wishwellfarms 2 ай бұрын
@@marzouqhumoud2616 no alfalfa. We used to raise about 140 acres of it for our dairy cows but we sold the dairy in 2001.
