Brings tears to my eyes that Chris Squire wasn't alive to give the Hall a salute.

This is from the day they got inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Getty Lee of Rush replaced Chris Squire who passed away and was one of the greatest bassist ever. YES is one of the greatest progressive rock groups of all time in my opinion and my favorite band. They have a lot of long songs and it takes a true music lover to "get it". Not everyone does. Their music is complex with many changes and in a lot of their songs the words sometimes don't have meaning but they sound good and it's up to the listener to put their own meaning into it like a Picasso painting. You could start with some of their shorter songs until you get used to them but the classics are the longer ones such as "Close to the Edge", "The Gates of Delirium", "Awaken", "Turn of the Century". Shorter ones include "I've Seen All Good People", "Owner of a Lonely Heart", "Yours is No Disgrace", "The Rhythm of Love" and many more. I subscribe to anyone who reacts to them and so will hundreds of others so keep those YES songs coming.

Yes still exists and posted yesterday a video on KZfaq, Cut from the Stars, which is the first single from their album coming out in a few months. In total I think there have been over 30 musicians that have been part of Yes through history. The vocalist here, Jon Anderson, has not been with the band for a long time. Sadly, drummer Alan White passed away recently, as did co-founder and bass player Chris Squire a few years ago. Guitarist Steve Howe joined Yes in 1970. Geddy Lee of Rush plays the bass here. The keyboard player is the one and only Rick Wakeman.

Yes seems to be changing more and more into a project in which the individual artists are not replaceable, but become interchangeable. Exciting. I listen to them since 1978.

Jon Anderson started Yes in 1968 with bassist Chris Squire, and the prog rock band was at the center of his life for the next four decades through numerous permutations.

Progressive rock is rock with changes in it. It is like listening to classical with different movements within the song but with guitars and creating what you like. Some movements are very slow and beautiful and some movements are close to jazz with lots of creation in between. That just about sums it up. This paticular version was when the were inducted into the hall of fame. Chris Squire, the bass player died before this. He was the bass player. Geddy Lee (Rush bass player) took his place.

Yes in my opinion has one of the greatest prog rock song of all time and you definitely have to hear it.Close to the edge.Recommend the studio even though they perform it live.Seen them twice in early 1970’s awesome band.Jon Anderson vocals and Rick Wakeman keyboards are older members and others have passed.Wakeman is one of the best and his synthesizer use is IMO legendary

This was Yes induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. A lot of previous members of the band joined in. It's always best to hear the studio versions of Yes music first. The band started in 1968. This song was from 1971 fyi. Have a listen to Yours is No Disgrace next 🙏

Geddy Lee on the green bass in this video was a founder of Rush. He played for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction concert only this one time. His greatest influence before Rush began was Chris Squire - original bassist from Yes who passed in 2015. Another band greatly influenced by Yes was Dream Theatre. The history of all Yes members past and present would fill books. No mediocre musicians amongst them, as you noticed. Best progressive rock band ever IMO and maybe the best BAND ever. Prog was very popular world wide throughout the 70's but was criticized by lesser musicians and critics for being self indulgent, pompous, and elitist. False accusations IMO. It's still my favourite genre. However, what do I know? I'm just a grumpy old man, like Rick Wakeman - the Grumpy Old Rock Star. Music has sadly regressed and not Progressed since then, as has many other things, including education in the arts in general and music in particular. Hopefully the pendulum will swing back again someday.

You need to listen to yes’s studio music much more clear and you hear the instruments so much better! Or they have some acoustic shows also that are fantastic! This is from their introduction into the hall of fame! The bass player is Geddy Lee from the band Rush. He played for the bass player he revered Chris Squire who had passed away not too long before this!❤

Hi I saw YES live last June and although I think only there was only 1 original member band it obviously wasn’t as good as back in the day , but still a great concert , I also saw the keyboard player at Christmas but as a solo concert playing a piano and telling humours stories of his amazing career , if you can get chance there are plenty of tracks from YES worthy of a listen my person favourite is AWAkEN if you enjoyed Jon Anderson’s vocals there you will love this track or least I do on it lol , great reaction from you both and so funny at the beginning when about answering a question that wasn’t for you 🤣🤣, brilliant 👍

Yea!! So glad you enjoyed the music. Progressive rock generally involves complicated musical techniques and composition with classical elements. The time signature (tempo) and style can change many times in a single song. Most normal rock songs follow a very simple pattern in the way they are arranged. By the way, you two are delightful (and so is Arnold) !! 👋

Great reaction as always. Just for you, a short explanation of Progressive Rock: Progressive rock, or prog rock, is a subgenre of rock music that emphasizes ambitious compositions, experimentation, concept-driven lyrics, and musical virtuosity. The first progressive rock bands formed in the late 1960s, and the prog rock tradition continues to this day. Much like traditional rock n' roll bands, prog rock groups tend to base their instrumentation around guitar, bass, drums, and keyboard, along with a lead vocalist. Many progressive rock acts also incorporate elements of jazz and classical music, as well as lyrics drawn from literature, poetry, and history, earning the genre the monikers "symphonic rock" and "art rock."

In the 1960's, record company executives were cigar-chomping old men that didn't understand kids. Whenever a new act came out that had a few fans, they would promotes them, and hope they could make a bunch of albums. They loved "super-groups" like Yes and Led Zeppelin, that put out album after album. By the 1970's, the bands were demanding better money, and by the 1980's, a new bunch of executives came in that thought they were smarter than everyone else. They just wanted to pigeonhole disposable acts, and everybody sounded the same. People stopped buying music, because there's so little worth paying for. There is still good music being made, but very little gets promoted.

Thanks for another nice brain break. It might help to understand that Progressive Rock is more like classical. Rather than going in predictable patterns, with a bridge breaking the pattern, Progressive establishes themes and motifs and modifies them as it progresses. So, rather than a song having a structure like other songs (like the ultra-popular A-B-A-B-A-B-A-C-A-B-A-B, where A's are verses, B's are choruses, and C is the bridge), a Progressive group might not really have traditional verses, choruses or bridges to speak of, so a song might go: A-B-A1-A2-A3-B-B2-C-C1-C2-C3-C4-B-B-A-B-A3-A2-A2-B2. Make sense now? ;-)

this from the hall of fame induction and not their best performance. They are usually lead by the bass, but sadly Geddy Lee from Rush was standing in for the great Chris Squire who had passed away in 2015, so the performance is weaker than their earlier performances with Squire

The mix on this performance is very mediocre. Roundabout is a guitar-driven song, and here th focus in on Rick Wakeman's keyboards, or, maybe, there was a massive technical glitch for the sounds coming from Howe's side of the stage. Overall, its the worse version of this classic song to be found on KZfaq. "Progressive Rock" has no one generally accepted definition. When Roundbout was released, it was a modest radio hit in a much shortened version to meet the 2.5 minute norm for AM radio play. The album (back then it was casette or vinyl. No CD's, no streaming) version is what was reproduced in this video. Progressive rock songs are generally much longer than the norm and feature many changes in mood, melody, and dynamics, and oftentimes have distinct movements within them like a symponic composition. Back in its heyday part of the idea was to use new sounds. There was an explosion of tech-based innovations in guitar pedals and amps, plus the advent of an entire universe of new keyboard-based sounds as different electonically modified keyboard instruments were produced. Progressive rock was also famed for the brilliant playing of its practitioners, who were recognized as being head-and-shoulders above other rockers who were limited to playing much simpler licks. Steve Howe was named "World's Best Overall Guitarist" five years in row by the readers of "Guitar Player" magazine, after which a trophy was retired in his honor and his name would no longer appear on the ballot.

This is one of the best live performances of this song I’ve heard. The only downside is that the bass is drowned out by the other instruments. It’s much more prominent in the recorded version on their album Fragile from 1971 and it’s still regarded as one of the best baselines ever written even to the present day.
