Glad someone else thinks this. A lot of people interpreted this cutscene as “Yian Garuga is stranger than Deviljho”, when really it’s just Yian Garuga being such a pain in the neck even a Deviljho wants nothing to do with him.

Honey badgers aren't actually like that, tho. Their loose skin does help in defence. but hungry carnivores hunt them them all the time. Most of the videos that show honey badgers to be badass are really them fighting for their lives from curious lion cubs.

Deviljho is not the most persistent predator, more like the opposite really. As its extremely fast metabolism doesn't allow it to waste energy like some of the other monsters and requires the hunt to be as calculated and efficient as possible so long that it will immediately retreat if it deems the hunt unworthy. If this is Rajang instead of Jho then Yian will be dead meat.

@@HuiKarl Well, excluding Savage Deviljho. Savage Deviljho is basically a Deviljho so drunk on dragon power it will chase prey to the ends of the earth at the cost of its life. Of course it doesn't work that way in game, as it obviously retreats, but you'll notice dung pods don't work on it in enraged mode to match with its lore. So Yian Garuga definitely could not repel a Savage Jho.

Thats part of the charm. I thought "Oh, just a variant of Yian Kut-Ku the EASIEST monster in the game". Oh boy was I wrong, Garuga is a freaking menace.

It's basically a wolf compared to Yian Kut-Ku being a wild dog.

Yian garuga is the lone wolf of monster hunter with yian ku ku being the clown of mh

I break that rule constantly, mostly because flinch shooting him into walls, off cliffs, or into other monsters is funny.

How not to piss off a Yian Gatuga if it is always pissed off?

It's more like "it's not worth the energy". Remember that Deviljhos have incredibly fast metabolisms, and they still have to consider whether something is worth the energy to chase after and kill. Yian Garugas don't seem to have a lot of meat on them, so the hunt would result in a net energy loss for the pickle even if it got the kill.

​@@JanusHoW in that case it was not worth the struggle. The deviljho has eyes , it could have easily seen the corpulence of the yian Garuga on sight, no need to fight it to know how skinny it looks. So it was definitely trying to eat it ,but got discouraged.

Garuga should have a little animation swap where it hits the rajang on with it’s talon and inflicts poison. But then rajang turns golden and chucks garuga down on the ground like with the other flying wyverns.

I feel like that's the problem with a lot of the turf wars. Most of them don't really exhibit the monsters' personalities very well since most of it is generic.

I feel like yian garuga should start spazzing out while he is getting his ass kicked to make the other monster panic and he hits rajang by pure accident ending it​@@hippityhoppitygetoffmyprop1000

It’s just a HR Deviljho that got borrowed for this scene. It immediately leaves the map after gameplay resumes to prevent it getting curbstomped (which would break the illusion of it being a match for a MR Yian Garuga).

@@marvinrsbm2246How is it a cope? What I explained is literally what's happening in the scene. If you try to attack the Deviljho, it won't stop to acknowledge you. It makes a beeline for its exit point and leaves the map.

In game monster rank means little to the monsters themselves. It's still a Yian Garuga fending off a Deviljho

A Savage maybe but no Yian could actually win a fight with a normal deviljho. Despite its size its tougher than it looks and incredibly vicious. It's poison is no joke either. There is a reason there has been a special version of Yian Garuga since the beginning, they constantly fight(just not for constant food like Jho) and the older they are the more experience they have fighting a lot of different monsters. Savage Jho would probably kill it though if not force it to fly away in fear. Yian Garuga is one of the more intelligent monsters.

​@@Steelgrey666 Garuga has not been Deviljho tier since Freedom when you only had 20 minutes and were expected to repel it rather than kill it. When it was brought back in 4U, it was like Rathalos tier. Iceborne put him a little higher than that, around Zinogre or Tigrex, but it is not Deviljho tier. Garuga straight up loses in a fight to Rajang, and Rajang = Bazelguese = Deviljho in monster tier.

@@ibs_haver I think anime power scaling doesn't really work with mh monsters who are treated more like animals with actual ecology rather than mindless beasts. Like one comment said above, garuga is like irl honey badger. Sure lion vs honey badger seem like a curbstomp in favor of a lion, but we all know how persistent a badger can be that even predators twice its size will just f*ck off in search of easier prey to kill. So in short, I don't think it's as simple as "power levels" if you catch my drift.

@@idiosyncrasy7703 actually that’s a big misunderstanding of honey badgers.honey badgers won’t intentionally fight lions or any African predator twice there size in reality that’s them getting predated by them or getting preyed upon they fight only when it’s a last resort.if hungry enough lions,leopard,hyena or any animal that’s a predator and larger then a honey badger it’s going to eat the honey badger. Even some KZfaq videos that show honey badger’s fighting are fake and you can see people in the background running trying to get out of shot.

@@namealreadytaken7116 there was no misunderstanding. I never once said badgers actively look for leopards or lions to mess with. All I said is if badgers were to be hunted by lions, they would put up much more of a fight than one would expect of an animal that size. I even called it a "prey". It's just that badgers are so fearless and annoying that most predators twice its size would just fck off in search of easier prey if they had a choice. And if they did, lions even try to hunt and get crushed by elephants when they're starving and desperate so of course they'll go for the fierce little guy with no issue. My main comment is meant to say that even if a creature is relatively small, doesn't mean it automatically just gets folded by something "bigger". Irl isn't like anime. As for the fake videos, I can't verify your claim but there are Nat Geo videos on the badger. I doubt Nat Geo fake their coverage of wild life but feel free to prove me wrong.
