In Medieval England, guilds were powerful alliances, securing business rights and prices of goods. In 1357, the guild of Merchant Adventurers founded their guildhall in York. Members of this guild were risk takers, entering into finance deals with their own money in their quest to bring riches back to York.
The hall consists of a chapel and under croft, which were used for providing spiritual and charitable comfort for those in need. And the Great Hall, a spectacular room used for conducting trade as well as celebrating guild success.
Most of what remains here is original to the 14th century, and it can be found in the heart of York city centre near the Shambles.
