Yes Yes I know, this is not an abandoned place, but it is a bit of an intro to my upcoming "Over the Fence" series that will be coming soon. Focusing on active places that just have big fences or barriers.
The Toronto Transit Commission opened the Line 1 extension into Vaughn in late 2017. This would be the first Subway that ventured out of the City of Toronto. There was plenty of controversies surrounding this project, as many of its size..over budget, late delivery, worker deaths..etc.. But when it opened everyone seemed pretty happy it was built.
A friend of a friend who knew a guy was able to get me in for a bit of a sneak peek of York University Station in the final days before opening. Lots of people working around trying to get the finishing touches done. It was a really cool experience to see this modern transit expansion so I thought I would share it with you.
I thought it was an interesting bit of Toronto History to share while I wait for the snow to come so I can get back to searching for abandoned places.
