I used to work with ladies like this. They would call and say that there was someone across the street aiming a camera at the building (sometimes legacy media types) and they would ask me to go and get the images/recording deleted. I would laugh and ask how do they expect me to get images taken in public deleted? This was right outside the head quarters of our defense force, too (which was across the street to our building). These people have an entitlement issue, and no understanding of law or what it means to be in public. You dealt with this situation incredibly well. Zero aggression. Assertive yes, but no aggression. And as for harassment? Whoa Buddy! The younger chap that came out and knew who you were still tried to argue the toss. The mindset of 'I'm employed here so I have to do X because the boss says' is a very weird mindset, in my opinion.

DJ one point about GDPR - as a you tube publisher, you create footage and have a revenue stream. I'm pretty sure you must be paying tax ;-) If so, it would be more tax efficient to be paying corporate tax - ergo, GDPR probably applies to you ;-)

On the subject of securing property etc, there's a thing called reasonable foreseeability. It is reasonably foreseeable that a child may access the property by that gate, so they have a duty of care.

I actually used to work security at a similar sort of establishment... what these companies often forget or choose to ignore is that you're legally allowed to film anything you can see from a public space. Whenever I was asked to "deal" with someone filming from the public footpath or highway outside, I would introduce myself to the person filming, let them know that I wasn't going to stop them but I would politely ask them to confirm that it wasn't for nefarious reasons (pre break in recon or terrorism etc). 99% of the people I ever spoke to were happy with that, confirmed that it was just for a video blogging or KZfaq and that was the end of it. I never saw footage of me turn up on KZfaq... why? Because I didn't cause a scene. DJ... keep doing what you do. You're amongst the very few that actually do this correctly, without causing situations to escalate and people potentially losing their temper and their jobs. I don't think you were aggressive in any way and, ultimately, if they had left you alone then there wouldn't have been all that BS and they wouldn't have made themselves look foolish. *additional note. I love that the woman was upset about you filming her, demanding that you didn't, but it was her that put herself in the frame. It's like photo-bombing at a wedding and then getting upset with the photographer for you being in the image. Silly mare. 😂

The woman claims she owns the right to her own image. Nope. Her image, once recorded on someone's camera becomes the copyright of the person with the camera. That's how it works. She only has a right to her image if she makes a contract with the photographer. No contract, no rights.

Context is everything. Is DJ being aggressive? In isolation I think you could say yes. But when you consider the context of having three people surrounding him, talking at him with ignorance of the law, then actually it's reversed. In fact, I think it goes beyond aggression into oppression; they have invaded your space / time / to prevent you carrying out lawful activities. Completely understand staff coming out to the defence of other staff, but you can't allow it to immediately bias your response. Any front facing staff should treat any member of the public like they're the CEO. Be polite, be courteous, ask to see ID only if they're trying to enter, ask someone else if you're unsure.
