How to cast AirPlay to Quest RIGHT NOW

Yes, you can use Air Play on quest TODAY with the help of an app we’ve covered here on the channel in the past. Skybox VR Player added a Casting option that utilizes Apple’s Air Play connectivity to your iOS device. I’m sharing this one because it is behind a paid app and that usually flys under the radar with most Quest users. I started digging into this after seeing them add phone mirroring to Apple Vision Pro in VisionOS 2... I hope this one helps!

Shots for every time I say "Experimental Feature" 🍹 LOL. I know this is probably old news for my fellow enthusiasts out there but the VisionOS 2.0 update adding mirroring reminded me of this. I hope Meta can work something out with Apple to bring this to the Horizon OS.

They added playing from a usb stick like 2 days before i checked to see if I could watch some movies i had downloaded. Skybox devs are great

I'm not big on using my phone for video or pictures, so I'd like to use this time for some 'constructive' critique. In you vids I always notice you really move your head around a lot when you capture with the quest. Much of the time I can't get a good fix on what your showing us because your looking around. Maybe, if you choose to, keep this in mind when recording. Love your content, your the man .

Excellent! It’s not polished a enough for you to buy Skybox just for this but Skybox has a lot to offer for the 10 bucks either way

I love this app for movies I've been using this app for years if you get the desktop app you can add movies that you own into it then stream the movies from your PC to the headset wirelessly with no lag

Yes! I love that feature. You can set up shared folders too on your PC and it works , the desktop app just makes it easier.

If you want to keep consistent have you thought about filming a few in the one day or whenever you have time to have some in the can? I feel like it’s easier to be ahead than it is to catch up.

Great video i hope other app let you share your phone screen inside the app, it would be nice. I just wanted to say that the IMMERSED app on ios let you cast the phone screen as a monitor inside the app😉

Great video! Quick question for the community regarding HDD space. Should I purchase the 500+GB version of the Quest 3 or the baseline model 100+GB?

Thanks for watching! Man I could spend an entire video on this. But the games are getting quite large (asgards wrath 2 is at like 30 GB , Assassins Creed is 20) so it really depends on how many big titles you want to store on your headset. Other games are around 4gb on average. So you can fit a lot of small games. I currently have a 128gb and I do have to delete games to keep space available I play a lot of PCVR especially when quest games are cross buy on quest and PC, I never keep those on my headset. This keeps me afloat If you just want to be able to install what you want and not worry about deleting things to make room go with the 512GB, you’ll save yourself the trouble of managing. Hey great vid! I don't think you need the Skybox VR Player to cast at all. I just tested it, and as long as you have an Apple TV 3 you can Airplay/Cast directly to it from the Oculus app.

Hey thanks for watching! You’re correct casting to a TV doesn’t need a go between. This is the other way around… this is casting content directly from your phone to your quest. No other devices in between. I may tweak the title of the video.

Yeah native support would be nice. I was discussing this in another thread… the drm issue will require Apple to allow this to work.

Yo construct, have you checked out a headstrap called Destek Q4 it recently launched with a battery version and people say that is the best that they ever tried. I am going to buy a quest 3 in a few months and I am indecisive between the Kiwi and the Destek. Love ur vids!

So I’m assuming if you were to launch a game on your phone that it wouldn’t mirror it in the quest?

It wouldn’t be worth it… you see that 1+sec delay? Most things would be unplayable. Also it didn’t seem to just mirror the phone entirely. I had to turn on screen mirror and then start some content.

Dude its so weird seeing the warping in passthrough again, when i finally got the v66 update its NIGHT & DAY different, almost ZERO warp. (Hopefully you have it now since this video) 🤘

This is actually v66 . You can still trigger the warping. I think the light from the phone and sun in the room got it triggering a bit. I agree though passthrough is SO much better now.

@@TheConstruct_VRyeah my faceid ir sensor always trigger warping, also aluminum food cases make a strange slow autofixing warp while eating and it didn't before v66. i still have less warp than you btw

@@golem_videomaking yep I’m 99% sure it was me waving the phone in front of it the entire time. The I don’t notice much warping in other scenarios.

@@TheConstruct_VR also warping is caused by ai trying to filling the gap between cameras images, so it changes how well it works based on too much things. still impressive for 500$ headset

I have not found any streaming app that can do movies I bought on AppleTV. The DRM on those movies requires HDCP on the display unit as well

Yeah it’s rough… can you pull up those movies in a web browser? If you use Apple TV on Virtual Desktop for example and turn off hardware acceleration on the browser.. Apple TV works. Or maybe try Fluid or The Spatial app, in that order.. Fluid is free. I

No you can’t. To see purchased movies you need to use the Apple TV app on Mac or PC or smart tv. Can you airplay Apple TV content to skybox?

@@astirling nope. I tried anything coming out of the Apple TV app gets the video blacked out. Even on this
